Proverbs 13:

Godliness.

When we bow our wills to the will of the living God, it is simultaneously demonstrating a "fear of the Lord" in the ultimate sense. It is IMPOSSIBLE to be Godly without the "fear of the Lord", for that is the very cornerstone/foundation of a righteous relationship with the living God. It indicates "wisdom" and understanding of His holiness.

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding." ~Pr 9:10

As it is written, God will guide and protect even the steps and the paths of the Godly.

How precious is THAT??!!!

"There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches" (Pro 13:7 KJV).

This verse may well be one of the most ignored passages in God's Word chiefly because folks do not want to believe that the tithe is a New Testament truth as well as Old Testament. Abraham tithed before the law ever existed and God blessed him for it.

At any rate, being a miser is not something that God will bless, for when that man dies, all those riches that he has squirreled away for a rainy day will not accompany him into the next life (assuming he is saved), but those that faithfully support their local church through their giving, their time, their talents and in whatever other ways God has led them to give, Jesus said that those good works will follow.

"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also" (Mat 6:19-21 KJV).

Father, teach us that the money we have was given to us by You in the first place and we show our trust in You to meet our needs and give us our daily bread by returning a portion back to Your work. Help us find a local Bible-believing church worthy of our support, and then show us how we may serve you most faithfully. Thank You for blessing us. We have nothing that has not first been given to us by You. Amen!

i agree about tithing and giving. The bottom line is that we can never "out-give" God.

This verse comes to mind:

"Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver." ~2 Cor 9:7

And this verse still applies to today:

"Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be roomenough to receive it." ~Mal 3:10

Proverbs 13:

A Life-Giving Fountain.

The words from a wise-hearted person(one who heeds the living God) can be tremendous blessings and can save lives, so to speak. It is "wise" to give heed to them.

Proverbs 13:

Gracious Wisdom.

"A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver." ~Pr 25:11

Grace is lovely and even in the words spoken is its gracious wisdom evident. Grace is founded on wisdom, and has a "slowness of tongue" so to speak. It is evidence of God's precious Holy Spirit, present in someone who has bowed their own will and thus their "inclinations" to the living God THROUGH the power of His precious Holy Spirit.

How gracious and wise is even the speech of someone who is living under God's grace and who is thus filled to overflowing with His grace and thus His wisdom.

Precious.

Proverbs 13:

Our Legacy.

We not only are blessed by our God when we love Him and heed His Words, but our children will be blessed after us, for God grants the Godly "wisdom" and in that wisdom the Godly leave a legacy and blessings for their children and their children's children after them.

Thank God for such wisdom and foresight, amen?

Proverbs 13:

Wisdom.
AKA: Fountain of Life.

We are told in this chapter that the obedience of the wise, is akin to a "fountain of life". The righteous are kept from the snares of death when they heed God through His Word.

And THAT is very wise.

Amen?

Pride.

"Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom." ~Pr 13:10

God abhors pride, which is hand-in-hand with "self-will". Pride and self-will are the "twins" that will surely kill us, for both lead to destruction.

Pride and self-will are the "roots" of ALL sin. It was the case for Lucifer aka Satan, the "originator" of sin. His sin was pride and self-will.

HE wanted to be the living God. He was "jealous" of the living God and resented Him, amongst other things.

How blind-is-a-bat is he? He HAD to know what was coming to him, right?

Perhaps he is full of "denial", just like those who refuse to bow to the living God, and refuse to see their own destruction coming.

Blind-as-bats.

Tragic.

Proverbs 13:

The Teaching of the Wise.

God uses His own to speak words of wisdom, for He has planted those very words, that wisdom, deep into their hearts, minds, and souls. This wisdom, through their wise words, eventually bear fruit, and bless those around them...those that have "ears to hear".

May God open more ears and hearts to HEAR His words of wisdom through His Word, and through those that HE has planted His wisdom into.

Proverbs 13:

Shining.

it is written throughout God's Word that the righteous "shine", for it is God's "light" that is shining from them. The "Light of the world" resides inside them, therefore there is no way that they can NOT shine.

We are "shining in darkness" and showing those in darkness the "way" to our God, Who LOVES them. It is not "us" shining, it is GOD "shining" THROUGH "us".

All we need do is LET Him shine THROUGH us.

HE does the rest.

We can REJOICE in His Light shining through us. We are His vessels to do just that. THAT is why we are STILL here, in this dark world.

Shine on, brothers and sisters, and pray that many more will come to our Father and thus more and more will be "shining for Him".

Proverbs 13:

This bears repeating. This is deeep. The "Light" of the righteous "rejoices"! That's like "celebrating", isn't it? And "joy overflowing"?

Reminds me of this:

"the joy of the Lord is your strength." ~Nehemiah 8:10

and this:

"The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing." ~Zephaniah 3:17

Amen.
