Acts 2:36 “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”
37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?
38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the]remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
We see repentance mentioned more than 20 times in the Gospels, and here in the book of Acts, it continues

Acts 3:18 But those things which God foretold by the mouth of all His prophets, that the Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled. 19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, 20 and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before,
Then again here:

Acts 5:30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree. 31 Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. 32 And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.”
Then here in Romans

Romans 2:Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

Let’s talk about repentance - what does repentance look like in real life?
Maybe share some of your story of repentance.
How often do you find the need to repent?
If you have to repent from a specific sin more than once, is it really repentance?

This could be a very interesting discussion.

Repentance is for believers to restore their fellowship or relationship with God. From some sin or sins that has severed their fellowship with God.

The repentance in Acts 2:38 is addressing believers who as Peter states whom you crucified,

Why are these people believers, because they did not ask what must we do to be saved. They ask Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?

That is, what shall we do to restore our fellowship and become part of the Church Jesus will build.
God required of these believers who participated in the crucifixion. God required them to repent and be baptized, if the believers did this. They would receive the gift of The Holy Spirit, which Jesus promised to the believers in the Church and would be added to the Church.

The first act of changing one's mind (repentance) is from unbelief to belief, this is what Acts 2:38 is speaking of. After this, we receive His Holy Spirit who reforms our ways from evil to good , transforming us into the image of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. As we walk with Him daily evil acts begin to melt away, it is as if our conscience is disgusted by such things. It is certainly a process as we often " quench" His Spirit in us however, if we humble ourselves the sanctification process will prevail.
Blessings

Repentance is simply recognition that I've displeased the Lord. I've gotten off track, if only a little. I've offended God, and I've offended others. I need to get back on track with the Lord, keeping my heart right with Him and my attitude right towards others.

We repent all our lives, and every day, because we are always subject to the influence of sin in our poisoned spirits. Having inherited a sin nature from Adam and Eve we have to always fight the tendency to let our love grow cold, to react in a bad way.

And so, it is a noble thing to fight this fight every day. It is noble to fight the smallest tendencies to be rude towards others, to be rebellious towards God. We need to keep our eyes open to what the Lord is telling us, is showing us, with respect to the righteousness of Christ, which has been freely given to us by our repentance from going our own way and living by our own ideas.

Here is the Lord's use of the word, after the resurrection,
and in the church age:
Revelation 2:

5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent
and do the first works
, or else I will come to you quickly
and remove your lamp stand from its place—unless you repent.

16 Repent, or else I will come to you quickly and will fight
against them with the sword of My mouth.

20 Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow
that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and
seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols.
21 And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent.
22 Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her
into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds.

Revelation 3:
2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die,
for I have not found your works perfect before God.
3 Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent.
Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief,
and you will not know what hour I will come upon you.

19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten.
Therefore be zealous and repent.

Repentance among the saints in discipleship and fellowship.
Luke 17:

3 Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you,
rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him.
4 And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day
returns to you, saying, ‘I repent,’ you shall forgive him.

Matthew 18:
21 Then Peter came to Him and said,
Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me,
and I forgive him? Up to seven times?
22 Jesus said to him, I do not say to you, up to seven times,
but up to seventy times seven.

Brotherly reconciliation must precede drawing near
Matthew 5:

22 But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother
without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment.
And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council.
But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire.
23 Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there
remember that your brother has something against you
,
24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way.

First be reconciled to your brother,
and then come and offer your gift.

Man, I have a Bible study on this as well, though ranging from Acts 2:37-43.

From: On Acts 2

DateApril 23, 2024
VerseActs 2:37-43: "Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls. And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles."
ExplanationIn Acts 2:37-43, we find Peter's response to the crowd that had been convicted by his preaching of the Gospel during Pentecost. The crowd, which included both Jews and proselytes, heard Peter's message about Jesus, His resurrection, and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. This message led them to feel remorseful for their sins (cut to the heart) and ask, "What shall we do?"

Peter's answer was clear: Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. This call to repentance is a crucial aspect of salvation, as it involves recognizing one's sinful nature and turning away from it towards God (Acts 3:19). Baptism is the outward expression of this inner transformation, symbolizing death to sin and new life in Christ.

This passage underscores the importance of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ and obedience to His command to be baptized.
Societal RelevanceIn modern society, this passage is still relevant for several reasons:

1. Preaching: We are called to proclaim the Gospel message of salvation to others (Matthew 28:19-20). Peter's boldness and conviction inspire us to share the Good News with those around us, just as he did during Pentecost.

2. Our actions in daily life: The way we live our lives is a powerful witness to the salvation we have received through faith in Jesus (Matthew 5:16). As believers, we are encouraged to devote ourselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, as well as the breaking of bread and prayers (Acts 2:42). By living a godly life, we can show the love and grace of God to those around us.

