IQ among Americans is falling

I'm finding this hard to believe. Whenever I'm talking to an American in face-to-face conversions, I think they're getting smarter over the years. For me, being quite spontaneous in live conversations points to good IQ because they can process information and express themselves comprehensively quickly. And they're making more money than ever and the products far more sophisticated than the years past.

So I don't get it. Maybe their intelligence is extremely specialized? For the lack of good choice of words, dumb and unable to make sound reasoning outside their professional fields?
Intelligence is a very flexible thing. The sort of cognitive abilities that would have served you well in 1900 are probably not the same as those that work well today. Technology alone has changed the sorts of cognitive skills required to succeed. And it's probably made some cognitive skills less important.

At current rates of consumption, the U.S. has at least two centuries of oil, report says

I'm sure you haven't read the rest of my thoughts on some of this. It ties in nicely. And I honestly don't have to want to type it over and over again.

I believe we SHOULD be good stewards if what we have. Should we just dump lead paint into the rivers just because the world is going to end? What about letting factories pump out toxic fumes? I say no. How about we just all dump our trash onto the side if the road? Absolutely not. We all have to live here.

And we want to enjoy a nice place without wearing masks cause we can't breath the polluted air or drink the polluted water.

But being a good steward and having a livable home is NOT the same thing as trying to stop the inevitable climate change and creating a bunch of goofy stuff that won't really do anything except cost all of us a ton of money.

I mean we could all go back to riding buggies and living in huts, but that still won't stop anything.

Let's dial back the rhetoric about how we are all responsible for killing the earth and all that nonsense. Making claims like electric cars will save rhe planet when we have NO IDEA that they will.

My mom wouldn't have allowed me to have a dirty room, no.matrwr what my excuse. And I don't want to live in a dirty land where I can't breathe or drink the water either.

So let's just quit making foolish assumptions. You all sound like nothing but a bunch of stuck records who can't get off the "all conservatives want dirty air and water" track.
The rapid pace of warming seen since the industrial revolution is/was no more "inevitable" than lead poisoning your rivers just because lead occurs in nature. It took human activity to do that. The only reason you don't recognize that is because your favored political tribe sold out to corporate interests a few decades ago and chose to feed you a bunch of nonsense that supported their agenda and helped keep the industrialists rich.

The Triumph of Bidenomics!

We all know it's high. What we're arguing about are specifics. Also, the data in your article is from 2022. I don't know if there's any official food price data that's newer than that, but a fair bit has changed in the last 2 years with respect to inflation and wages.

It's probably even worse now, as food prices have continued to climb.

The article was published in February of this year, and references "the latest data from the USDA", which can be seen here:

How Martin Luther Invented Sola Scriptura

Luther rejected papal, conciliar and ecclesiastical infallibility and said that popes and ecumenical councils could err.

Sola Scriptura began when Martin Luther decided to deny the infallibility of the Church, ecumenical councils and the pope — i.e., claiming that they could err — thus leaving the Bible as the only infallible rule of faith.

The novelty wasn’t mentioned in Luther’s 95 Theses (posted Oct. 31, 1517). But Protestant Luther biographer Roland Bainton (Here I Stand) stated that in 1518 “Luther ... had further declared the pope and councils to be capable of error.” Then he reiterated and strengthened such claims during his 18-day Leipzig Disputation of July 1519, with Johann Eck. Bainton reports that Luther stated:

In 1520, Luther expressly denied papal infallibility: “They play about with words before our very eyes, trying to persuade us that the pope cannot err in matters of faith, regardless of whether he is righteous or wicked.” Even more radically, he wrote, “If we are all priests ... why should we not also have the power to test and judge what is right or wrong in matters of faith?” And, “Popes, bishops, canons, and monks. God has not instituted these offices.” Accordingly, he wrote in March 1521:

I actually agree partly with Luther, but also agree with the Catholic church. As a Catholic, we must be careful not to treat anyone as being sinless. No human institution is perfect, but it is best that we use faith first, scripture next. Then, works follows, as it helps to maintain our faith, cos without works, we have a higher probability of losing the faith (losing salvation).

Any person who eats any blood, even that person shall be CUT OFF FROM HIS PEOPLE

Leviticus 7:

27 Any person who eats any blood, even that person shall be cut off from his people.
What did "cut off from his people" mean?

