Look what I got at a church rummage sale!

I got three novels which are crime/police thrillers, an illustrated book on Medieval history, and a big photographic coffee-table book about a woman who crossed the Australian Outback alone with a couple of camels. For the DVDs, I got three war movies (one of them an ancient film with Humphrey Bogart), and two crime thrillers. I also got two music CDs, one of Frank Sinatra and another of Rosemary Clooney. (I was raised in a household with two World War II vets, so I grew up on the music of the 30's and 40's. :) )

Nice stuff. :) The early music is good. And yes, geology is fascinating. Just had to figure out why the colors of the rocks were green.

Veterans outraged after investigation finds VA gave $10.8 million in bonuses to senior executives

It's pretty unremarkable for somebody in their mid-50's who's been working six-figure jobs for the last 30 years. Responsible spending and consistent retirement savings will get you that far.
True that.

California teacher fired for religious beliefs gets six-figure payout in court

The gender and pronoun routine has gone way beyond he and she. Young people have come up with such a plethora of genders to identify as and pronouns to be called, it's virtually impossible to keep up with any of it.
So, you know how some stores give discounts to law enforcement, or military veterans? I am betting that in a few years, some youngsters are gonna say "I identify as a war veteran" and use forged military IDs to get discounts, when in reality, these people are not veterans or police. This example shows the logical fallacy of the gender identity movement.

Did Christ die for the sin of unbelief ?

Jn 1:29

29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Now the sin of the world did involve unbelief. Eve didn't believe the truth of God. God had said in the day that you eat you shall surely die. Observe Gen 2:17

But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Now Gen 3:2-4

And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

as a result of unbelief:

5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
If there’s an unforgivable sin, then that means there’s a sin Christ didn’t atone for.

The Gift of Christ's Righteousness

Okay, I think I follow you. Is the Gift of imputed righteousness ours before we believe in Jesus ? Since He died for us before we believed in Him correct ?

In a sense it's there, but I'd think it's not actually ours until we "believe unto righteousness" (Romans 10:10) because we are still in our sins. However, in a sense since this was all predestined and foreordained before the foundation of the world it is there from the cross, "while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8)
That would get into the perspective of God's time and our time, where we look at things on a linear time scale, a sequence of events unfolding one after another, whereas God sees things from an eternal perspective in which time as we know it does not exist.
Could we say that it's ours but we don't know it, and we only come to know it when we believe and receive Him?
I love the deep mysteries of God!

The Gift of Christ's Righteousness

Has Christ fulfilled all the Law in behalf of others ?
Yes, so that they might be reconciled with God, that healed union being the essence and basis of man’s own righteousness/justice, while alienation from God is the essence of his injustice. Man was made for communion with God IOW and is lost, dead, disordered if apart from Him.

Jesus did more than gain forgiveness of sin for us; He did a major “reset” in us; we’re new creations now, enabled to be who we were created to be-and we were not created to sin. With Adam man became unrighteous; with Christ man becomes righteous again (Rom 5:19). And that’s why there’s no condemnation in Him (Rom 8:1). The righteousness given as we turn to Him in faith is real, not merely or solely imputed. It’s the seed of God’s own life implanted in us.

To put it another way: we love because He’s loved us.

Heaven for Eternity

We will be able to visit all the stars and planets if there are any. Plenty to do. Heaven is a big place. In spirit a 1000 year praise session will be nothing. One day at a time. We still only have an earthly mind to comprehend it.
No time means no passage of time. We will eat as a group. I expect to be met at the pearl gate by people I know and there will be fellowship like never before. No boredom.
Hopefully heaven has warp drive capable ships, so we can explore the planets there as Picard does in Star Trek TNG. :)

JK Rowling calls 'crossdressing' men 'one of the most pandered-to demographics in existence'

I don't see the objection.

Does God actually have sexuality?
Well, God the Father refers to Himself as a He, even though God the father does not have any anatomy (according to the Bible), and Jesus is a guy. But, these progressive pastors are trying to slap on gender labels for God.

Houston-area school board votes to remove 13 chapters from state-approved science textbooks, citing controversial topics

I'm with you.
Ok cool. Now I wanna pull our focus into the carbon cycle for a minute. In lieu of explaining each of the process, I'll show you a diagram that explains it pretty well.
And to clarify, it's NOT the "CO2 cycle"...just carbon.

1715953088676.png

So to be clear, this is a BIT of a skematic, but it shows how a molecule of carbon is not something that just sits there in one form. It moves through a whole system accomplishing several tasks and binding with different other molecules in those processes.

What I would bring your attention to, is the bottom of the chart where it says "dead organisms and waste products" (and of course what's underneath). Assuming you're not a YEC, we can continue with the idea that, over the course of hundreds of millions of years, the dead and decaying organisms in certain parts of the world, managed to, with just the right amounts of time, pressure and heat, convert swampland, brush, and dead animals and plants into the fossil fuels we see below the surface.

