Russia said on Sunday that U.S. lawmakers’ approval of $60.84 billion more in support for Ukraine showed that Washington was wading deeper into a hybrid war with Russia that would end in a humiliation on a par with Vietnam or Afghanistan.

President Vladimir Putin’s 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine has triggered the worst crisis in relations between Russia and the West since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, according to Russian and U.S. diplomats.

The U.S. House of Representatives on Saturday with broad bipartisan support passed a $95 billion legislative package providing security assistance to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, over bitter objections from some Republicans.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that it was clear that the United States wanted Ukraine “to fight to the last Ukrainian” including with attacks on Russian sovereign territory and civilians.

“Washington’s deeper and deeper immersion in the hybrid war against Russia will turn into such a loud and humiliating fiasco for United States as Vietnam and Afghanistan,” Zakharova said.

She said that ordinary Ukrainians were being “forcibly driven to slaughter as ‘cannon fodder’” but that the United States was now no longer betting on a Ukrainian victory against Russia.

The leaders of the West and Ukraine have cast the war in Ukraine as an imperial-style land-grab which shows that post-Soviet Russia is one of the top two biggest nation-state threats to global stability, alongside China.

Putin, though, presents the war as part of a much bigger struggle with the United States, which he says ignored Moscow’s interests after the 1991 Soviet collapse and then plotted to cleave Russia apart and grab its natural resources.

Public opinion has come to the same conclusion. It is difficult for Russians, especially those in authority, to conceive that in democracies policy is in part driven - and always influenced - by public perceptions. This might be because there has never been any lasting democracy there. They are just accustomed to a degree of docility.

Putin is as much in favour of Russian expansion as his predecessor Stalin and for the same reasons. Russia is only really vulnerable to foreign attack on its Western borders; Putin shares Stalin's paranoia; constantly on the alert for threats to their power and seeing danger where there is none.

Russia reckons the US got humiliated in Afghanistan?
Russia?
Do these people own a history book?

I also found that a bit odd. Russia can talk about Vietnam. But Afghanistan?

"Pursuant to the Geneva Accords of 14 April 1988, the Soviet Union conducted a total military withdrawal from Afghanistan between 15 May 1988 and 15 February 1989."

Basically the Soviet troops were not properly trained for the guerilla warfare tactics in the rugged mountains, which were the Afghani's back yard.
And I know, the Soviets also left weapons there, and lost many tanks, planes, and choppers.

East of Kabul.

Russia, also, lost a war in Afghanistan.

Kokav often presents pro-Russian articles and analysis.

A number of the points in the article, are standard Russian propaganda points.

I would like to see Christian analysis, not simply quoting Russian articles.

Oh Russia, you silly fools. What nonsense will you push today?
President Vladimir Putin’s 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine has triggered the worst crisis in relations between Russia and the West since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, according to Russian and U.S. diplomats.
This is certainly true.
The U.S. House of Representatives on Saturday with broad bipartisan support passed a $95 billion legislative package providing security assistance to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, over bitter objections from some Republicans.
Yep, that too. So far, American reporting is holding up it's end.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that it was clear that the United States wanted Ukraine “to fight to the last Ukrainian” including with attacks on Russian sovereign territory and civilians.
Was she sober? Maria's done pressers completely sloshed earlier in this war.
“Washington’s deeper and deeper immersion in the hybrid war against Russia will turn into such a loud and humiliating fiasco for United States as Vietnam and Afghanistan,” Zakharova said.
So now we know where reporters got this claim.
She said that ordinary Ukrainians were being “forcibly driven to slaughter as ‘cannon fodder’” but that the United States was now no longer betting on a Ukrainian victory against Russia.
That's two weird bits of spin. Ukraine has clearly been more careful of the lives of its soldiers, while this claim about US not "betting on Ukrainian victory" is just a figment of her addled mind.
The leaders of the West and Ukraine have cast the war in Ukraine as an imperial-style land-grab which shows that post-Soviet Russia is one of the top two biggest nation-state threats to global stability, alongside China.
Because it is.
Putin, though, presents the war as part of a much bigger struggle with the United States, which he says ignored Moscow’s interests after the 1991 Soviet collapse and then plotted to cleave Russia apart and grab its natural resources.
To quote a song by Stephen Stills: "Paranoia it strikes deep. Into your mind it will creep. It starts when you're always afraid."

Just stop fearing everyone is out to get you Vlad Vladimirovich, accept that Russia is not the same power it was under the Soviet guise and act like a decent nation rather than an imperial bully.
Thanks for the link, but the editors at CNBC need to stop writing articles based on the claims of Putin's spokesdrunk.

You are doing it for free? How unamerican!

But if I did it for payment that would make me a bourgeois capitalist! Not to mention the government might get upset.

To be honest, I would hope the war either stop, or Jesus return again and put a stop to all war.

That would be nice.

All that needs to happen is for the Russian troops to go back to Russia and for proper reparations made to Ukraine. Then the International Court could investigate the atrocities committed by Russian forces and the war criminals brought to justice. Simple.

I won't be expecting divine intervention.