3. Showing the way of Jesus: The world needs to see the transformative power of salvation in our lives (Matthew 5:14-16). As we follow Jesus and His teachings, we can make a difference in the lives of those around us by demonstrating compassion, love, forgiveness, and obedience to God.

Overall, Acts 2:37-43 is a powerful reminder of the importance of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ and the call to obedience, as well as the significance of sharing the Gospel message with others. It challenges us to live out our faith in a way that inspires and encourages those around us, ultimately bringing them closer to the love and grace of God.

The Greek words METANOEO or METANOIA , I believe that these Greek words are pointed to Israel ONLY !!

Just as WATER BAPTISM as ONLY given to Israel in John 1:31 ??

Just as the Greek word OIKONOMIA // DISPENSATION is for GENTILES ONLY !!

Hi Dan!

FWIW your posts would have a greater impact if you would just speak in plain English and complete sentences and thoughts.

Personally I don’t follow the dispensation theology you refer to.

Thanks for replying.

It is written to the Jew first and then the Gentiles.

Romans 10 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.

I don’t follow your style of exegesis. If it was accurate, then the Baptism of the Holy Spirit would only be for the Jews and 2/3 of the New Testament is invalid for gentiles.

Including Paul’s ministry.

Your thoughts on Acts 9:15
My thoughts always begin with reading the verse in context.

Acts 9:11 So the Lord said to him, “Arise and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for one called Saulof Tarsus, for behold, he is praying.12 And in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and putting his hand on him, so that he might receive his sight.”

13 Then Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much harm he has done to Your saints in Jerusalem. 14 And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on Your name.”

15 But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. 16 For I will show him how many things he must suffer for Myname’s sake.”

My thoughts after reading the verse in context is that it is a literal discourse on part of Paul’s conversion and healing from blindness.

That is my thought.

And why was Pauls preaching to Gentiles and SON of Israel last ??

Uh.... because Acts 9: 5-6 is part of the account given in Acts 9

my thoughts - you are seeing something that is not there.

Paul was an Apostle - he was also a Prophet - he also was a teacher and preacher.

Repent of what?

A.) Unbelief

AA.) To Repent from Unbelief, is to "OBEY The Gospel"... = To BELIEVE IT.
it is as reading the rest of the sentence -

38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins;
It's really easy when you read the whole senetence.

it is as reading the rest of the sentence -

It's really easy when you read the whole senetence.

If you are water baptized but you are never born again, then you have an issue that the Catholic Church can't solve for you, after you die.

Thousands of people went to Hell today, and they were water baptized..... and some more than once.

The Dying Thief on the Cross, was never water baptized and He's going to be interesting to talk to, once the born again meet him in Heaven.

Baptism Water gets you WET.
Nothing more.
So, Reader, if you want to go to heaven, Give God your Faith in Christ and not your water baptism.

See, SIN, is in your heart, and water can't reach that, as it only gets your body wet.

So, think on that a little bit more....@hislegacy

Also, if you read Acts Chapter 2, you'll note that PETER was not water baptized, nor were any in the upper room., on that Day.

YET< they received the SIGN for the JEWS. (Tongues).

"signs are for the jews" 1 Corinthians 1:22
"tongues are for a sign". - 1 Cor 14:22

And everyone there, was a JEW.

And here is one more for you...

When you read "ACTS"... remember...., that this is the ACTS of the APOSTLES< .....and not the acts of the Christian.

A Lot of people who are in the Charismatic-Pentecostal groups, dont realize that.... and some never will.

No - it is the ACTS of the Holy Spirit -

And yes, there are many in the Charismatic-Pentecostal that just don't agree with your take on it. I happen to be one.

Salvation for the Jew is EXACTLY the same as Salvation for the Gentile. Once saved they are the SAME - there is no difference between Jew and Gentile

Romans 10 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.

Rom 3:9 What then? Are we better than they? Not at all. For we have previously charged both Jews and Greeks that they are all under sin..... vs 27 27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law of faith. 28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law. 29 Or is He the God of the Jews only? Is He not also the God of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also, 30 since there is one God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith.

So, think on that a little bit more....@Aviel

Of course the Thief on the cross was not baptized. It is impossible for the thief to be baptized! Why? Baptism was instituted by Jesus after his resurrection but before his ascension. The first Christian baptism occurred on the Day of Pentecost some 53 days AFTER the thief died. Commenting the thief was not baptized is like saying Erza or Nehemiah, or King David in the OT wasn't baptized. Just nonsense. The thief was saved exactly like all other OT saints.....by faith (Hebrews 11).
