Sword-wielding Utah man arrested for attacking churchgoers at worship service

Utah police have arrested a man who entered a Catholic church during Sunday morning worship and reportedly attacked parishioners at random by punching them with his fists and striking them with a wooden sword.

Chandler Grillone, 31, was arrested on Sunday morning after he started attacking people at the Cathedral of the Madeline in Salt Lake City, reportedly doing so at random.

Grillone is facing two felony charges of aggravated assault, a felony charge of property damage below $5,000, a misdemeanor assault charge, and charges of disorderly conduct and interfering with a police officer, according to ABC affiliate KTVX.

Continued below.
This Grillone dude might want to take a look at Matthew 26, and repent to God, as well as serve a jail sentence of at least a year.

Matthew 26:52 (ESV): "Then Jesus said to him, 'Put your sword back into its place. For all who take the sword will perish by the sword.'"

Do pets go to heaven?

You have to be born of the Spirit to inherit eternal life. Pets do not have the Paraclete in them. They do not bear the image of God. They are not resurrected on the last day, as per Jesus.

However, if you miss your pets and feel sad after the resurrection, God will do something to ensure you are not sad for eternity. God may even give you your pets back. Matthew 7:

There will be animals on the new earth (heaven), Isaiah 65:

There will be new pets.

See also No worries in the new heavens and earth.
It is true nowhere does it state animals go to heaven ... but .... as you stated there will be animals on the new earth ... God is big on restoration ... He could most certainly could restore our past pets on the new earth ... we really don't know .... but what we do know it's all going to be very good.

I would also like to add ... the bible talks about there will be children on the new earth as well. Most certainly there will be children in the first resurrection ... but is that the end of all creation for eternity? I don't believe so.

My belief is that God will restore the new earth back to it's original very good creation (before the fall) that was made by Him except there will not be any sin (so no death of any kind). I believe He will also restore reproductive capabilities to His newly created earth as well.

There is 1,000 years spent in heaven (after the 1st resurrection) and during that time and until after He executes final judgement on the wicked (2nd resurrection - 2nd death) re-creation/pro-creation is put on a pause (while in heaven) ... until He creates the new heavens and the new earth.

I base my conclusion on the fact that ... before the fall there was absolutely nothing wrong with God's creation .... it was perfect ... including the capability of pro-creation of everything ... so I find no reason why He would not restore that back to the new earth, including the ability to reproduce. It was His intention that was to happen in the first place.

The restoration of all things happens at the new creation of the heavens and the earth.

Acts 3:21
21Heaven must take Him in until the time comes for the restoration of all things, which God announced long ago through His holy prophets.

Basically .... it started in perfect Eden and it "ends "in that perfect Eden restored ... not really the end ... but the beginning of eternity that will be perfect for eternity. AMAZING!

Regardless ... it's all going to be very good and I really look forward to it. AMEN!!

Just some thoughts. ;o)

The Gift of Christ's Righteousness

You have to be able to see a demonstration, you cant.
Our disagreement is in regard to God's eternal decree and time.

You see his eternal decree as being executed when it is decreed.

The NT presents it being executed in time, and not actually effected until it is executed in time, it nevertheless being sovereignly certain.

favorite musical?!?

My absolute favorite is Jekyll and Hyde. It's really in depth about the struggle within human nature- where one person (Dr. Jekyll) wants to do good and another person (Mr. Hyde) wants to do evil.

It's got to be hard to have one actor to play both Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (especially in the number about "Confrontation", where he goes back and forth as both characters).

