We seem to have wandered off the topic.

Republicans need to explain when they learned the truth about Alexander Smirnov

Were GOP lawmakers played the fool by Russia, or were they in on their "informant’s" claims?

New Transcript: Star Hunter Biden Witness Refuted Every GOP Talking Point

Hunter Biden’s former business partner, Devon Archer, undermined all of Republicans’ claims in his testimony.

Hunter Biden Laptop Story Suspected by U.S. Intelligence To Be Russian Disinformation

The document Jim Jordan refers to is an open letter signed by 51 intelligence experts and directors about the Hunter Biden story.

The letter stated that these former intelligence officials, based on their past experience, had serious concerns that the laptop had the potential to be linked to Russian disinformation efforts.

But it also did not make a determination on if the reported contents of the laptop were genuine, and said they had no evidence to link Russia with the story.

"We want to emphasize that we do not know if the emails, provided to the New York Post by President Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, are genuine or not, and that we do not have evidence of Russian involvement—just that our experience makes us deeply suspicious that the Russian government played a significant role in this case," the letter said.

The letter also stated that if the laptop reveal were part of a Russian disinformation effort it would be "consistent with Russian objectives...to create political chaos in the United States and to deepen political divisions here but also to undermine the candidacy of former Vice President Biden and thereby help the candidacy of President Trump."

Comer: Criminal referrals in Biden probe could come ‘within weeks’

[Might as well schedule them for late October, because we all know there's so little there there, that it will evaporate in days.]

Numerous GOP colleagues have said they have not seen enough evidence to support impeaching the president, while Democrats have pushed Comer to name a crime he believes President Biden has committed.

“You have not identified a single crime,” Raskin [D] said while visibly annoyed and raising his voice.

“What is the crime you want to impeach Joe Biden for and keep this nonsense going? Why? What is the crime? Tell America right now. What is the crime?”

Comer responded, “You’re about to find out.”

Comer responded, “You’re about to find out.”
Kinda like "I'm about to release my income tax returns?" I get it. He's channeling Donald Trump.

Comer is in a corner, where nothing he tried turned out well for him. None of his "whistle-blowers" testified what he wanted them to say. No facts support his claims. So he's promising soon we'll find out.

REP. JAMIE RASKIN: You have not identified a single crime. What is the crime that you want to impeach Joe Biden for and keep this nonsense going? Why? What is the crime? Tell America right now!

REP. JAMES COMER: You're about to find out!

REP. JAMIE RASKIN: What is the crime?

REP. JAMES COMER: You're about to find out real soon!

REP. JAMIE RASKIN: Name it, we inhabit a propaganda experiment.

Keep beating him over the head with it, Jamie. Make it his brand.

Trump is actually IN TRIAL, and we, the public, are STILL waiting to hear what the federal crime is that he bootstrapped to his expired state misdemeanor, that Bragg refuses to articulate and that he is not authorized to prosecute anyway.

So yeah...I get it.

Comer's already admitted that there just isn't evidence for Joe Biden committing crimes:

"The math keeps getting worse": James Comer admits he may have to give up on Biden impeachment probe

And still no evidence of a crime by Joe Biden:

Asked whether he would be able to prove the outrageous claim about the president, Mr Comer hesitated.

Pressed further by Hannity, he finally replied: “I sure hope so. And I do believe that there’s a lot of smoke and when there’s smoke, there’s fire”.

No evidence has emerged to support the allegations, which first gained traction in Republican circles when former president Donald Trump attempted to use US military aid to blackmail Ukraine’s president into announcing sham investigations into the Bidens on the eve of Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign.

According to New York Representative Daniel Goldman, Archer, the former business associate of the president’s son, said Hunter Biden had a habit of putting his father on speakerphone during meetings with potential business partners, but he stressed that the then-vice president never discussed any business matters and only answered the phone to say hello to his son and engage in general pleasantries.

Read the indictment.

Will Comer and his cohorts find an October surprise? He might just be served one himself.

We already know why President Joe Biden was not charged: "Special counsel Robert Hur has declined to prosecute President Joe Biden for his handling of classified documents but said in a report released Thursday that Biden’s practices “present serious risks to national security” and added that part of the reason he wouldn't charge Biden was that the president could portray himself as an "elderly man with a poor memory" who would be sympathetic to a jury. Biden won't be charged in classified docs case; special counsel cites instances of 'poor memory'

If he is too old to be charged, he is too old to be President, with the nuclear codes.

has nothing to do with the "Biden crime family" matters that Comer is investigating.
You inadvertently cut off what Hur said:

Me: "Special counsel Robert Hur has declined to prosecute President Joe Biden for his handling of classified documents but said in a report released Thursday that Biden’s practices “present serious risks to national security” and added that part of the reason he wouldn't charge Biden was that the president could portray himself as an "elderly man with a poor memory" who would be sympathetic to a jury.

Hur got into a lot of evidence about Biden, and it is a Special Counsel's judgment that a conviction will not come due to the factors listed, that Biden is an "elderly man with a poor memory" precisely why he should not be President now, or again.

Hur was being a good republican appointee, and while he couldn't find any crimes Biden had done, he felt compelled by party loyalty to add something outside of his ability to determine. Like Comer, he did the best he could with what he had. But a more honest assessment came from the House republicans who admitted that Biden outsmarted them.

