To Lion Heart:

Much of the Oral Teachings can be found in the writings of the Early Church Fathers. There is no single book like a Bible with chapters and verses which contains "Sacred Tradition." Many of these collections can be purchased for your private library and personal study. Nothing is secret or hidden, the information is available to all. A LOT of it is available online now.

The Church Magisterium is the authority which keeps and interprets Scripture and Sacred Tradition. And the Magisterium is guided by the Holy Spirit.

If I understand it correctly (and Wolseley will have to verify this), the Roman Curia is a council at the Vatican comprised of a board-type membership, and it is responsible for most of the work of the Magisterium.

(note to self: ask Wolseley to post something in the permanent thread of the Catholic Board on this stuff!)

Peace be with you,

There was one church after Jesus died, The New Testament church, then approx. 300 years after Jesus returned to Heaven the church split into the people who stayed and people who went astray and thus those who left became known as catholic, and those who stayed still followed as Jesus had taught.
Denied by the records of Rome itself.

Hmmmm. Finally I can see why Rome says that there was only one church. Most interesting - and on reflection, amusing. The early churches were not divided, they were in many ways a commonwealth.

The views that they were a single entity and organisationally distinct, with a number of mother churches having filial churches, are both correct.
