Ryan Zink (not to be confused with the former Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke) is a fairly ordinary chum with a fairly ordinary "trespass + obstruction" case that he decided to take to trial (he has that right) except he apparently subpoenaed Reps. Kevin McCarthy, Gym Jordan, and MTG as witnesses.

Ryan Zink, who was convicted for his role in the Jan. 6 riot, lost the House Republican primary in Texas' 19th Congressional District to incumbent Jodey Arrington, NBC News projects.

[He came in 4th]

Former Trump adviser Peter Navarro ordered to report to prison

CNN —
Peter Navarro, a former trade adviser to President Donald Trump who was convicted of contempt of Congress, has been ordered to report to prison after a judge denied Navarro’s effort to stay out of prison while he appeals the conviction.

Appeals court denies Peter Navarro’s bid to avoid reporting to prison next week

Navarro, the judges said, “has not shown that his appeal presents substantial questions of law or fact likely to result in reversal, a new trial, a sentence that does not include a term of imprisonment, or a reduced sentence of imprisonment.”

New Mexico county commissioner and Cowboys for Trump founder removed from elected office for role in US Capitol riot

A New Mexico judge on Tuesday removed January 6 rioter and Cowboys for Trump founder Couy Griffin from his elected position as a county commissioner for his role in the US Capitol attack.

Supreme Court won’t review ruling that removed New Mexico official from office over January 6 insurrection

A state judge ruled that January 6 was an insurrection and that Griffin violated the oath he took as a commissioner by engaging in that insurrection. Griffin was disqualified under Section 3 and was removed in September 2022.

Is the difference that Griffin was convicted?
I think probably the key issue is that this was a state, rather than federal, office.

Nah, the difference was he's not Trump.

Everyone was correct.

Supreme Court refuses to delay prison time for Trump aide Peter Navarro

In a one-paragraph order, Roberts, who oversees emergency requests from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, said he saw no basis to disagree with an appeals court ruling last week that Navarro must serve time while his appeal is underway.

I was reminded recently that the subpoenas Navarro refused to respond to from Congress were 2 years ago (Mar/Apr 2022). Justice delayed is justice denied, Peter.

Self-professed 'patriot warrior' sentenced for role in violent Jan. 6 insurrection

A Colorado man who helped drag a police officer into the violent pro-Trump mob during the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection was sentenced Thursday to 63 months in prison for three felonies.

After the attack on the Capitol Sabol deleted texts and other communications from his cell phone. He also booked a flight to Zurich, Switzerland in an attempt to flee the United States. After he was unable to board the aircraft Sabol rented a car and drove to Westchester, New York, where he was arrested by the FBI Jan. 11, 2021.

He told officers he was wanted by the FBI after "fighting tyranny in the D.C. Capitol."

The DOJ said Sabol came to the Capitol with a helmet, a buck knife, a trauma kit and zip ties.

Sabol is a geophysicist.

It is nice to know that the wheels of justice are still grinding away, slowly and inexorably. (And thank you for these updates on this unfolding drama.)

At last it can be told...

Former RNC chair McDaniel calls January 6 Capitol attack ‘unacceptable’ after years of deflection

McDaniel, who is joining NBC News as a political analyst after exiting the RNC earlier this month, told the outlet that the Capitol riot “doesn’t represent our country. It certainly does not represent my party.”

“We should not be attacking the Capitol; we should not be having violence,” she added. Asked why she didn’t offer such condemnation as RNC chairwoman, McDaniel responded, “When you’re the RNC chair, you kind of take one for the whole team. Right now, I get to be a little bit more myself.”

[And if some players on the team like what happened on Jan 6, it's best to keep quiet about it for the good of the team.]

As RNC chair, she was involved in a phone call in 2020 to pressure Michigan county officials not to certify the vote from the Detroit area, where Joe Biden had a commanding lead. McDaniel told the officials, regarding the certification: “Do not sign it. … We will get you attorneys.”

McDaniel acknowledged Sunday that Biden won the 2020 election “fair and square” even as she voiced concern over “issues” with the vote. “I believe that both can be true,” she said.
