"There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches" (Pro 13:7 KJV).
This verse may well be one of the most ignored passages in God's Word chiefly because folks do not want to believe that the tithe is a New Testament truth as well as Old Testament. Abraham tithed before the law ever existed and God blessed him for it.
At any rate, being a miser is not something that God will bless, for when that man dies, all those riches that he has squirreled away for a rainy day will not accompany him into the next life (assuming he is saved), but those that faithfully support their local church through their giving, their time, their talents and in whatever other ways God has led them to give, Jesus said that those good works will follow.
"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also" (Mat 6:19-21 KJV).
Father, teach us that the money we have was given to us by You in the first place and we show our trust in You to meet our needs and give us our daily bread by returning a portion back to Your work. Help us find a local Bible-believing church worthy of our support, and then show us how we may serve you most faithfully. Thank You for blessing us. We have nothing that has not first been given to us by You. Amen!
