So, we are to desire that we may prophesy above other gifts. I believe that in this verse, the word "prophesy" simply means to tell others about our God, that they will one day be judged, and that God gave us a way out. So, tell others the Gospel. Evangelise. When telling the Gospel, we are telling of future events that God has told us will happen.

The reason I believe that prophesying is to evangelise is because 1 John 4:1-4, it tells us what the opposite of a true prophet is. A false prophet draws us away from our God by telling us of a false god, such as Islam. These false prophets are evangelists for false religions. 1 John 4:1-4 says, "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming, and now it is already in the world."

So, if a false prophet is someone who evangelises and tells people of a false god, then a true prophet is someone who tells of the true God. God desires that none should perish, and He has told us to tell as many people as possible.
So, desire that you tell as many people as possible about our God and the sacrifice He made for us on the cross. Go and tell the Gospel to as many people as possible. Evangelise.

In a sense, yes. Paul defines the role of the apostles and prophets. Paul seldom fore-telling. Prophesying in NT era refers more to ministering.

What came to mind the moment I read your post was this instruction given by our Savior.

"And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us.

And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us." (Luke 9:49-50)

I am a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - we prefer to be called Latter-day Saints as opposed to "Mormons".

Even though we disagree on whether I am a Christian and whether what my Church teaches is the truth - we should all follow the example and instruction of our Savior.

Just because somebody "followeth not us" - that does not mean that they don't follow Him.

Well ... difficult decision for sure .... I couldn't go and would just say ... although I feel it's wonderful that you are accepting Jesus into your heart ... there are teachings of the Mormon church that I find are not in line with the Word of God (be prepared to talk about those providing biblical verses) ... so for that reason I can not in good conscience attend your baptism. I don't want at all for this to be a wedge between us as I love you dearly ... but on the other hand I can only go by my own convictions about the matter and hope you can understand and respect my reasons as well.

Baptism don't save a person regardless where it is done .... Jesus does ... and He looks at the heart.

Mormons do not believe in the Trinity. They affirm the unity of three personages, but the unity is a relational unity in purpose and mind, not a unity of essence. The three separate beings of the Godhead are three distinct Gods (this is not so according to scripture).

Actually, inflation is higher now than when Biden first took office. And Biden was President for 16 months ("some months" indeed) before inflation hit 9%. The current inflation rate is around 3.5%, 2.5x higher than when Biden took office.

Just for clarity, one can hold Universalist beliefs and still use a "Christian" faith label here, it can only be discussed in the Controversial Christian Theology forum, however. One cannot be "unitarian" or "Oneness" and use a Christian label as those fall outside of Nicene Christianity. But that does not mean they are not "Christians", they just are not Nicene or Athanasian in their belief system, so they fall outside of the faith - we have to draw a line somewhere and the Creeds seem like a good place.

By Covenant (and Law), circumcision defines a Jew. By the same token, baptism may define a Christian who is a follower of Christ. You may skip it only when Jesus deems it fit. It is so because the whole Judgment of Covenant is a subjective judgment by a fair and just God. The Judgment of Law on the other hand, is an objective judgment. To simply put, you need to be baptized as required by the Covenant. However, if Jesus sees that you have a good reason to skip it, then you are fine.

So preaching "not to be baptized" is a dangerous act where your conscience (or the lack thereof) allows you to risk others' life or death.

That being said. A prophet is for God to put words in his mouth. By the same token, Peter may speak correctly when filled with the Spirit. Plus there's not a defined timing when Peter was awaken. He as a legit apostle, is subject to God instead of Paul.

No one has overthrown any governments. Isreal pulled out of Gaza in 2005 and with that uprooted all Isrealis within Gaza, that is displaced even their own people to allow the Palestinians to create their own State.

But Hamas immediate moved in and took over and never held democractic elections to this day. So if anyone has meddled into the affairs of the Palestinians in Gaza its Hamas.

Yes Europeans should not have got involved. But I think they were trying to do the right thing in a complex situation that had been goind on for years. Remembering that they were trying to clean up the mess created by other nations like the Ottermans and various Islamist nations like Iran.

Remembering that any peace deal was always broken by the the radical Islamist who represented the Palestinians.

But a similar peace deal involving other Arab nations was already put on the table through the Abraham Accord for which some Arab nations like Jordan and Saudi Arabia were warming to and could have led to an accord.

But it seems the Biden administration has not taken up the Accord and are choosing to paterner up with Iran.

Yes, I've seen Man portrayed as a triad of circles within circles, with the spirit of Man at his center. And so, whatever happens in his spirit flows outward to affect his emotions, his mind, and his physical life.

Should we then find it surprising that how we relate to God has a ripple affect on all that we do? Our adultery with God becomes adultery in the world, whether in marriage itself or in putting things ahead of others.