Now you'll note that the "Dead organisms" section of the cycle has an arrow moving AWAY from it as well. Because you know if you have a compost pile, your decaying plant material is losing carbon both through the air, and as food for micro and macroorganisms, and is being leached back into the soil (or, of course, purposefully distributed within your compost, to other parts of your soil).

Anyways, you note that our current "dead organisms" are part of the cycle. In fact, the cycle is pretty much closed. You'll note that you COULD take the human made source from this diagram and the cycle would still function normally. But you'll also note that, fossils just sitting under the surface of the planet are not a part of the cycle. They are just sitting there. Doing nothing.

What that means is the planet has had a natural "bank" or storage area for MASSIVE amounts of carbon. Over hundreds of millions of years, carbon was being sequestered underground. In fact, it was, very very slowly, being removed from that carbon cycle on the surface. This carbon was and is being stored as the fossils fuels you are more than aware of.

I'm hoping this is all making sense so far.

Now the question is:

Are you aware of how much carbon (or carbon dioxide) have humans released since the mid 18th century when urbanization, industrialization and coal burning began to pick up?

To the science haters out there this is not a thread for you.

Remember the days of cradles for phone handsets and when 1200 baud was smoking?
Well, I remember the Panasonic phones, and TDS Wi-Fi that was in the high single digit to just a dozen or so megabits per second, and in the mid-2010s, 100 Mbps was only a dream. Now, my Wi-Fi is in the double digits as I do not need fast wi-fi (~50 MBPs), and one of my friends has 500 Mbps to nearly gigabit speeds.

This was the future of landline telephony in the mid-2000s, with caller ID and name displayed on the LCD. :) The phone even had intercom capabilities, to talk to people on the other end of the house. Japanese technology (as Panasonic's HQ is in Japan), my friend.

Did Christ die for the sin of unbelief ?

Believing comes with the Gift of eternal life. Eternal life is the Gift of God first and then whoever the Gift is applied to shall believe. See you must have eternal life applied in order to believe Jn 6 47

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
I understand this theological system and do not adhear to it. It is the cart before horse, regeneration preceeding faith. Thanks for engaging!

Stanley Cup Playoffs

Since the Penguins fell short this season, I'll root for the underdogs. Rangers took care of the Panthers, that was a good series. I'm hoping Florida will eliminate Boston. I like Auston Matthews and wanted the Leafs to beat the Bruins. My main desire is to actually watch playoff hockey, the NHL has alienated many fans by showing all the games on cable TV. That is a growing trend in sports. I haven't seen the past two or three college playoffs due to their broadcasts being restricted to cable TV. I think it's refreshing to see (read about lol) some teams from Canada having success in the playoffs this year. Oilers sadly fell down 3 games to 2 with a devastating loss in the last 30 seconds against the Canucks. That will be difficult to overcome, but definitely not impossible. I love playoff hockey. That's when watching hockey on TV is worthwhile. I must admit that puck is harder to follow though as I get older haha.

If my home team falls (as they have--the Hurricanes) then I will switch to rooting for a Canadian team--it's your game, after all.
Nice! I am now worried. It's funny, I can't handle the stress of it. I can only basically watch the first period now.

When I saw EVERYONE was favouring Edmonton over Vancouver, I got REALLY scared....turns out, with good reason.

Wicked Lose your salvation Documentary on YouTube promoting a works based salvation

If I preach a gospel about Christ
And another preach a gospel, also about Christ.

It must necessarily be true that we are both preaching the same gospel?
Yes, it must be the same gospel. God is not the author of confusion. Sure Paul taught certain mysteries (such as all are "changed at the last trump", etc) and gave his own advice at times but the gospel itself is the same. He taught Christ crucified. He taught the gospel of Christ.

Romans 1:9 "For God is my witness, Whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers,"

Romans 1:15 "So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also

I Corinthians 1:5 "That in every thing ye are enriched by Him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;"

I Corinthians 1:6 "Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:"

I Corinthians 1:12 "Now this I say, that every one of you saith, "I am of Paul", and "I am of Apollos"; and "I am of Cephas"; and "I am of Christ"."

Does this sound familiar? It sounds a lot like what you are trying to prove. You clearly believe you are "of Paul".

I Corinthians 1:13 "Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?"

Again, this sounds a lot like what you are trying to say with the different gospels. You are stating the gospels are divided.

I Corinthians 1:17 "For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect."

I Corinthians 1:23 "But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness;"

I Corinthians 1:24
"But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God."

Acts 9:15 "But the Lord said unto him, "Go thy way: for He is a chosen vessel unto Me, to bear My name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:"

Galatians 1:6 "I marvel that ye are so soon removed from Him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:"

Galatians 1:8 "But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed."

Galatians 1:9 "As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed."

Galatians 2:14 "But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?"

The gospel -same gospel

Philippians 1:5 "For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;"

Philippians 1:27 "Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;"

Colossians 1:5 "For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;

Paul taught on every level but it is still the same gospel. His gospel that he is preaching is the gospel of Christ. He states that we are not to say we are of "Paul", etc. Christ is not to be divided which you are trying to do.

