A Psychologist Unpacks The ‘Replaying Conversations’ Compulsion

1000003901.jpg

TOPIC:
"Replaying conversations involves dissecting every word and scrutinizing every movement of a past interaction in a cycle of analysis and reflection.

Human beings are wired to seek resolution and understanding, especially in social interactions. When a conversation leaves us feeling unsettled or unresolved, we instinctively replay it—meticulously examining every word, tone and gesture—in a desperate attempt to discover hidden meanings that may offer the closure we seek.

However, this pursuit of closure can become a double-edged sword, as our relentless search for answers may lead us down paths of speculation and conjecture, disconnected from the reality of the situation. Overanalyzing and overthinking only amplifies our uncertainty and distress, trapping us in a cycle of rumination. What begins as a search for clarity can quickly spiral into a cyclical thought-trap."

DISCUSSION:
I was curious if anyone else here struggles with replaying conversations in their mind, either of past conversations, or future conversations like I do. How do you overcome it? Does it tend to lead you into sin?

For me, it does tend to lead me towards arrogance, power and control. It usually happens when I'm alone, especially when driving a car. My way of overcoming this, is to play music while driving, which *always* diverts my attention off of that, and redirects it somewhere more positive. Specifically, any type of instrumental music can solve the problem... Whether it be jam music, electronic trance, or classical/baroque. But the key to it all, is coming to a level of self-awareness first, in that you recognize yourself falling down the rabbit hole.

Does anyone else experience this? Just curious.

A sound mind is a fleshy carnal mind.

A sound mind is misunderstood. People think that having mental illness means that you don't have sound judgment. However unbelievers dont have mental illness, so is their judgment sound?

The apostle Paul was actually of his mind at times and he had that thorn in the flesh. That's not exactly what people normally consider to be sound judgment.

We walk by faith not by sight. This means that it doesn't matter what our mind thinks or sees. My own mind is my enemy. I have mental struggles. I ignore my mind. Romans 8 said that nothing can separate us from God's love. Not even my broken mind. Not any illness. Nothing can rob us of God's love.

Daniel 7 Pre-advent, Investigated out of books, Judgment affirmed by Adventist

Daniel 7 tells us some key facts for those paying attention to the details in the chapter.

1. The judgment before the 2nd coming. (Pre-Advent) When Judgment ends we have 2nd coming/appearing according to the chapter
2. The Judgment scope that includes the saints ... and judgment passed in favor of the saints. vs 22.
3. The (little horn) persecution of the saints does not stop until after the judgment completes. So it is the key to ending that problem of the little horn.
4. The 1260 years of dark ages
5. The judgment event is connected to the end point for the dark ages persecution of the saints.

Solution: the "solution" in Daniel 7 is "the judgment" and that same "solution" in Daniel 8 is the cleansing of the sanctuary.

Romans 2:4-16 gives us the process for how names are accepted vs rejected in that judgment and tells us that the event is still future to Paul's day in vs 16 of Rom 2.

2 Cor 5:10 tells us that it is for all the saints - all -- in the future - must stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

Will God judge true believers?

Yes. Paul addresses the believers in Romans 14:

10 Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God;
The Greek word is G968 bema for judgment seat. HELPS Word-studies:

968 bḗma (from bainō, "to step, ascend") – properly, a platform to which someone walked up to receive judgment; (figuratively) the administration of justice – literally, given from "a tribunal-chair" (throne) where rewards and punishments are meted out.
12 So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.
The Bema is different from the Great White Throne, Revelation 20:

11Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. ...
15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
At the Great White Throne's judgment, true believers will not be thrown into the lake of fire.

At the Bema, Christ will judge our good deeds and bad deeds and reward us accordingly. Paul was looking forward to it, 2 Corinthians 5:

8 We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 9 So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.
Should we be scared of this judgment?

No, not if we have been born of the Paraclete and growing in faith. On balance, I expect to receive some rewards after my resurrection :)

Will all of our sins be publicly revealed during the judgment?

I doubt it. We should always live our lives with a clear conscience before God because God knows everything. We should fear God more than we fear public opinion.

I am not truly saved and I'm scared to tell my parents

So, I have been 'saved' three times, but I realized that I didn't mean it any of those times.

The first time I was 'saved,' I was little, so of course, I didn't mean it.
The second time, I didn't mean it either.
The third time, I just said it because I was scared of going to hell. If I tell my parents or any of my family members, they'll get upset with me. I know they will.

(By the way, sorry if this is a bit confusing. I have OCD, so...)

The controversial Harrison Butker

None of the disciples asked Jesus, "Where are you going?"

After the last supper, John 13:

36 Simon Peter asked him, "Lord, where are you going?" Jesus replied, "Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later."
Jesus did not give Peter a clear and direct answer.

