A glimpse at our Eastern & Western Christian Churches

That is not true. Show me where "full communion" is a thing. Churches are either in communion or they are not.
Those churches that did not accept the 4th Ecumenical Council - Chalcedon - need only to adopt its provisions. They don't even need to change their verbiage - my opinion - just issue the statement by their Synod/Assembly of Bishops/Faithful Assembly. Then after an investigation, and barring anything else, they will be accepted into Orthodoxy, I believe. Neither hard nor exotic.

Well that might be what you want to see, but the Antiochians and Alexandrian Greeks had other, more practical ideas. Specifically in the case of Antiochian-Syriac Orthodox relations, with the exception of the autonomous province of the AOCNA, they are now governed by this agreement:

A Synodal and Patriarchal Letter.

To All Our Children, Protected by God, of the Holy See of Antioch:

Beloved:

You must have heard of the continuous efforts for decades by our Church with the sister Syrian Orthodox Church to foster a better knowledge and understanding of both Churches, whether on the dogmatic or pastoral level. These attempts are nothing but a natural expression that the Orthodox Churches, and especially those within the Holy See of Antioch, are called to articulate the will of the Lord that all may be obey, just as the Son is One with the Heavenly Father (John 10:30).

It is our duty and that of our brothers in the Syrian Orthodox Church to witness to Christ in our Eastern region where He was born, preached, suffered, was buried and rose from the dead, ascended into Heaven, and sent down His Holy and Life Giving Spirit upon His holy Apostles.

All the meetings, the fellowship, the oral and written declarations meant that we belong to One Faith even though history had manifested our division more than the aspects of our unity.

All this has called upon our Holy Synod of Antioch to bear witness to the progress of our Church in the See of Antioch towards unity that preserves for each Church its authentic Oriental heritage whereby the one Antiochian Church benefits from its sister Church and is enriched in its traditions, literature and holy rituals.

Every endeavor and pursuit in the direction of the coming together of the two Churches is based on the conviction that this orientation is from the Holy Spirit, and it will give the Eastern Orthodox image more light and radiance, that it has lacked for centuries before.

Having recognized the efforts done in the direction of unity between the two Churches, and being convinced that this direction was inspired by the Holy Spirit and projects a radiant image of Eastern Christianity overshadowed during centuries, the Holy Synod of the Church of Antioch saw the need to give a concrete expression of the close fellowship between the two Churches, the Syrian Orthodox Church and the Eastern Orthodox for the edification of their faithful.

Thus, the following decisions were taken:

  1. We affirm the total and mutual respect of the spirituality, heritage and Holy Fathers of both Churches. The integrity of both the Byzantine and Syriac liturgies is to be preserved.
  2. The heritage of the Fathers in both Churches and their traditions as a whole should be integrated into Christian education curricula and theological studies. Exchanges of professors and students are to be enhanced.
  3. Both Churches shall refrain from accepting any faithful from accepting any faithful from one Church into the membership of the other, irrespective of all motivations or reasons.
  4. Meetings between the two Churches, at the level of their Synods, according to the will of the two Churches, will be held whenever the need arises.
  5. Every Church will remain the reference and authority for its faithful, pertaining to matters of personal status (marriage, divorce, adoption, etc.).
  6. If bishops of the two Churches participate at a holy baptism or funeral service, the one belonging to the Church of the baptized or deceased will preside. In case of a holy matrimony service, the bishop of the bridegroom's Church will preside.
  7. The above mentioned is not applicable to the concelebration in the Divine Liturgy.
  8. What applies to bishops equally applies to the priests of both Churches.
  9. In localities where there is only one priest, from either Church, he will celebrate services for the faithful of both Churches, including the Divine Liturgy, pastoral duties, and holy matrimony. He will keep an independent record for each Church and transmit that of the sister Church to its authorities.
  10. If two priests of the two Churches happen to be in a locality where there is only one Church, they take turns in making use of its facilities.
  11. If a bishop from one Church and a priest from the sister Church happen to concelebrate a service, the first will preside even when it is the priest's parish.
  12. Ordinations into the holy orders are performed by the authorities of each Church for its own members. It would be advisable to invite the faithful of the sister Church to attend.
  13. Godfathers, godmothers (in baptism) and witnesses in holy matrimony can be chosen from the members of the sister Church.
  14. Both Churches will exchange visits and will co-operate in the various areas of social, cultural and educational work.
We ask God's help to continue strengthening our relations with the sister Church, and with other Churches, so that we all become one community under one Shepherd.

Patriarch Ignatios IV
of the Greek Antiochian Church

Patriarch Ignatius Zakka Iwas
of the Syrian Orthodox Church of Antioch

We saw the fruits of this agreement in effect during the Syrian Civil War, when all members of both churches, including members of the AOCNA, prayed for the return of Metropolitan Peter of Aleppo and Archbishop Gregory of Aleppo, who were abducted while traveling back to that city together from Lebanon (the car they were traveling in disappeared without a trace).