Leviticus 17 offered some insight:

10 any man from the house of Israel, or from the aliens who sojourn among them, who eats any blood, I will set My face against that person who eats blood and will cut him off from among his people.
Would this simply mean they were cast out of the camp and never welcomed back?

Wiki:

The Hebrew term kareth ("cutting off" Hebrew: כָּרֵת‎, [kaˈret]) is a form of punishment for sin ... In the Talmud, kareth means not necessarily physical "cutting off" of life, but extinction of the soul and denial of a share in the world to come. ...
In the Hebrew Bible, kareth is a form of punishment which may mean premature death, or else exclusion from the people.[3][4] According to Richard C. Steiner, the phrase "to be cut off from one's people" is an antonym for "to be gathered to one's people" (e.g. Genesis 25:8), and thus kareth in the Bible means to be deprived of the afterlife.[5]
Examples of sins making a person liable to kareth include eating chametz on Passover,[6] sexual violations,[7] ritual impurities, and a man's refusal to be circumcised.[8] The Book of Numbers states that anyone who sins deliberately or high-handedly receives kareth.
Rabbinic interpretation:

Kareth is the punishment for certain crimes and offences defined under Jewish law (e.g. eating the life blood of a living animal, eating suet, refusing to be circumcised, etc.), a punishment that can only be given at the hand of heaven unto persons of the Jewish faith who are bound to keep the Jewish law, rather than made punishable by any earthly court. In some cases of sexual misconduct and in breaking the laws of the Sabbath, such as where there are witnesses of the act, the court is able to inflict punishment. By definition, kareth does not apply to non-Jews. Kareth can either mean dying young (before the age of 50 or 60[10]), dying without children, or the soul being spiritually "cut off" from your people after death.[11] According to Nachmanides, both definitions are accurate
What did "cut off from his people" mean?

He would no longer be a citizen of God's kingdom of Israel.

Atlanta officer charged with murder thought Lyft driver was in ‘gay fraternity,’ tried to kidnap him

I get it - but what if the driver wasn't actual a homosexual? Would it be like an "imaginary hate crime"?

I think most 'hate crime' laws include actions that were caused by "the perception" that the victim fell into one of the protected groups. So that would still apply if that was what motivated the shooter.

Rare Deep Sea Squid with ‘Headlights’ Captured on Video–Mistaking the Camera for Food–WATCH

Very deep sea life has so many that look alien. It’s fascinating.
It is. God's Creation has always fascinated me, and encourages me to study Christianity even more, as faith and science go hand-in-hand.

"Overeager staffer" posts video to Trump's personal Truth Social account predicting “the creation of a unified Reich” if he wins in 2024

So it seems likely it is a non-issue (as others have said).
But the story is not untrue.

But your conclusion almost certainly is, which is what I was saying is untrue. Heck, you even admit here when you say it "seems likely it is a non-issue".

I get it. You've been conditioned to believe anything bad about Trump without question. As a result, that predisposition is going to cause you to get duped sometimes.

So I was very encouraged to see the very first response actually provide actual context. It goes to show me that there are still objective, critical thinking people out there, and that is encouraging.

Helicopter Herder Follows a Dog’s Tracks from the Air to a Miracle Rescue

Jamie Rooney is reunited with his dog Rocky in Jack Poplawski’s helicopter – Supplied Jamie Rooney

A helicopter pilot in Australia recently found a man’s missing dog in the Outback in what the owner called a “needle in a haystack rescue.”

For those who’ve never been to cattle country Down Under, it might come as a surprise to know that because the ranches are so vast, farmers will often hire helicopter pilots to round the cattle up for them.

But in late April, pilot Jack Poplawski got a different sort of phone call—a man had lost his dog and was desperate for some help.

Continued below.
This is wholesome. In an alternate timeline though, a dog on or with a helicopter would try to find a missing man.

Wait, that actually happened in February 2024, well, with the police dogs on the ground of course: See how Massachusetts State Police used dogs, helicopter to find missing Russell man

Rare Deep Sea Squid with ‘Headlights’ Captured on Video–Mistaking the Camera for Food–WATCH

Australian marine biologists recently captured video of a large, deep-water squid attacking one of their cameras over 3,000 feet below the surface of the ocean.

The deep-sea hooked squid is one of the largest deep-dwelling squid species, but rather than the animal’s size, it was the glowing lights on the end of its tentacles that most interested scientists.