I also like Les Miserable and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Who would have ever thought that a famous Bible story would be made into a Broadway musical?

a New Nature

Yes, I'm glad you brought this up because it's really the meat of the matter for me. When Christians quote Paul as saying the Law did not make Israel "righteous," the inference is not always recognized by its context. The reference is to *righteousness that saves,* and not simply to *righteousness* in the general sense.
You're speaking in God's terms vs. man's terms.
What good is a righteousness in man's terms that does not save in God's terms?
So, to restate, the Law does not produce a righteousness that provides Salvation, even though obedience to the Law is, in fact, righteousness.
That is not in agreement with the NT, where righteousness is only by faith (Gal 3:11-12), apart from law keeping (Ro 3:28).
The law was never given to make righteous, it was given to reveal sin (Ro 3:20).
God does not have two methods of righteousness for fallen mankind, one by law keeping if he could achieve it, and the other by faith alone.
It would be absurd, after reading the giving of the Law in the Pentateauch, and after reading psalms like Psalm 119, to conclude that the Law provided no righteousness at all!
Nevertheless, the law was given to reveal sin, not to make righteous, for righteousess by law keeping would contradict the principles of Ro 3:20, Gal 3:11-12 of righteousness by faith alone.

Likewise, human absurdity is not the measure of divine truth, for God's thoughts are not our thoughts, and our ways are not his ways (Isa 55:8).

Why the weekly Sabbath (Saturday) is the Lord's Day, in the Bible

Where in the Catechism does it teach that the wages of sin are eternal life? That is not Catholic doctrine. How could I address something that is not Catholic?

Indulgences are not bought. The giving of alms used to be an indulged work, but if you understood indulgences, you would know that unless attachment to sin is removed, the indulgence is of no effect.

An indulgence is granted to a soul based on the merits of the Church to remove the temporal punishment due to sin. It does not remove the eternal punishment due to mortal sin and therefore cannot be bought by a sinner. We to to Christ for cleansing of mortal sin which requires repentance not indulgence

Purgatory is clearly spoken of in Paul’s letter to the Corinthians where he says all men’s works will be tried by fire (aka purged hence purgatory)
The Bible also clearly says that God will reward men according to their works
Quote the scripture were Paul says purgatory is real. I know of nothing in Paul's writings that says such a thing. Even if Paul had said something like that the link is tenuous at best.

Odd how your claims about indulgences differ with the RCC's during the reformation. Not only that since we are all sinners how does anyone get an indulgence?

The Roman pontiff, whose humblest servants created at pleasure the body of God himself, sat as God in the temple of God, and claimed a spiritual treasure, from which he drew at will indulgences for the pardon of souls.
Vol 1 D'aubigne History of the sixteenth century reformation.

Yes, God will reward everyone according to their works. That has to do with the lake of fire and the second death..

Revelation 20: 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Faster than light approaches and impact?

Considering that by chance perhaps with a swing around different galaxies, two free planets are moving towards each other at 30% and 80% light speed, the total is more than 100% and matter cannot naturally exceed light speed. What would happen around impact? In time and energy, would one planet turn into light?
It takes galaxies, with stars and planets in them, to be 46.5 billion light years away, in order to appear to be moving out away from us as the center at 1x the speed of light, so I doubt that there is any situation in any individual galaxy where individual stars, or planets, or star systems, could each individually be moving toward each other at speeds relatively close to the speed of light, or even near the speed of light, etc. Or with individual galaxies either, I don't think individual galaxies could be on a collision course toward each other at speeds close to the speed of light. They actually move quite slowly for both theirs, and the universes immense size, etc. Not a whole lot in the universe on the macro scales moves, or is in motion, at speeds close to the speed of light, etc, or even half of the speed of light, etc.

But I could be wrong about that or those though maybe? Like I said, I'll wait for others to offer more, etc.

God Bless.

I (an atheist) dreamt about becoming a Christian and I can’t stop thinking about it

I think that this is the wrong place to post this, but I don’t know who to talk to about this.
Welcome to Christian Forums.

It looks like the moderator has kept you here. We have compassionate and wise and knowledgeable people in this advice section, where we keep checking for new people to help. So, here could be a good place for you to be.

But also you could check some other sections and ask questions and share what has been helping you. There might be helpful people who do not come here to our advice place, and you might find them sharing in our other sections.

