If you added to that declaration "... and change that gender anytime you want", then we'd be close to agreeing.
I personally haven't felt the need to change my gender, but I can only speak for myself.

You do you.

Now c'mon... that wasn't the definition. You just made that one up. The correct one is the one which you part quoted when you erroneously thought you'd been proved right (maybe the couple of negatives confused you). This quote:

I guess you'd be right if there were no 'social and cultural differences' in the US of A. But there are...

Now you agreed with that because you thought it proved you correct (that it didn't doesn't matter). So you do understand that there are 'social and cultural differences' in the US of A.' Hence (drum roll)...gender is a useful concept.
? Take a couple of aspirin and call me in the morning (local time).

As usual, the key word is always "felt". Feelings are both quixotic and capricious. It is impossible to build a body of shared knowledge on such quicksand.

Until you are forced to acknowledge one is a woman and the other is black or get fired.
Only saying the magic words in the memo can force you to do that. You need some kind of a magic charm to neutralize their supernatural power. Then you can say them without harm. You can use the gendered pronouns that Dylan wants without coming under his spell, and you won't have to change what you believe or how you behave about Rachel at all.

I wouldn't have thought that you'd need that long to work out where you went wrong.

But don't forget to show your workings and remember to use the quote function.

Under your definition of "gender" ie., I am whatever I feel like I am (today), we can't use that concept of gender in either case.
That's what it's become. Addison Rose Vincent talks about how the idea is that someone can cycle from one gender to another throughout the day.

So really gender is now is another word for whim.

Which part didn't you follow? I used the same definition as you offered. So don't you think there are cultural and social differences in the US? You actually made a point of quoting that part of the definition so it seems perverse to now deny they exist.

Let me know when you've made the decision.

Does Pluto claim to not be a planet?
It is a planet, but devious astronomers used magic words to cloud our minds and make us think it is now a dwarf planet. That's how words work. If we can be forced to use certain words they can actually change the reality we perceive. . For example, if a person with male reproductive organs and female gender traits requires us to use feminine gendered pronouns, it will put us under a spell and we will forced to believe that the person actually has female reproductive organs. I know that is hard to fathom, but pronouns apparently have that magical power.

o_mlly is saying one thing and you're reading another. In the past I attributed that to you twisting words to set up a strawman. But now I honestly think you get mixed up.

You don't have to care, one way or the other.

Well I care about harm being done to women and children (the real ones of course, not the men pretending to be them)...

You don't but hey...that's your choice.

I guess, in the end, my position is that we should all be respectful, polite and courteous to each other.

Me too....except my version of respect involves honesty and concern for the well-being of others, not concern for my reputation on the internet.

Oh, I don't know...the psychiatric field is still finding ways to cope with that.

-- A2SG, but somehow, people are still able to define their own gender anyway...

Even you seem to believe that gendered pronouns have some kind of magical power--to harm women and children?
I wouldn't have expected it from an atheist.

Good for you.

Still trying to make up assumptions about me, huh? Keep trying, you might even get one right, some day. Stranger things have happened.

Good for you.

Oh, my get garlic....
That's for vampires. But 2000 posts full of absolute gibberish about transgenders, the power of pronouns to make you think differently, a shadowy trans gender community and the power of the pronouns they want to make you use, a nebulous transgender ideology which it is dangerous to speak about...barking crazy stuff.

The only conclusion I can come to is that you think the words in the memo have supernatural powers.

The plan is for it to be universal. For everyone to change how everyone else is referred to. The elimination of terms that suggest human beings are male and female. That's what it is and should be discussed as such, rather the left watering it down. When people feel they have to water down, it's obvious they know there's a problem with it in its undiluted form.