At the end of Chapter 14, Jesus decided a change in scenery:

31 “Come now; let us leave."
Jesus continued to tell his disciples more in Chapter 15 and Chapter 16:

1 “All this I have told you so that you will not fall away. 2 They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God. 3 They will do such things because they have not known the Father or me. 4 I have told you this, so that when their time comes you will remember that I warned you about them. I did not tell you this from the beginning because I was with you, 5 but now I am going to him who sent me. None of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ 6 Rather, you are filled with grief because I have said these things.
In this scene, unlike earlier, the disciples were totally absorbed by what Jesus had been saying. They no longer asked him, "Where are you going?" There is no contradiction between John 13:36 and 16:5.

29 Then Jesus’ disciples said, “Now you are speaking clearly and without figures of speech. 30 Now we can see that you know all things and that you do not even need to have anyone ask you questions. This makes us believe that you came from God.”
Sometimes, when we ask God a question, he does not immediately give us a clear answer. However, God will answer clearly at the right time even when we have stopped asking the question.

Many Americans want to learn how to prevent college students from joining in the ongoing anti-Israel protests. The new leader of Promise Keepers believes they can again reach young men in great numbers by returning the ministry to its roots.

Recently, the country has seen thousands of college students march in pro-Palestinian protests, many of which have turned into vehicles for hate and anti-Semitism.

15 Verses on being Perfect with God

15 Verses on being perfect. I write these because I've heard too many say "Nobody is perfect" and such like; often as an excuse used to excuse some sin. But these verses alone make clear the Holy Scriptures, the very Word of God does call us to be perfect.

"Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." - Matthew 5:48.
Jesus own words here use the Greek teleios, meaning brought to its end, finished, wanting nothing necessary to completeness, that which is perfect, consummate human integrity and virtue, of full age, mature*

"And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect." - Genesis 17:1. Hebrew tamim, means complete, whole, entire, wholesome, unimpaired, innocent, having integrity morally.

"That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." - 2 Timothy 3:17. Greek artios, fitted, complete, perfect, having special aptitude for specific uses.

" Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen." - Hebrews 13:21. Greek katartizo, to render sound, complete, mend, repair, ethically to strengthen, perfect, complete, make one what he ought to be

There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil. - Job 1:1. Hebrews, tam, perfect, complete, morally innocent, having integrity, morally and ethically pure.

I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart. - Psalm 101:2. Hebrew, tamim & tom, meaning integrity, completeness, fullness, innocence.

Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.. - Philippians 3:15 Greek teleios*

The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master. - Luke 6:40. Greek katartizo

Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you. - 2 Corinthians 13:11. Greek, katartizo

Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. - Colossians 1:28. Greek, teleios

Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.. - Colossians 4:12. Greek, teleios

But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing - James 1:4. Greek teleios

Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ - Ephesians 4:13. Greek, Greek, teleios

For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. - James 3:2 Greek, teleios

I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. - John 17:23. Greek Teleioo, to make perfect, complete, accomplish, bring to an end, render a thing full.

  • note: Teleios is also used in 1 Corinthains 13:10, " But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away" and James 1:17, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning"
  • In these verses it definitely implies the perfect perfection as it is speaking of Jesus and the gifts from the Father.

Pentecost 2024: Waves of Pentecost Unity Across the Nation

During a late-night devotional session in the winter of 2021, Pastor Mark Francey of Oceans Church in Orange County, California, stumbled upon a passage that would ignite a movement across California and beyond.

Man who attacked Pelosi's husband sentenced to 30 years

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The man convicted of attempting to kidnap then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and attacking her husband with a hammer was sentenced Friday to 30 years in prison.

Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley handed down the sentence for David DePape, 44, whom jurors found guilty last November of attempted kidnapping of a federal official and assault on the immediate family member of a federal official. Prosecutors had asked for a 40-year prison term.

DePape was given 20 years for one count and 30 years for another count. The sentences will run concurrently. He was also given credit for the 18 months that he’s been in custody.

DePape stood silently as Judge Corley handed the sentence and looked down at times. His public defense attorneys had asked the judge to sentence him to 14 years, pointing out that he was going through a difficult time in his life and had no prior criminal history.

Conservative:
averse to change or innovation and holding traditional values.

Liberal:
willing to respect or accept behavior or opinions different from one's own; open to new ideas.

In all honesty, these are the littoral definitions of "conservative" and "Liberal," according to Oxford.

What philosophy can you in good conscience get behind?

Based on the definition of these concepts alone, I must say that the party that respects people's opinions even when they are different from our own and is open to new ideas, is the party of liberty (freedom).
The party that does not value innovation nor are they open to new ideas sounds like oppression to me.

Do you want to work for oppression or freedom?

What are the benefits of not changing with changing times, and what are the benefits of changing as society changes?
What are the pitfalls of changing with changing times or making no changes or innovations?