My family are atheists and that’s how I’ve been brought up, but recently I’ve felt this pull towards Christianity that I can’t explain, it’s like I can feel a presence in beauty, nature and music. Then last night I had this really vivid dream about praying to a priest and I woke up with the prayer on my mind.
Well . . . we pray to our High Priest who is Jesus. Jesus is personally involved in every thing of us and our lives; He cares about everything, and desires to bless us and guide us in everything.

Jesus has been here on earth, partly so now He can feel for us, out of His own experience of going through things of life that we go through; and now Jesus is praying for us >

"For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin." (Hebrews 4:15)

Jesus "makes intercession for us." (in Romans 8:34)

I still feel like I cannot truly believe even though I would like to, and I just feel confused.
It is not only about believing ideas. But we trusted in Jesus who died for us and rose on the third day so now He ministers God's own good to us . . . as His own family . . . with us sharing with one another as His family.

So, this is very personal with God and each other, for loving - - - and how our character develops with Jesus.
I am not allowed to go to church currently, but I will be able to once I go to university in September, but I now feel really lost and I would really appreciate some advice.
prayer for you

God bless you!

The High Priest and The Branch

With Access To Abide

Zechariah 3:1 Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the Lord,
and Satan standing at his right hand to oppose him.
7 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge,
then thou shalt also judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts,
and I will give thee places to walk among those standing by.
8 Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee:
for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the Branch.
9 For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes:
behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the Lord of hosts,
and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.
10 On that day, saith the Lord of hosts, shall ye call every man his neighbor under the vine and under the fig tree.

“Given places to walk”= Access
“Among those who stand by”= Abide

Ephesians 3:
10
to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church
to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places,

11 according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord,
12 in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him.

The Two Families the Lord has chosen

Jeremiah 33:
23
Moreover the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying,
24 Have you not considered what these people have spoken, saying,
The two families which the Lord has chosen, He has also cast them off?
Thus they have despised My people, as if they should no more be a nation before them.

25 Thus says the Lord: If My covenant is not with day and night, and if I have not appointed
the ordinances of heaven and earth,

26 then I will cast away the descendants of Jacob and David My servant,
so that I will not take any of his descendants to be rulers over the descendants of
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will cause their captives to return, and will have mercy on them.

The Great Cloud of Witnesses

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,
let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us,
and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.

The Lord Our Righteousness

Jeremiah 23:
5
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch,
and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.

6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby
he shall be called, The Lord Our Righteousness.

One Flock, One Shepherd

Ezekiel 34:
23
I will establish one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them—My servant David.
He shall feed them and be their shepherd.
24 And I, the Lord, will be their God, and My servant David a prince among them;

I, the Lord, have spoken.

The Counsel of the Lord for the Latter Days

Jeremiah 23:
18
For who hath stood in the counsel of the Lord, and hath perceived and heard his word?
who hath marked his word, and heard it?

19 Behold, a whirlwind of the Lord is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind:
it shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked.

20 The anger of the Lord shall not return, until he have executed, and till he have performed
the thoughts of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it perfectly.

A Branch of Righteousness For David

Jeremiah 33:

14 ‘Behold, the days are coming,’ says the Lord, ‘that I will perform that good thing which

I have promised to the house of Israel and to the house of Judah:

15 ‘In those days and at that time I will cause to grow up to David A Branch of righteousness;

He shall execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.

16 In those days Judah will be saved, And Jerusalem will dwell safely.

And this is the name by which she will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.’

17 “For thus says the Lord: ‘David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel;

18 nor shall the priests, the Levites, lack a man to offer burnt offerings before Me,

to kindle grain offerings, and to sacrifice continually.’

19 And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying,

20 “Thus says the Lord: ‘If you can break My covenant with the day and My covenant with the night,

so that there will not be day and night in their season,

21 then My covenant may also be broken with David My servant, so that he shall not have a son

to reign on his throne, and with the Levites, the priests, My ministers.

22 As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea measured,

so will I multiply the descendants of David My servant and the Levites who minister to Me.’ ”

Out of Zion Shall Go Forth The Law

Ezekiel 37:
24
“David My servant shall be king over them, and they shall all have one shepherd;
they shall also walk in My judgments and observe My statutes, and do them.

