Has anyone seen this anime or read the manga? This is one of my absolute favorite mangas. I just wanted to see if anyone else knew about it...

FireLight09 said:Saw the entire anime series. It's awesome, I gotta tell you. There's so many funny things about this, especially how they connect so much stuff to our Christianity but put it in such a weird way. Sad ending, though.
shirono said:actually they may be connecting things to christianity, but since I was a christian at the time I didn't really realize how much bull was in it. the person who wrote it never really mentions god or jesus except for in the christmas pagent in the christmas episode.
really the more i look back at it and watch it over again as a agnostic, I realize that though they used christianity, It was reall more warped towards shinto and buddhist beliefs than christian. The point in using christianity in the series was because it fit into the demographic of the time, the 20's.
I really liked this series though, chrno can be a bit to nice sometimes, although he has his reasons and I wish they had made him taller in his human form.
It does have a sad ending, but it makes sense in the story.
notanordinarygirl said:Actually, I dont think anyone mentioned that they were Catholic, either. So maybe nuns and priests were just how a Japanese non-Christian envisions Christianity. Heck, I remember going to a non-Catholic friends church about a year ago (I wasnt Catholic by then), looking around and asking, Where are all the nuns?![]()
And as for favorite characters, mine is by far the adult Chrno (*drool*), then its between Aion and Mary Magdalene. They supposedly didnt say much about Magdalene in the anime, though, which is a shame And Aion was a bit more psycho and anti-God than in the books... >>
actually I thought Aion was pretty sane in the anime, he thought his plans through well and he wasn't exactly anti-god he was just tired of being the pawns in god's games, kinda like me.
Aion is probably my favorite *drool*, then the guy who was an angel (can't remember the name, it's been about a year since I watched it with my little sis.)
And yes I wish they had talked more about mary magdalene in the anime, she was really interesting and could have used more time discussing her.

I always hated the Elder... stupid perv.
Yeah, in the anime, he just blatantly states it, "I too possess the title of 'Angel'." I guess either way it makes sense how he can live for that long and still retain that 20-year old look that he has.
Well, to be technical (at least according to the dub), he said "I am not unlike an angel", when asked how he got to San Francisco from New York (or were they in Chicago?) so fast. With the final scene that occurs in 1981, I almost thought they were trying to imply that Remington was either the Wandering Jew or the Apostle John, both of which have had legends of immortality attributed to them (likewise, it's been suggested that Keel Lorenz from Neon Genesis Evangelion was also supposed to be a representation of the Wandering Jew or the Roman soldier Longinus). They never explored the issue of Remington's 'angel' comment in the anime, though. Of course, it's really confusing since other characters refer to him as 'angel' or whatnot.FireLight09 said:In the anime, yes. He was part demon in the manga? Whoa."
