I play afew "Shoot 'Em Up" games that are obviously rated M, and was wondering if it is a sin?

I am not allowed to play Grand Theft Auto, and i understand my mom's reasoning. It has some utter garbage in it. But, I do not want to play it for the garbage (Strip Clubs, Hookers, all that perverted stuff), I genuinely want to play it to drive around and yes, cause a little mayhem. So just in theory, is it a sin to play GTA? I don't play it since I am not allowed but in College I want to play it.
Is it a sin to want to play it to have fun and commit crime? I would obviously never even THINK about shooting people or robbing stores in real life, but it is all fake so it isn't a sin right? I wish there was a rated T version without the cussing and sexual garbage, it is just such a waste.

Nope, not a sin. Could be garbage, but it's not a sin to play 'm' games.

I was wondering this same thing as I would like to get a PS4 and play some games that are M rated. Yes, its just a game but by playing it we would be delighting in evil acts. I think to answer our question would be to ask this question: What would Jesus do?

Would Jesus delight in playing Grand Theft Auto or any other game like this? I would say no.

"For you are not a God who delights in wickedness." Psalm 5:4

So I just answered this question for myself. Im not taking any chances with it. I might play a game like Batman: Arkam Knight which is Rated M because you are a superhero fighting evil and the descriptors state its just violent and language. I would try it but if I sense that its too vulgar, then I would turn it off and take it back. I think the key is if you are going to venture into mature themed entertainment, use discretion when selecting it and be ready to turn it off if it gets to evil.

WWJD is a very good way to put an answer as plain as possible - and we won't always like the answer! :234:

I used to work for EB Games (when it was still called that...) and have seen a lot of "M" rated games. Most were garbage, as you have said. I personally have stayed away from those types of games because, for me, I feel as though I get somewhat desensitized by it. I don't want that. I also watch what games I play. I'm a big Final Fantasy fan, though not all of them were well put together. XIII was the worst, in my opinion. Type 0 may be one of those (I can't say for sure because I'm still working on that one), and XIV has a good storyline.

Also keep in mind for things I have mentioned above that I also keep a clear mind as to what "story" is being told. Reading between the lines, so to speak. The same thing can be said for movies.

Hope this helps even a little!

It is in no way a sin unless you act on it. I have been playing m games and watching R movies since I was 3. As for what would Jesus do? In all honesty he probably wouldn't care about you driving around and causing mayhem. "Many think I have come to spread peace across the Earth. They do not know that I have come to spread conflict, fire, sword, war." Jesus Christ in the Gospel of Thomas 14

God require much of our time even all of our time in doing things that would Glorify him good things things righteous honest true good profitable helpful loving and not slothful.
I am a babe in Christ still learning and learning to walk and to totally submit myself to him. This understanding of this topic would take spiritual discernment not the carnal so I would advise us who claim to be Christians or children of God, what would Christ do?would he sit down on the couch for hrs in front of a flat screen tv playing whatsoever? I will answer my question as well, NO! Nor would his disciples nor should us.

I really don't think playing any of these violent video games are sinful. Same goes for reading books that contain violence, watching movies that contain violence, etc. It really depends on the person. You shouldn't spend all of your time playing these games, and if you feel like going out and shooting a bunch of people or robbing a bank, then you should definitely stop playing. As for WWJD, If I was playing one of these games, I think he'd want to play right with me. Why? Because, video games can be a fun bonding experience. I've met so many people through online/multiplayer video games, one of which I've known for 2 years. Now if you're playing these, and it's singleplayer, it's not good, but it's not bad either. There's nothing good coming out of playing them singleplayer, but if you were playing multiplayer, you could possibly make friends and work together with others.

Me: *Sent to hell after judgement*
Someone else: Why are you here?
Me: I clicked on a mouse to "kill" a piece of code on a video game.
Someone else: Oh...same.
Me: What game did you play?
Someone else: Pokemon. Apparently it was bad because it contained witchcraft in it. My Abra used the move teleport.

@Adamlash314,
Buddy Ik it's hard giving up what may entertain you that which is fun and you love to do but if God disapproves then you have to make a wise choice. God doesn't approve of fornication uncleanness adultery murder covetousness lies stealing sorcery etc. That may be against the truth or exalts itself against God.

if I went in a store as a Christian and bought a porn DVD went home and watched it but never actually preform that which I jus saw on a woman or man did I still sin before God jus by buying and be holding that what I jus watched with my eyes?

Because pornography has lust as it's core component, it is only about that and it is directly created to spark off that desire in us in a way that damages us and those around us.

So Adam your saying the variety of games you play that entice you doesn't also have a key component of the flesh which entice you? Just an Example: I Ronny love to play fighting games,fruit-murder/violence
I Samantha liked shooting games, fruit-murder
I Tim hate sport games but love racing games, fruit-pleasure
Just 3 short examples on how a man is entice by his own lust whether he knows it or not. Now out of all those illustrations you may still say it's jus fun no harm in it but show me the righteousness in it show me the praise in it the virtue the holiness etc. These my friend are the fruits of the holy spirit in which gaming has no lot nor part in the matter.