I could go on but I'll just end with this verse-

Mark 16:15 "And He said unto them, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature"

That includes everyone.

IS 2 COR 3:6 SPEAKING ABOUT THE NEW COVENANT ?

The book of Hebrews describes the new covenant as better (not new) than the old covenant (Heb. 8:1-2, 6, NRSV). The obvious question, then, is Why did God establish the old covenant if it was faulty? The problem, however, was not with the covenant but with the response of the people to it.

It is Jesus that fulfills all covenants .... He is the only one that can and why it's a better covenant.
The new covenant is "new", as attested to by God (according to the writer of Hebrews).

In that He says, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. (Heb 8:13)

God used the word, "new" purpose when He told Jeremiah of the new covenant which was to come because He was indicating that the first covenant was going to be made obsolete. That's why one is called "old" and the other is called "new". The fact that the new covenant is better than the old covenant does not detract from the fact that it is new.

To the science haters out there this is not a thread for you.

There is being ignorant with regards to not knowing something as well being ignorant which generates racism, sexism, anti-intellectualism etc.
This particular individual without knowing anything about my sister boldly declared she will burn in hell for being an atheist, or I am a crook for supporting IAU's stance on reclassifying Pluto.

As I have mentioned on numerous occasions, it is a sad state of affairs there are individuals who cannot respectfully disagree but need to express their disagreements in the form of assuming to be morally and ethically superior to those who do not share their opinions.
Well, we should pray for this individual. It is okay for the IAU to demote Pluto, and I support the IAU's decision wholeheartedly. We also need to demote Planet Fitness as well, but that's for another thread.

Yes, the world is becoming more divided sadly, but there is nothing we can do. I do hope that your sister understands God, and repents, but I will never say stuff about her getting condemned, cos that is not a Christian thing to say. For me, I would tell your sister about the wonders of the universe (God's creation), the Cosmic Microwave Background, and how a priest developed the Big Bang theory alongside Edwin Hubble in the 1920s. Our universe is a beautiful tapestry of galaxies, billions of years old, and strengthens my faith in God.

Consensus is a tricky thing. You can't get countries to agree on anything. Capitalism or communism. Freedom of rights or restrictions of the same. Interventionist or isolationist. Suni or Shia. Christian or secular. Muslim or Hindu. Women's rights or women's subjugation. The coalition of the willing or the axis of evil. Countries have literally gone to war over a football game. So yeah, consensus eh? Slippery little customer. Fat chance of getting anything anywhere near it. Well...with one exception.

The Paris Accord, which was an agreement that recognised gobal warming and set targets for combating it, was signed by every country on the planet (bar three: Libya, Yemen and Iran. I'll note that somebody in a position to do so extricated you guys from it a while back, but the guy who took his place immediately signed you back in).

That sort of consensus where you have North Korea agreeing with South Korea, where you have Israel agreeing with Saudi Arabia, where you have the US agreeing with China and Russia agreeing with Ukraine...well, that must surely give you pause for thought. Surely, that degree of consensus must make you think 'Hmm, maybe I should take another look at this.'

No? Or maybe your level of expertise on the matter is such that you can dismiss all the experts in all the countries on the planet. No, of course it isn't. So let me suggest that you allow people who are worried about the type of world their children and grand children will inherit give you all the information you need to make an educated decision.
I don't give that Accord much credence because every country sets their own standards and there are no methods of enforcement.

Basically - it does not require the biggest polluters to really do anything.

Coming to an agreement on some "imminent threat" that requires no action is not convincing to me at all.

If the biggest advocates of climate change being an "imminent threat" are the same people who own and fly all the private jets, own and sail all the yachts, own and drive the most gas-guzzling vehicles - and are buying up all the beach-front properties - color me skeptical.

Also, the rosaries look similar to emerald, did not know that marble could be naturally green. Must be copper in it.

Edit: Nope, Connemara is green cos of serpentine.

Serpentine, another mineral present in Connemara marble, also contributes to its green color. Serpentine is a magnesium silicate mineral that forms in the metamorphosis of olivine-rich rocks. It crystallizes in the monoclinic system and is characterized by its curved, ribbon-like or tubular structure. Serpentine is responsible for the green color of the marble, as it contains significant amounts of magnesium and iron hydroxides and chlorides.

Is modern secular society headed down the path to Sodom and Gomorrah.

It doesn't matter what it is. The "sealing" isn't going to make anything that happened acceptable, or not happen.
Without knowing what a Sealing is - you don't know what happened.

You have yet to even share any evidence to support what you think happened.

And by what standard are you judging what is or is not "acceptable"?
None of this is even remotely on topic and I doubt you would find any evidence that could be found convincing.
It is on topic in regard to the repeated claims that you have made. Claims that you have not even tried to support.

I would not be the one looking for evidence to support your claim.
There is no point to this.
That may be true at this point - but only because of you.

I wish we could talk about things openly and without judgment.

Yet - as I said - you are not prepared to have this discussion.

God bless.
