Thanksgiving - Who Do You Thank?

From the 16th century explorers, to the 17th century pilgrims and settlers, to the 18th century Founding Fathers, and continuing to the mid 20th century, America has embraced Christianity. Though the secular educational system of today won't teach it and popular culture rejects it, there's a prevalence of laws, institutions, monuments, historical records, and quotes we have to support this claim. Nowhere is this more evident than the Thanksgiving proclamations that have been made by Congress, Presidents, and State Governors, with the Federal government alone issuing over 170 of them to date.

I don't expect many individuals today bother to read the presidential proclamations that are released each year, yet alone the historical ones accessible now on the internet. A reading of the earlier ones though reveals the religious nature that our nation's leaders applied to this occasion. Consider this prime example from the country's most notable Founding Father:

Proclamation for a Public Day of Thanksgiving and Prayer, October 3, 1789,
by George Washington - 1st President of the United States of America

“Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor - and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God ... Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be - That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks - for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation - for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence ... and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us. And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations, and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions ...to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue ...”

Is there any separation of church and state being exhibited here? Is there any political correctness or ambiguity for accommodating irreligious people or those of other, non-Christian religions? Is there any doubt of who deserves the thanks, glory and honor for our country's many blessings?

It seems Americans today are still committed to sitting down with family, enjoying a fine meal, and celebrating Thanksgiving day. But today's suppressed Christian culture has diluted the religious holiday. It's still common perhaps to hear people acknowledge their blessings, to express gratefulness, to even give thanks. But how often are those blessings specifically attributed to God? I'd suggest that such connection is being lost in our secular society.

To those who sit down this year with any kind of meal or life worthy of giving thanks, I'd ask, who are you thanking? If it's not the God of the universe who governs all things, then what's the point? Giving thanks is only rational if there's a real, specific recipient. For 400 years, Americans recognized and publicly thanked the Christian God of the Bible for their blessings. That tradition continues on today with the Thanksgiving holiday, but honestly, can only be done if God's openly invited to the table.

How to Become a Missionary

How do you become a Missionary? And a worse question: How do you deal with the fund raising for your mission. It's an obstacle for many upcoming missionaries and many won't enter the mission field because of this hindrance. This short video will help you. With a plan it's not that difficult.

To the guys! Have you held a girls hand or had her put her arm around yours?

I wanted to ask this question because it seems quite odd for me to have to go back to 2016 for this to have happen at a wedding in which I was in. Besides, I was quite shocked she did it in the first place. (I was a groomsman, she was a bridesmaid). That was and is the only time it happened and it may never happen again which is what I want. Yet, has anyone on this forum who has never dated with no interest in dating ever had this happen to them? I am just wondering.

And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. (99.9 upsidedown)

Biden says U.S. must not tolerate hate.....

.....even after he himself has repeatedly referred to his political opposition as:

"MAGA Republicans have made their choice. They embrace anger. They thrive on chaos. They live not in the light of truth but in the shadow of lies."

"We cannot and must not tolerate hate."

It would be nice if he would make up his mind.

Everyday Products That Might Soon Become Scarce

Most of the stuff on this list I could "tough out" not having, although I can fully understand how some items, such as baby formula and menstrual tampons, could present a real panic for those who need them.

But some of the items would present a real big problem for me: no **COFFEE**??? No **BACON**???

Say it isn't so!!! Plus, a pet food shortage would be problematic for me, with eight animals in the house. And, considering where I live, way out here in the Back o' Beyond, a gasoline shortage would present a real problem, too.

They shall never enter my rest

Hebrews 3:11
So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’

When God said they will never enter His rest, I assume He's talking about eternal rest, yes?

Question: How many of the Israelites failed to enter His rest? Did God deliver His people from Egypt just to damn all of their souls to hell for angering Him? How many entered the promised land of Canaan?

2 men arrested, 1 with Nazi arm-band, accused of making online threats to attack New York synagogue, NYPD says

Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with online threats to attack a New York City synagogue, multiple law enforcement sources have told CNN.

New York Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell announced the arrests in a statement Saturday. Investigators from the FBI/NYPD Joint Terrorism Task Force and the NYPD Counterterrorism and Intelligence Bureau, in collaboration with law enforcement partners, uncovered what she called “a developing threat to the Jewish community” on Friday.

Christopher Brown, 21, from Aquebogue, New York, is being charged with making a terroristic threat, aggravated harassment, and criminal possession of a weapon. Matthew Mahrer, 22, of Manhattan, is facing a single charge of criminal possession of a weapon, a NYPD spokeswoman said.