Marrying a non Christian girl / Corinthians discussion (help!!!)

I would go further and remind folks that Eros in the Greek has no mention in the NT.

Should our aim not be to be motivated by Agape in every area of life ?

What does God despise ?? - the lusts of the flesh, the lusts of the eyes, and the pride of life.
I don't understand, so because Eros isn't mentioned, it's invalid? How absurd. The NT doesn't go into explicit detail in every aspect of life. Why arbitrarily try to add to the list of offences and sins when it's not necessary?

Eros is mentioned in the OT though, the Song of Solomon comes to mind. Is it your intention to demonize or scorn romantic affection, something God has gifted our species with, something that comforts many people on this planet? Romantic love and desire absolutely do not automatically equate to sinful lust. What exactly are you advocating for?

CONSECRATE yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you

Joshua 3:

1 Joshua rose early in the morning and they set out from [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]tim. And they came to the Jordan, he and all the people of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over.
Joshua prepared the people for the big day:

5 Joshua said to the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you.”
The LORD will part the water of the Jordan River.

How did they consecrate themselves?

Exodus 19:

14 Moses went down from the mountain to the people and consecrated the people; and they washed their garments. 15 And he said to the people, “Be ready for the third day; do not go near a woman.”
Benson explained:

Sanctify yourselves — Not only wash your clothes, and shun all kinds of bodily impurities, (see Genesis 35:2; Exodus 19:10; Numbers 9:10,) but purify your minds and hearts, by repentance, and faith, and new obedience, without which the external purifications of your bodies and garments will be of little avail. In other words, prepare yourselves by seriousness, recollection, and prayer, that you may behold with proper regard, reverence, and gratitude, and may fix in your hearts, the wonderful display which is about to be made of the divine power in your behalf, and that you may be meet to receive so great a favour as is now about to be conferred upon you.
They consecrated themselves by the external ceremony of washing their bodies and clothes and abstaining from sex. Internally and spiritually, they prepared their hearts and minds by prayer and focusing on the LORD.

The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus, has set us free from the law of sin and death?

But if you don't believe the "LAW" of the Spirit of Life that was in the Jesus "of the Bible" was God's Law, what can I say.
After musing on this subject a few more days I decided that the analogy of the law of the Spirit of life in
Christ Jesus being like the law of gravity is actually pretty good.

The Spirit of divine like in many places in the Word is depected as flowing water.
And water flows because of gravity.

I believe flowing water is used to signify the Spirit of life because God's life within us
is so spontaneous and constantly moving in and though the believer who taps into his spirit. Jesus stood and cried on the last
day of the feast to the inwardly thirsty people -

If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.
He who believes into Me, as the Scripture said, out of his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water.
But this He said concerning the Spirit, whom those who believed into Him were about to receive; for the Spirit was not yet, because Jesus had not yet been glorified. (John 7:37b-39)

The one river of the Spirit becomes a number of rivers [plural] all flowing into different parts
of a person's being - rivers of living water is Jesus Christ here as the Spirit which was "not yet" before
His resurrection.

But water needs the pull of gravity to flow. So this Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has a law like gravity causing water to flow down.

There is a river whose streams gladden the city of God,
The holy place of the tabernacles of the Most High. (Psalm 46:4)

Let him take the water of life freely.

Have you ever tried to help someone and he doesn't exactly appreciate it?

Have you ever tried to help someone and they don't exactly appreciate it?
I use to get upset when my wife would get credit for what I did. But as her husband I should be happy to make that sacrifice for her.

It is VERY hard to help people. A lot of what we consider to be help does more harm than good.

The gov has made changes and welfare is not what it use to be.

Transfiguration is, to me, the Exodus, greek for The Road Out.

To me, the life-giving spirit is what Jesus gave up on the cross, the ghost. The Holy Ghost. The Spirit. We know Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit. His Holy Spirit will to me is the self-directed wi of God that will never fail. His Holy Spirit is shared in union with the Father and the Son as one in being glorified and transfigured into the image of the Father.
I was seeking God and He lead me to Jesus, Jesus lead me to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit lead me back to Jesus and Jesus lead me back to God the Father. They all work together to help us understand the nature of God. So we can know the love of God and how good He is.

Did the elite democrats over-play their hand with these questionable Trump indictments? poll

He's getting off easy.

In Arizona and Michigan he's an "unindicted co-conspirator." More crimes he gets away with.

Jack Smith only put four charges on the insurrection indictment. There were more (of course) but he didn't want to make things too complicated.

He has so many charges and crimes they're getting selective.

The regular guy Democrats are underplaying their hand.

So many crimes, so little time. Sigh.

Prominent Catholics urge bishops, cardinals to declare Francis has ‘lost the papal office’ if he refuses to resign

Are you talking about the priest who’s a huge champion of gay rights?
That’s the one. But most Catholics do not keep up on Church news, etc. my sil, a devout Catholic has no idea.