25
Then they shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob My servant,
where your fathers dwelt; and they shall dwell there, they, their children,
and their children’s children, forever; and My servant David shall be their prince forever.

26 Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them, and it shall be an everlasting covenant
with them; I will establish them and multiply them, and I will set My sanctuary in their midst forevermore
.
27
My tabernacle also shall be with them; indeed I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
28 The nations also will know that I, the Lord, sanctify Israel, when My sanctuary is in their midst forevermore.”

The Surety of God’s Promise and Oath

Hebrews 6:
17
Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise
the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath,
18 that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have
strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.
19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which
enters the Presence behind the veil,
20 where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest
forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

The Order of Melchizedek

Hebrews 7:
11
Therefore, if perfection were through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law),
what further need was there that another priest should rise according to the order of Melchizedek,
and not be called according to the order of Aaron?

12
For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law.
13 For He of whom these things are spoken belongs to another tribe,
from which no man has officiated at the altar.

14 For it is evident that our Lord arose from Judah, of which tribe
Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.

15 And it is yet far more evident if, in the likeness of Melchizedek,
there arises another priest

16 who has come, not according to the law of a fleshly commandment,
but according to the power of an endless life.

26
For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled,
separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens

A Minister of the True Sanctuary

Hebrews 8:
1
Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest,
who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,

2 A Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man.

6 Now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant,
which was established on better promises.

Hebrews 9:
11
But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect
tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation.

12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place
once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.

The High Priest of Our Profession

Hebrews 3:
1
Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle
and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus,
2 who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house.

A Merciful and Faithful High Priest

Hebrews 2:
14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood,
he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death
he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their
lifetime subject to bondage.
16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels;
but he took on him the seed of Abraham.
17 Wherefore in all things it behooved him to be made like unto his brethren,
that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God,
to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succor them that are tempted.

A Great, Heavenly High Priest

Hebrews 4:
14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens,
Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses,
but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain
mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

A Compassionate High Priest

Hebrews 5:
1 For every high priest taken from among men is appointed for men in things pertaining to God,
that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins.
2 He can have compassion on those who are ignorant and going astray,
since he himself is also subject to weakness.
3 Because of this he is required as for the people, so also for himself, in offerings for sins.
4 And no man takes this honor to himself, but he who is called by God, just as Aaron.
5 So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him:
“You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.”
6 As He also says in another place: “You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek”;

Cleansing the Holy Places of Heaven

Hebrews 9:
24 For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true,
but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us;
25 not that He should offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place
every year with blood of another—
26 He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now,
once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.
27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,
28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him
He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.

Those granted access have boldness to enter the Holiest Place

Hebrews 10:
19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus,
20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh,
21 and having a High Priest over the house of God,
22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled
from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

The Throne and the Priesthood Combined Under the One Covenant of the Sure Mercies of David.

"Singleness is a gift" is actually a lie?

This is how things get misinterpreted when we remove the context, culture, history, flow, and the intention of the message. The idea that singleness is a gift comes from 1 Corinthians 7.

There are advantages and disadvantages on both sides. I see singleness as a gift in terms of how I'm able pay my undivided devotion to the Lord.

I shall be married. But do I love God more than marriage? Yes. My hope and desire for marriage is that by marriage I could serve God much better than I do being single.

There are no restrictions. God is Family in Himself. I believe He is all about marriages and children. That's where He is leading us in the Bible too. The Marriage Supper.

I sincerely pray that you all get to have someone and experience God's love. Be wise because the days are evil. It is not good to be alone. It is even worse to get into an unhealthy relationship. God is able to save us from both.

Windows of Heaven and the Firmament

No problem. So you think the windows in the sky are figurative?
Everything in the Bible is literal and figurative. My mom got an A in Chemistry but I am not good enough to figure out the science on that. There is also a verse about windows that has to do with God's blessings.

Malachi 3:10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.