Investigators were able to identify an address on 94th Street on Manhattan’s west side associated with a suspect’s friend, the sources said. When police and the FBI arrived there, they learned the two suspects had been there and dropped off a backpack, and were on their way to Penn Station, according to the sources.

Sources said the backpack was recovered with a Glock semi-automatic firearm, a ghost gun with an extended 30 round magazine and laser sight. When the two suspects were spotted by MTA Police at Penn Station they were taken into custody, the sources added.

Investigators told CNN there is a strong belief among law enforcement an imminent attack may have been prevented.

McCarthy Vows to Oust 3 Democrats From Their Committee Memberships

In stumping for the position, McCarthy has targeted Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee; and Reps. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., members of the House Intelligence Committee.

Can he do this?

Does God speak this way?

I know God *can* use any method He wishes to communicate with us. I'm just trying to figure out what is actually coming from Him or not.

For instance, I will see an ad, read a blog or something of that nature that coincides with thoughts I'm having and I'm wondering if God is telling me what He wants me to do through those things. But then I'm not entirely sure, so I don't want to go against what He's telling me by not following what I'm seeing. I'll try to make it make sense.

Here's an example (and this isn't actually what I'm seeing in particular): seeing information everywhere about becoming a missionary or hearing people talk about it and it correlates with thoughts at the same moment, like say I'm thinking about my desire to become a researcher and as I'm having that thought, an ad pops up about being a missionary or someone on the radio talks about their story. Or having a thought about what God wants from me and a Christian leader starts talking about the calling for a missionary. So then I feel like God is saying no, He doesn't want me to do what I originally wanted to, but to be a missionary instead and then I'll wonder if I'm not following Him if I try to pursue what I wanted. Hopefully that makes sense! Again, this wasn't my particular case, but I will get things like this for different themes in my life. Coincidences that just seem to line up and match the thoughts I'm having, whether it be through conversation with someone, something I read, something I see, etc. I just don't know what to make of it all and how to go about it. I don't want to disobey God! I'll keep seeing all these coincidences that seem like signs, and at the same time I feel sad if God is telling me He doesn't want me to have my desires.

Consecutive dreams within hours.

I had a dream that i was demoted at work. For accepting a job at a metal repair shop from a customer and i didnt take it up with the boss. I went to the bosses office. And i was just going to apologize for not taking it up with him. And a coworker was there with him. And the boss explained that he was demoting me and offering my position to the coworker, before any words even left my lips.

So i woke up. Searched around youtube for a sermon at 530am for maybe half an hour.

Then i fell asleep again.

Definitely a long dream. I will do my best to relay. I was just living life. Essentially. In a really nice house, nice lawn and community. Then my employer was acting really wierd at the shop. Laying on top of me, while he interviewed a new employee. "Are you a good worker?" "Yes, Very proficient" later in the office he just kept hugging me for awkwardly long moments. I kept patting his back so that he would let go.

As the dream carried on i realized that the boss was having all the employees murdered and having them replaced with a completely new crew, which i figured was probably why he was hugging me earlier. I went through a labyrinthine community evading all the new hires that essentially were trying to murder me, and i witnessed graphic muders, and some were sent to another dimension altogether through portals, in place of killing them.

Talk about wierd. Especially since they were separate dreams. Basically about the same thing.

And if it means that God is mad at me, thats....gonna be very...hard to deal with.

LGBT nightclub attacked in Colorado Springs

Club Q was hosting a drag show on saturday, and a brunch on sunday:

The article notes that Colorado Springs is a hotbed for fundamentalist Christians. I believe Focus on the Family is located there.

All of these snippets you carefully selected are extreme fringe, not at all representative of Christians. In fact, the words of some prove otherwise. I don't know what you are trying to prove here, except to smear actual Christians.

Do you find it reasonable that others are smeared with the same brush as the fringe who attach themselves to other causes?

Who is the only female saint called “the Great”?

This saint was known for her immense humility.

St. Gertrude was born in Germany around 1256. At the early age of five, she was sent to live with Benedictine sisters. She was an obedient, amiable, and profoundly humble child, and those who knew her were impressed by her virtues. When she was old enough, she entered the order and gave herself to intense study.

She was twenty-six when Our Lord first appeared to her, showing her His Sacred Heart. From this time on, she frequently received visions concerning the Sacred Heart. The visions were so engrossing that she would be utterly insensible to anything around her. In her great humility, she begged Our Lord that no outward sign would reveal her as a visionary to others.