Would you like to see that, again? And granted that while none of them are in danger of qualifying for a Nobel prize, Kevin McCarthy is no dummy.

And he got outsmarted by Biden, one-on-one.

And many people who are qualified to make determinations of mental competence have remarked on Donald Trump's ongoing cognitive decline:
There is "overwhelming" evidence that Donald Trump is suffering from dementia, a leading psychiatrist has claimed, amid speculation about the state of the former president's mental health.

Dr. Lance Dodes, a supervising analyst emeritus of the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute and retired Harvard Medical School professor, was among those recently quoted by Duty To Warn, which describes itself as an association of mental health professionals concerned about Trump.

"Unlike normal aging, which is characterized by forgetting names or words, Trump repeatedly shows something very different: confusion about reality," he wrote in a statement published on Friday, which referenced Trump's confusing Barack Obama with Joe Biden.

Unlike Hur, Dodes actually knows what he's talking about. And he specifically points out specific symptoms of Trump's decline into dementia. While all older people have memory lapses, this is not the same thing as being unable to function effectively, as Trump now cannot do.

Can you imagine what would happen if Trump was required to debate Biden? I expect that Trump, having been trounced by Bide once...

... will likely be prevented by his handlers from trying it again, in his present state of mind.

Today's winner. Should have been "indictments", though.
Not exactly a winner. My comment was last week: what sort of gymnastics did Bragg go through to revive an expired misdemeanor at max?

Well let's see: In New York, in order for the charge of falsifying business records to be bumped up to a felony, one must commit the crime of falsifying business records when the “intent to defraud includes an intent to commit another crime or to aid or conceal the commission thereof.

Ok. Trump - who did NOT do the bookkeeping, but someone at the organization did that job - “From August 2015 to December 2017, the Defendant [Trump] orchestrated a scheme with others to influence the 2016 presidential election by identifying and purchasing negative information about him to suppress its publication and benefit the Defendant’s electoral prospects,” according to the statement. “In order to execute the unlawful scheme, the participants violated election laws and made and caused false entries in the business records of various entities in New York."

How did he violate election laws? He "cooked up a scheme (such a mastermind!, heh) to catch and kill potentially damaging stories like EVERY POLITICIAN EVERWHERE. Remember John Edwards, a Democratic candidate who had to drop out of the Presidential race because he could not keep a lid on his affair with Rielle Hunter, since they had that inconvenient child?
Hur was being a good republican appointee, and while he couldn't find any crimes Biden had done, he felt compelled by party loyalty to add something outside of his ability to determine. Actually, in reality, Hur is well-known for his integrity, and he spoke the truth. He was required by the process. to state why he was finding it wasn't worth it to file charges. If you don't know how this works, it's best to look into it, instead of repeat MSNBC level talking points.

Others won't bother with Joe Biden. He's going to walk. He is protected.

It's ok. It is not over until it's over. It is just imperative to get Biden out of an office for which he is not qualified nor competent.

How did he violate election laws?
NEW YORK (AP) — Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer and fixer, pleaded guilty Tuesday to campaign-finance violations and other charges, saying Trump directed him to arrange the payment of hush money to porn star Stormy Daniels and a former Playboy model to fend off damage to his White House bid.

That is but one of many indictments. But of course, by law, if he paid off the woman for political advantage, he committed a felony. How can we know that? Because we have a conversation of Trump advising Cohen to slow-walk the payment until the election was over.

Well let's see: In New York, in order for the charge of falsifying business records to be bumped up to a felony, one must commit the crime of falsifying business records when the “intent to defraud includes an intent to commit another crime or to aid or conceal the commission thereof.
Different crime. I think you're confusing Trump falsifying the value of his properties to defraud banks and illegally cut his taxes.

How did he violate election laws? He "cooked up a scheme (such a mastermind!, heh) to catch and kill potentially damaging stories like EVERY POLITICIAN EVERWHERE. Remember John Edwards,
Yep. He was indicted for the same crime. He managed to convince a jury that he only did it to protect his family. Unfortunately for Trump, there's that conversation I just mentioned.

Actually, in reality, Hur is well-known for his integrity
"Integrity" would have been not making diagnoses that he was not professionally able to make. He did the best he could to help republicans, but he only besmirched his own character.

He was required by the process. to state why he was finding it wasn't worth it to file charges.
If so, he should have gotten professional help instead of making the diagnosis himself. And I'm pretty sure you know why he failed to do that.

Others won't bother with Joe Biden. He's going to walk.
Lack of evidence of a crime will do that for one. It's why Trump probably isn't going to walk. They have real evidence that Trump committed real crimes. I fully expect, for whatever criminal convictions might happen, his lawyers will try to show that his declining cognitive state meant he lacked the mens rea to be culpable for the crimes he committed.

It is not over until it's over.
Trump might walk, too. Sometimes it happens. But as Americans see more and more of Donald Trump's mind decaying, it might not matter.

But Cohen is a convicted perjurer. The FEC already declined this one. And Bragg has zero authority to try federal cases.
Nobody needs to try Cohen for a crime he's already confessed to.

This trial is about whether the business documents were falsified "to aid or conceal the commission" of that crime.