My Thoughts on Trump's "Legal" Woes

Between Trump and Stormy, Kennedy and Marylyn, I would give the award to Clinton and Monica.
Even with Clinton and his impeachment.
I haven't heard about any locker room conversation?

Please share what you know, maybe w/ a link to reliable source
“I’m automatically attracted to beautiful women — I just start kissing them, it’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything," he said in the 2005 conversation. "Grab 'em by the xxxxx."

This was when all of his problems began when they released this.

How true are these words about the Evangelical Churches?

How true are these words about the Evangelical Churches?

Baptists are followers of the radical reformation.

Theological Liberalism Takes Over Mainstream Churches.

Conservative Christians Flock to Evangelical Churches (including Baptist).

I'd say these statements are generally true, but being that American Evangelicalism is applied to a diverse number of denominations and spiritual outlooks, there are exceptions to these statements sitting in pews within those kinds of Churches.

Are there churches that are more conservative and fundamentalist? If yes, which ones?

Are you asking about churches because you're seeking a church for yourself in which to worship, or are you a student looking for help with a school assignment? I'll answer the questions either way, but -- putting my professor's hat on -- make sure to cite the Christian Forums web site as a source in your paper (clearly marking and attributing any quotations) if this is a school assignment.

Denominations on the conservative side of the 19th/20th/21st century American Protestant schisms include:

Lutheran: Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod

Baptist: Southern Baptist Convention, Venture Church Network (formerly the Conservative Baptist Association of America), General Association of Regular Baptists

Reformed: Presbyterian Church in America (not to be confused with the PCUSA), Orthodox Presbyterian Church

Anglican: Anglican Church in North America

You might find the Wikipedia page on the Fundamentalist-Modernist Controversy (Fundamentalist–modernist controversy - Wikipedia) to be useful in your research. It gives a reasonably good overview of the history of the controversy, with a list of books and articles at the end for further reading. Once again, if this is for an assignment, cite your sources.

Y'know, PloverWing, I appreciate your frequent insights here on CF. I bet you're one heck of a professor at your university! :glowingstar:

And there were a confirmed 2,000 people there. It was a limited, invite-only engagement.

How will God judge Joab?

Joab's character is complex. He did a lot of good for David, but he also did some bad things. Solomon judged him in 1 Kings 2:
32 "The LORD will bring back his bloody deeds on his own head, because, without the knowledge of my father David, he attacked and killed with the sword two men more righteous and better than himself, Abner the son of Ner, commander of the army of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, commander of the army of Judah."
How will God judge Joab?
I don't know:
28 When the news came to Joab—for Joab had supported Adonijah although he had not supported Absalom—Joab fled to the tent of the LORD and caught hold of the horns of the altar.
In the end, he fled to the altar and died there.
34 Then Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up and struck him down and put him to death. And he was buried in his own house in the wilderness.
In contrast, 2 Kings 11:
1 When Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she proceeded to destroy the whole royal family.
King Ahaziah was the son of Athaliah. She took power by killing her grandsons.
Six years later, Jehoiada, the high priest, revealed Joash, the only surviving son of Ahaziah. Athaliah went to the temple and saw Joash being declared King of Judah. 2 Ch 23:
14b For the priest said, “Do not put her to death in the house of the LORD.” 15 So they laid hands on her, and she went into the entrance of the horse gate of the king’s house, and they put her to death there.
They did not kill Athaliah in the temple.
God will judge Athaliah harshly.

The Catholic Church used to teach There is no salvation outside of it.. not being taught by the Vatican today

My understanding is that VIRTUALLY no one can get into Heaven except through the Catholic Church. If someone makes it to Heaven without being (fully) Catholic, it is nonetheless through the auspices of the RCC that that person made it. Maybe a person looks at the RCC and is not against it but doesn't fully understand some things about it and so does not join. The person dies before he can join but has confessed his sins as best he could to Jesus, though without a priest... That person can be and likely is saved. But those who vehemently argue against the RCC and never bother to investigate its claims to be the Original... different story
We can always privately pray for those who died outside the Church. God exists outside of time and apply those prayers to them when they were living.

WILTON CARDINAL GREGORY ARCHBISHOP OF WASHINGTON D.C. CALLS OUT PRESIDENT BIDEN AS A CAFETERIA CATHOLIC!

I do not know.
Presbyterian Church is where he attends.

According to Google:

Many of the nation's largest mainline Protestant denominations – including the Episcopal Church, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the Methodists – also support abortion rights, although several of these churches temper this support with the call for some limits on when a woman can terminate her pregnancy.

SO I guess he does.

Interesting to note; he put Conservative Catholics on the Supreme Court. Thank goodness.
I read that he was nondenominational. Either way, I doubt his church is ok with multiple divorces, wives and cheating.

Donald Trump indicted by Manhattan grand jury

Closing arugments could come as early as next week.

from today:
Michael Cohen will be the last prosecution witness in the case against former president Donald Trump, according to a sidebar transcript from earlier Tuesday. In the same discussion, Trump’s defense team signaled they may call no witnesses, but are still considering the possibility of calling an election law expert.
