Zechariah 3:1 Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the Lord,
and Satan standing at his right hand to oppose him.
7 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge,
then thou shalt also judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts,
and I will give thee places to walk among those standing by.
8 Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee:
for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the Branch.
9 For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes:
behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the Lord of hosts,
and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.
10 On that day, saith the Lord of hosts, shall ye call every man his neighbor under the vine and under the fig tree.
“Given places to walk”= Access
“Among those who stand by”= Abide
Ephesians 3:
10 to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church
to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places,
11 according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord,
12 in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him.
The Two Families the Lord has chosen
Jeremiah 33:
23 Moreover the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying,
24 Have you not considered what these people have spoken, saying,
The two families which the Lord has chosen, He has also cast them off?
Thus they have despised My people, as if they should no more be a nation before them.
25 Thus says the Lord: If My covenant is not with day and night, and if I have not appointed
the ordinances of heaven and earth,
26 then I will cast away the descendants of Jacob and David My servant,
so that I will not take any of his descendants to be rulers over the descendants of
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will cause their captives to return, and will have mercy on them.
The Great Cloud of Witnesses
Hebrews 12:1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,
let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us,
and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.
The Lord Our Righteousness
Jeremiah 23:
5 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch,
and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.
6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby
he shall be called, The Lord Our Righteousness.
One Flock, One Shepherd
Ezekiel 34:
23 I will establish one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them—My servant David.
He shall feed them and be their shepherd.
24 And I, the Lord, will be their God, and My servant David a prince among them;
I, the Lord, have spoken.
The Counsel of the Lord for the Latter Days
Jeremiah 23:
18 For who hath stood in the counsel of the Lord, and hath perceived and heard his word?
who hath marked his word, and heard it?
19 Behold, a whirlwind of the Lord is gone forth in fury, even a grievous whirlwind:
it shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked.
20 The anger of the Lord shall not return, until he have executed, and till he have performed
the thoughts of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it perfectly.
A Branch of Righteousness For David
Jeremiah 33:
14 ‘Behold, the days are coming,’ says the Lord, ‘that I will perform that good thing which
I have promised to the house of Israel and to the house of Judah:
15 ‘In those days and at that time I will cause to grow up to David A Branch of righteousness;
He shall execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.
16 In those days Judah will be saved, And Jerusalem will dwell safely.
And this is the name by which she will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.’
17 “For thus says the Lord: ‘David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel;
18 nor shall the priests, the Levites, lack a man to offer burnt offerings before Me,
to kindle grain offerings, and to sacrifice continually.’
19 And the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying,
20 “Thus says the Lord: ‘If you can break My covenant with the day and My covenant with the night,
so that there will not be day and night in their season,
21 then My covenant may also be broken with David My servant, so that he shall not have a son
to reign on his throne, and with the Levites, the priests, My ministers.
22 As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea measured,
so will I multiply the descendants of David My servant and the Levites who minister to Me.’ ”
Out of Zion Shall Go Forth The Law
Ezekiel 37:
24 “David My servant shall be king over them, and they shall all have one shepherd;
they shall also walk in My judgments and observe My statutes, and do them.
25 Then they shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob My servant,
where your fathers dwelt; and they shall dwell there, they, their children,
and their children’s children, forever; and My servant David shall be their prince forever.
26 Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them, and it shall be an everlasting covenant
with them; I will establish them and multiply them, and I will set My sanctuary in their midst forevermore.
27 My tabernacle also shall be with them; indeed I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
28 The nations also will know that I, the Lord, sanctify Israel, when My sanctuary is in their midst forevermore.”
The Surety of God’s Promise and Oath
Hebrews 6:
17 Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise
the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath,
18 that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have
strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.
19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which
enters the Presence behind the veil,
20 where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest
forever according to the order of Melchizedek.
The Order of Melchizedek
Hebrews 7:
11 Therefore, if perfection were through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law),
what further need was there that another priest should rise according to the order of Melchizedek,
and not be called according to the order of Aaron?
12 For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law.
13 For He of whom these things are spoken belongs to another tribe,
from which no man has officiated at the altar.
14 For it is evident that our Lord arose from Judah, of which tribe
Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.
15 And it is yet far more evident if, in the likeness of Melchizedek,
there arises another priest
16 who has come, not according to the law of a fleshly commandment,
but according to the power of an endless life.
26 For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled,
separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens
A Minister of the True Sanctuary
Hebrews 8:
1 Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest,
who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,
2 A Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man.
6 Now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant,
which was established on better promises.
Hebrews 9:
11 But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect
tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation.
12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place
once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.
The High Priest of Our Profession
Hebrews 3:
1 Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle
and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus,
2 who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house.
A Merciful and Faithful High Priest
Hebrews 2:
14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood,
he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death
he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their
lifetime subject to bondage.
16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels;
but he took on him the seed of Abraham.
17 Wherefore in all things it behooved him to be made like unto his brethren,
that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God,
to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succor them that are tempted.
A Great, Heavenly High Priest
Hebrews 4:
14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens,
Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses,
but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain
mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
A Compassionate High Priest
Hebrews 5:
1 For every high priest taken from among men is appointed for men in things pertaining to God,
that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins.
2 He can have compassion on those who are ignorant and going astray,
since he himself is also subject to weakness.
3 Because of this he is required as for the people, so also for himself, in offerings for sins.
4 And no man takes this honor to himself, but he who is called by God, just as Aaron.
5 So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him:
“You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.”
6 As He also says in another place: “You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek”;
Cleansing the Holy Places of Heaven
Hebrews 9:
24 For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true,
but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us;
25 not that He should offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place
every year with blood of another—
26 He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now,
once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.
27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,
28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him
He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
Those granted access have boldness to enter the Holiest Place
Hebrews 10:
19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus,
20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh,
21 and having a High Priest over the house of God,
22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled
from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