A team from the Minderoo campus of the University of Western Australia’s Deep Sea Research Center was deploying baited, free-falling cameras to record video footage of deep-sea life.

Wow, this squid looks like an alien, but it is from Earth.

What's up with human-generated curses (and blessings) in the Bible?

In the Law that God instructed Moses to give, there is regulation that a son should not be punished for the sins of the father. But it seems that curses are applied over generations, to people that had not personally done wrong. How is this consistent?

The New and Improved No-Straw-Man Challenge

Now since I am not referring to Calvin’s teachings or Westminster’s or the council of Dort’s I’m not required to quote them because I’m talking about what YOU TEACH, not what they teach. The only source I can quote as evidence of what YOU TEACH is YOU, which o have done repeatedly. So now that all the obstacles have been removed are you finally going to answer the question, what does it mean that God’s kindness is leading them to repentance?
The OP is set up that you do so. If you don’t want to, that’s fine. But to continue, you must support your claim with an appropriate writing.

Priest in UK Spreads Vulgar Sermon [Article recommended for ages 17+]

I hope you will take this response in the right way, Alex. Supernatural faith is exactly that: supernatural. It is not acquired by reasonings, by human advice or discussions, by logic, by human relationships or feelings or decisions or wishes or any act of man in his fallen human nature. Rather it is a gift, lest anyone should boast. We can begin to rightly dispose ourselves for this gift, should the Lord perceive in us a hunger and thirst for righteousness, by listening until we hear, and hearing until we live, the Word of God.

I urge you to listen to Him. To Him, until you begin to hear what only God can say to you.
I do listen to God, by reading the Bible more, and studying it daily. But yes, I will try to get better at this.

The Triumph of Bidenomics!

I genuinely wonder if the people arguing food prices here ever actually buy food. I also wonder if they understand basic math. Let's pick a round number. If the average increase in food prices is 10%, that means some prices are up way more than 10% and some prices are up less than 10%. It depends entirely on the food you buy what your actual percentage increase will be.

The fact is, Americans are spending the biggest share of their income on food in 3 decades.

Between groceries and restaurants, Americans are spending more of their income on food than they have in 30 years.
That's according to the latest data from the USDA, which shows that U.S. consumers spent more than 11% of their disposable income on eating — whether at home or at a restaurant — in 2022, the highest percentage since 1991.
We all know it's high. What we're arguing about are specifics. Also, the data in your article is from 2022. I don't know if there's any official food price data that's newer than that, but a fair bit has changed in the last 2 years with respect to inflation and wages.

What's up with human-generated curses (and blessings) in the Bible?

When Isaac's blessing was stolen by Jacob, how did this work? Was Jacob bound by his word after being tricked? Was God bound to this? This doesn't make sense to me.
Yes. The Words Blessings Meanings spoken were/are binding because God Says So , and btw the Patriarchs always knew this... in todays world, no one keeps their <own> word, nor God's Word <basically> ... (only a remnant is able to) ...

. What kind of sense would it have to make ? It is simply Truth from God, and He Watches over His Word to Accomplish His Word.

Your opinions about watching tv

I am disgusted by television also, the violence is everywhere and I cant stand it, I watch a few shows from apple tv, and prime that do not contain violence but it is hard to find, I spend a lot of time finding appropriate shows or movies, sometimes I end up closing the TV and find something else to do. it is hard to kick the habit of watching TV, we have been watching since a young age. when my old TV breaks down, i am not certain i will buy another one...as for sports, I no longer enjoy it, too much violence and also people idolize these players which is wrong to me.

Blessings
Solution: Go to the library, and rent DVDs (for free), and watch classic shows from 2019 and before. That is what I have been doing lately. My TV is a 43 inch LG43UN700T-B monitor with built in speakers, connected to a Roku (which I rarely use now, except for HBO superhero movies and older anime), and a DVD player.

Thoughts about the confusing word: "Law"

Agree.

Paul was a servant of Christ Rom 1:1 and sadly either people take his teachings above Christ's teachings which a servant is not greater than his master John 13:16 or go to the other extreme and claim Paul was not a servant of Christ and his teachings were bad. His teachings are twisted out of context just like the warning 2 Peter 3:16 on both sides of the extreme. Paul never taught something different than Jesus, he just had a way of saying things that make him hard to understand, which is what people do when they only quote one verse of his without bringing in the whole context or trying to reconcile it with the teachings of the rest of scriptures and the teachings of Jesus.
Is everything Paul taught hard to understand?
I don't think so, just a particular subject that Peter was teaching, as also Paul did in all letters which these things were taught....
I think Peter is speaking of the day of the Lord, escatology. Peter himself was writing to them concerning that very thing, "these things". It was the particular subject of "the day of the Lord and his coming", that were difficult to understand. Which Paul also in all his epistles speaking of these things.
Peter is not talking about the subject of the gospel of our salvation.

