Have you ever had to rely on the bus to get anywhere? With all the transfers, it takes forever.
My boss lived in Orange County, and we worked in the San Fernando Valley. He tried to use public transport. It was not possible to do and put in 8 hours at work. He had to leave by 3:00 in the afternoon to make the last connection before they shut down.

Fine then you should talk to those states that are run by Democrats.

And those that live in the cities have greater access to public transportation than those in suburbs. And supposedly they are the ones who are more poor.

Yup, can take a bit to ride a bus. I've ridden trains in some of the biggest cities in Europe. They can take bit to get anywhere too. There isn't any amazing system in big cities than gets you to work in short order no matter where you live.
How long ago? I was in Prague, Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest (with some rural excursions) this last summer. Public transport was fast, clean, cheap and never more than a few steps away. It was amazing, far better than anything I've ridden in any major US city in the past few years.

What gets you to work quickly is living close to work.
Yes, that's a swell idea--especially if you've got a lower paying service job in a posh neighborhood
But it's STILL on the individual to go find a job and go to work. One isn't going to handed to you. There are still quite a few professions that need help, that do not require a college education that still pays fairly well.
Yeah? So what? What has that got to do with the topic of this discussion?

To put that in a bit of perspective, he'd had to make another $128/day/store to cover the difference.

"We have a very finite set of economic conditions that need to be met for us to make money. And certainly, this bill has cast doubt [as] to whether we can continue in this state," Alex Johnson, owner of five Cinnabon and five Auntie Anne’s locations in San Francisco, said on "Varney & Co." Tuesday.

One of those conditions is apparently the ability to pay workers not enough to live on in a VHCOL area.

Perhaps mediocre mall-based chain restaurants isn't the best business opportunity in such a market. Perhaps he should consider investing in something with higher prices that can justify the higher labor costs.

Sinking money into something mediocre and unoriginal? I imagine you’re correct.

He is. He’s going to pull himself to another state
From what I’ve heard of Vegas, he’s headed in the right direction.

You have a problem with Cinnabon?
You look down on people who operate franchises?
It’s not good enough?
Thank you for letting us know what you really think

What I have a problem with is the implied notion that we ought to be prioritizing the ability of some well-heeled bro to open up more chain restaurants over the ability of the workers to make enough to pay rent. Why should labor policy favor that guy over his employees?

If he were providing some needed public service like daycares or nursing homes, then I could see there being a public interest in cutting him a break. But Cinnabons? No. We have enough Cinnabons. Society will chug along just fine without him opening more.

And how many other franchises will go out of business? Society can survive without a lot of businesses but not everyone can survive without a job.
But you have it all figured out and eventually all businesses will run on solar power and pay $30 an hour

He didn't say he was going to go out of business. He said he was going to invest his surplus capital elsewhere.

Also, we're talking about a guy running Cinnabons in San Francisco - the city with some of the highest real estate prices in the country. From googling around a little bit, I'm finding restaurant space leases in SF anywhere from $55-112/sq ft/yr. Here in Baltimore, they're more in the range of $18-$30/sq ft/yr. Not every business works in every location. If his sort of business can't afford to pay its workers, then maybe that area can't support his sort of business.

I'm perfectly happy to stay in my lane..Unless it's throwing out pedantic advice that everyone else gives too.
It’s not a good look for people who claim to be the ones who really care about others to be looking down on people

Maybe so but I was sensing a bit of contempt in your post

Contempt is a bit strong of a word. I'd say it's more like ambivalence. I don't have any problem with Cinnabon or even necessarily with their rich bro owners. But I'm not going to place a high priority on them when it comes to the policies I choose to favor.