Healing Prayer for my Mother

Hi everyone, I would greatly appreciate your prayers- about 1 week ago my mother fell and broke her wrist and is now in a cast and sling, just yesterday they had to do surgery and installed screws and a metal plate to get it to heal, I was just visiting my mother this morning and she was in severe pain despite powerful pain medication. Both of my parents are elderly and are not saved and their hearts are not open to the gospel, there have been many times when I asked if I could pray for them and they said no. They are involved in a unitarian church, they believe all religions are equally valid, it is a demonic thing. Please pray for my mother's healing and for the pain to go and also for both of my parent's salvation and that their hearts would be open to the gospel! My parent's names are Denny and Lila. Thank you!

Trump’s legal troubles are putting state parties in a financial crisis; Some state operations are broke, and the RNC is tightfisted

Trump’s legal troubles are drowning state Republicans in a financial flood of their own making

When infighting in the Colorado Republican Party recently spilled out into the press, the conflict wasn’t over ideologies or values. It was an argument about money; or rather, the lack of it. Like other state Republican parties nationwide, Colorado’s GOP is feeling the pinch of the national party’s Trump-centric fundraising plan. Now those internal party cracks are becoming embarrassing public fractures.

A growing number of state Republican operations are either broke or perilously close to it. Last year, the Minnesota Republican Party reported having only $53 in the bank and over $330,000 in debt. In January, Michigan’s Republicans faced bankruptcy amid a brutal MAGA leadership fight. So much for being the party of fiscal responsibility.

Republican Party chairs know from Democrats’ past examples that starved state operations lead to electoral blowouts at the ballot box. But the Republican National Committee isn’t coming to the rescue

Republicans can thank Donald Trump for their current financial problems. Trump’s deal with the RNC requires the party to run its donations first through his Save America PAC

Vatican overturns own decision on seminary dean

In a significant reversal, the Vatican approved the appointment of a new dean at a seminary in Northern Italy almost one year after first blocking the appointment over the candidate’s published views on sexual morality.

The Philosophical-Theological College in Bressanone (PTH Brixen) announced “with great joy” that Father Martin M. Lintner, OSM, has now been confirmed as dean and will take office on Sept. 1.

The appointment of Lintner, who teaches moral and spiritual theology at the seminary, faced opposition from the Vatican’s Dicastery for Culture and Education in mid-2023 over his published works on Catholic sexual morality, particularly his views on same-sex blessings.

In an article published in 2020 by New Ways Ministry titled “Theologian Suggests Papal Civil Union Support May Lead to Church Blessings,” Lintner is quoted as saying: “A homosexual relationship does not lose its dignity due to the lack of fertility.”

Was it customary for the Ninevites to fast?

Job showed how ancient Orientals mourned, 1:

18 While he was still speaking, yet another messenger came and said, “Your sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house, 19 when suddenly a mighty wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on them and they are dead, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!”
20 At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship
Job 2:

7 So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord and afflicted Job with painful sores from the soles of his feet to the crown of his head. 8Then Job took a piece of broken pottery and scraped himself with it as he sat among the ashes.
Job 33:

19 “Or someone may be chastened on a bed of pain
with constant distress in their bones,
20 so that their body finds food repulsive
and their soul loathes the choicest meal.
When one was in mourning, it was natural to avoid food, i.e., fasting. This could be a sign of repentance. Then God came to the rescue.

Psalm 107:

17 Some became fools through their rebellious ways
and suffered affliction because of their iniquities.
18 They loathed all food
and drew near the gates of death.
19 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
and he saved them from their distress.
20 He sent out his word and healed them;
he rescued them from the grave.
Nineveh was part of the ancient Oriental culture. It was natural/spontaneous for them to follow the custom of fasting and sackcloth.

Jonah 3:

5 The Ninevites believed God. A fast was proclaimed, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth.
Ellicott agreed with this sentiment:

Proclaimed a fast.—Apparently on a spontaneous resolution of the people themselves. (See Note to Jonah 3:6.) The fast would no doubt be for one day, according to the Jewish and the general Oriental custom.

Would the ancient Hebrew word/concept of adultery have included homosexual sex?

Homosexual sex was mentioned in Leviticus 18:

22 Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable.
Separately, we have Exodus 20:

14 You shall not commit adultery.
Strong's Hebrew 5003: To commit adultery, to apostatize

Brown-Driver-Briggs:

usually of man, always with wife of another
Pulpit Commentary:

Verse 14. - Thou shalt not commit adultery. Our second duty towards our neighbour is to respect the bond on which the family is based, and that conjugal honour which to the true man is dearer than life. Marriage, according to the original institution, made the husband and wife "one flesh" (Genesis 2:24);
Jesus confirms this in Matthew 5:28

But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Would the ancient Hebrew word/concept of adultery have included homosexual sex?

I don't think so.
