By itself, it does speak volumes. But context makes all the difference. John 11 says that Jesus became troubled when he saw Mary and her friends weeping. I think Jesus wept because they had totally accepted Lazarus' death and that after all the Jesus' preaching, they still thought death was the end.

That's my take on the situation...

people think i am nuts, while attending funurals i do not cry, i wear a smile, they ask me how i can be so cold hearted? but i try to explain thaty when they wake up, we wil be with then, if God chooses it to be so, and that this is just a formality that we all must go trough, it is not a good bye, just a see ya later, they got picked for the advanced recon duty, and toi be honest, while i do not wish to die, i am envyous of the ones that have been chosen....

Reps to Billy!

On a second read-through of John 11, I think Jesus wept because it was getting close to His time and still nobody really understood what was going on. Jesus said, "I am the ressurection and the life." and still they weep!

I feel it does speak it two or thee different ways

1) Show how he had/has a love for them

2)That he understood but yet they didn't see the light of what was going to happen

3) They loved him but yet wept not thanking him for all he has done, wepting instead of worshiping praising God

Now when I go to funnerals sometimes I cry and sometmes I don't if I am close to person I cry b/c I know it will be a while before I see them again and it hurts knowing that when you go in the store next time or when you go to a family reunion the whole family isn't their naturally. I wish and pray never to die or course but if I was to I would hope they people wouldn't cry I would hope they would rejoice for the many years that I have lived, knowing that I am okay and that I am not crying, that they know if they accept the Lord or already has that they will see me again shortly and it's better to rejoice in my life which would make me happier than for them to have sorrow in my death. Remember we are souls with bodies not bodies with souls, and remember while my flesh /body might be dead I am still alove just sleeping:)

Somehow I don't believe he wept because the others didn't believe in eternal life.

They did, as witnessed by her statement that they would see Lazarus again at the resurrection.

He wept because of the sorrow he felt for the other's pain at Lazarus' death.

Christ wept on at least one other occasion, that being when He wept over the fate of Jerusalem, and Israel, because of their refusal to believe in Him. They systematically rejected Him and His miracles, and would be required to pay the penalty.

Being human, Christ experienced all the joy, sadness, hunger, pain, suffering that we all suffer. Otherwise He could not have satisfied the requirement of being human and God at the same time, and being the perfect sacrifice for our sins.