1 Peter 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

Future things, The longsuffering things....in agreement with Paul's teachings of these things

15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things;
in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

Morehouse Students Turn Their Backs, Walk Out of Graduation as Joe Biden Gives Speech

Why not use landmines?

What an inane comparison.

Razor wire is used to keep people out of where they're not supposed to be. It's highly visible, and you know darn right well that if you attempt to climb through it, you're going to get cut up pretty bad.

Landmines, on the other hand, are hidden beneath the ground where no one can see them, and where their sole purpose is to kill.

The idea that razor wire is somehow "inhumane" is lunacy. Stay away from the highly visible razor wire that is meant to deter you from going somewhere you're not supposed to go anyway, and no one gets hurt.

Your opinions about watching tv

Right off the bat, I wanna say that whatever you watch is your business. I'm only speaking for myself.

I have 200 channels and only watch 2 - sports and the game show channel. I've grown progressively disgusted with the rest. Sex, sex, sex. Immoral situations. Worldly values. And just in general, I'm just losing interest all together. I think Ive gorged on sitcoms long enough. I really wish I got a nature channel, I would really dig that. Just one Christian channel (won't say which one) but it's all prosperity preachers and mega-churches. No thanks.

I spend most of my time posting here and elsewhere online and watching Christian video shorts on YouTube. Really enjoying it.

As for sports, I'm eager for football season, been a fan since the days of Roger Staubach with my Dallas Cowboys.

Lately I've been evaluating whether I really should watch football though. Even though the protection has improved, there are still a lot of serious injuries, especially concussions. So it can rightfully be called a violent sport - like boxing - which I definitely dont watch.

And the player's salaries are obscene (as is all entertainment). There's something, I dunno, unbiblical about fans paying huge ticket prices just to watch their sports gods (ie, literal idol worship) running around tossing a pigskin this way and that way. Ya know?

But pro ball, on the other hand, does have The Fellowship Of Christian Athletes. And players who give testimonies and pray on the field before the cameras.

I like college football much better than pro. No salaries (supposedly), a little more green and less polished thus more exciting.

And just two examples where God sure seemed to involve Himself. Colt McCoy of my Texas Longhorns getting sidelined by a concussion in the National Championship and the rest of the team getting stomped without him (whimper). At the press conference the next day he said (paraphrasing) that football was not his top priority in life, that Jesus is. And that he'll get over it pretty quick. He was just happy for such an exciting year. Humbled all us fans.

And finally there's Tim Tebow who wore John 3:16 under his eyes. Google reported millions of searches of that verse that day. A year later somebody asked him if he'd seen his stats for the game that just finished. He showed Tim that just about every stat was 316. Cool, huh?

So... I dunno. Thoughts?
I am done with Doctor Who. TV has gone way too woke nowadays, and that is from a guy who is center, somewhat left. For myself, I am okay with a black Doctor, I am okay with racial diversity, as I am brown myself (Romani ethnicity), but I am fed up with gender pronoun stuff. Remember when real issues were talked about in shows, such as solving climate change, or mental health, instead of this Doctor Woke stuff? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Woke Dr. Who [Content warning, video presenter uses cussing, ages 15+]
Summary: The speaker discusses the increasing introduction of feminist ideologies in the TV show "Doctor Who," starting from the era of Russell T Davies and continuing through the tenure of subsequent showrunners. He mention specific instances of what they perceive as forced diversity, politically correct storylines, and attacks on traditional masculinity. The speaker expresses disappointment with the decline in writing quality and the shift towards promoting social justice causes rather than focusing on the core elements of the show. They specifically critique the Chris Chibnall era, including the introduction of the first female Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) and the first gay black Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa). The speaker believes that the show is no longer suitable for the general audience and accuses the creators of pursuing a social engineering agenda. For instance, the newest Doctor Who episode has a drag queen in it. Overall, the tone of the summary is critical of recent changes in Doctor Who, viewing them as unnecessary and harmful to the integrity of the show.
