This is just not correct. Mr. Trump clearly ordered his attorney to make a payoff and then ordered his financial guys to repay the attorney and bill it as "legal fees". He knew he was laundering the payment to Cohen because he told them to "gross it up", that is increase the amount payed to Cohen to cover Cohen's taxes on it because a reimbursement was to be counted as *income* and subject to income taxes. In doing so they created false business records, which is a crime in New York.

In the process Mr. Trump and his company and lackies did a number of impermissible things not all of which are necessarily crimes:

1. Used business funds to pay an unrelated personal expense (hush money related to an affair)
2. Used business funds to make a campaign contribution (the "Stormy Daniels" payment was arranged in the days after the "Access Hollywood" tape came out just before election day.
3. Recorded the repayment to Mr. Cohen as legal fees.
4. Mr. Cohen falsely reported the repayment as income from legal services performed.

Paying an attorney for a non-disclosure agreement is a legal fee. What is happening is that Democrats are manufacturing charges, charges that no one else would be charged with, because they want their party to seize control of this country. If enough Democrats don't speak up this could be the end of our country as we know it. Imagine if Republican states started bringing charges against every Democrat who runs for national office.

Paying an attorney to DRAFT a non-disclosure agreement is a legal fee paid for a legal service. Making a payment to the other party is not a "legal fee". Such payments are often made *through* attorneys, but not *by* attorneys. A client (in this case Trump) may have deposited the payment in an escrow account with the law firm or lawyer and then the lawyer makes a payment out of escrow to cover the settlement. That is perfectly normal.

Trump did not pay into an escrow account with Cohen, nor did Cohen pay Clifford from an escrow account.

There is no valid reason why Trump must be forced to attend this farce of a trial. It has been quite common to have no-disclosure agreements and people don't get charged for keeping such agreements quiet. That is, people don't get charged in such cases until Trump. The judge is seeking control to keep Trump there, and keep Trump off of the campaign trail if he can.

There's a really easy way to avoid having a judge tell you what to do: don't break the law.

Additionally, freedom does not mean freedom from consequences. Trump is still free to go where he wants, but if he's not in attendance at his trial, there will be consequences for that.
