Nope, we do not want Sharia law, my brother. I'd rather have an agnostic as president. However, if this guy is not woke, maybe he could work? A non-woke Muslim would be a better president compared to a woke Catholic (Joe).

Disclaimer: I am Catholic
You prefer a sleeping president? How odd.

Ooh, I see your humor. Took me a few seconds to get the joke, brother, as it is getting late here, cos it is 11:11 PM in my timezone. :)

As in woke (being awake) and non-woke (sleeping). But yes, I mean a president who focuses on real issues (such as solving the environmental crisis, helping the poor, vetting immigrants fairly) instead of these identity politics being thrown around in 2024.

He does spend most of his time doing just those things. "identity politics" is a very small part (and I am granting, instead of arguing that terminology) of what he does. Of course the RW media would like you to think it consumes the majority of the President's time. Don't buy that.

I do have work tomorrow though, and need 9 hours of sleep ideally. I follow BBC, Reuters, The Guardian, AP, WSJ, NYT, Pew Research, some tech news websites (the Verge and a few others), and Christian media such as the Christian Post and Catholic News Agency. Yeah, the Christian Post is a little right-wing, but they do have some good things to say, as I am a Christian after all. It would be nice if folks spent 0% of their time on identity politics. Anything > 0% is a little much for me. Trust me, I'm a brown guy, and am tired of when folks bring identity into everything.

Who is your favorite democrat on this list? If there are none, which was the best democratic candidate alive today, and the best president who was democrat?

Best president who was a democrat...FDR.

Fetterman seems increasingly aware of the problems in his party and wants to fix them. He's unapologetically supportive of Israel even though he isn't winning any points with his constituents, and he spoke realistically about the border....saying that we can't fix the problem by condemning anyone who wants a real solution as a racist....but I suspect he'll be out of office soon.

For myself, I do not like any of them, though Pete seems like the safest option, as long as he does not mess with railways. Best Democrat in the past 50 years: Jimmy Carter (if it was not for the Iran crisis, ruining his career) was tame, while FDR (best Democrat in the past century) got us out of the recession and through a war.

Amen to that. FDR was the best Democrat ever. Fetterman seems like a halfway good guy also, and he is tall, at 6'8" (203 cm).

I think that "representation" is something we need to avoid

I have often said that I don't care what color a politician's skin is, or where he or she is from. I care that the ideology, policies, and goals are.

a white man can do much harm to me with bad ideology --voting for him simply because he is white is a really bad idea

Yeah the idea that a president should work for the betterment of those with their skin color is disgusting.

The only way a multicultural and multi racial society works is if those things don't matter. If they matter...or worse, we decide they matter a lot, then it's not obvious why I shouldn't seek the betterment of my race and culture to the detriment of all others....as should everyone else.

He appointed a lot of judges and other officials.

They were largely DEI hires. As much as officials say DEI has nothing to do with military recruitment issues, it's a different story from those leaving the military. Apparently, criticizing DEI can get you punished or demoted in the military now....so even if it is the problem, no one can say it.

Let's just be honest too....nothing was done to fix the border crisis till last June. Prices are up....and 10 million new poor don't help that. Crime is up....10 million new poor don't help that.

Saving the environment? Well let's see...

Let's say 1.5 million Guatemalans now live here. They went from a nation where they use an average of about 700kwh of energy, per capita, a year. In the US, assuming they stay and or survive...they will use on average 11,000 kwh per capita annually.

We quite literally have to end immigration just to make serious gains in environmental issues. As these people travel from nations with low energy consumption to nations with high energy consumption....any gains made by reducing consumption here will either be wiped out or severely diminished.

Joe Biden's choice of Kamala Harris as VP was one of the worst political decisions made by a presidential hopeful in US history.
Gee, why’s that?
The party is now stuck with the prospect of someone who is completely incompetent, unreliable, and downright dangerous running he country if Joe steps down. An admitted pot smoker, Kamala is frequently seen in public or on TV stoned and incoherent. She looks like Whitney Houston in the few years before her death
Wow, character assassination, in 2024! How quaint!

Harris has zero accountability --no one expects anything from her. She rarely shows up to meetings, can't be bothered with the border (probably doesn't remember being appointed "border czar"), doesn't understand policy, and hasn't even been included. She collects a check, and if anyone criticizes her, she labels them a racist

I’m going to guess she knows how to spell “potatoes“, though.
Harris as POTUS is a worldwide catastrophe
Like you were going to vote for the Democrats had she not been on the ticket?
the only option for the Democrats is to get Biden to announce he isn't running, and then get Gavin Newsom on the ballot. To somehow get him the money to run a national campaign. Doesn't mean he is a good candidate, but he looks like Thomas Jefferson next to Kamala Harris
He might not want the job?

Cos the identity politics stuff gets old real quick. We are all humans, so we do not need folks bringing up gender identities or race. Man = XY, Woman = XX. Simple as that, brother.

Stop discriminating on the basis of gender identification and race and the problem goes away

Well, for race, yes, the problem will go away, but for gender identity, we will just have to see what happens in the future. I am not liking where the gender stuff is going in 2024, due to my Christian faith, and my grounding in biology (XX, XY), but, I am working on not judging folks as much. However, I will not support the trans movement, ever.

What do you want to do about trans people? It sounds like you want them to stay in the closet just because they offend your religious beliefs.

I don't want to derail this thread, but the gender bending movement offends simple biology as well. :) No other mammal has ever gotten trans surgeries or have the technology to do so, so why should humans get them? It makes 0 sense. But, I will not judge a trans person, but I will not condone his/her actions.

Anyways, I have to get to the Catechism in a Year with Fr. Mike Schmitz. Have a good day, brother.

Alex it's your faith not your background in biology that is telling you this. Have you ever had yourself karyotyped? If not how do you know for sure that you are "XY"?

Anyway it's a minor irrelevance and nothing to get worked up about and force a choice for president.

Does your simple XX, XY biology account for those who fall outside the norms?
Such people do exist and should be factored into one’s opinions rubrics, (if only tangentially).

because she is incompetent, has insufficient leadership abilities, and even her own party dislikes her.

and I am happy to criticize the character of a person who is elected into a politically critical position simply because of their gender, skin color, and connections. Such actions puts all of us in danger, and undermines the country

"I’m going to guess she knows how to spell “potatoes“, though"

that is debatable

I have gotten myself a DNA test from Ancestry, but I am not sure if Ancestry karyotyped.

But, I do know that I have a plantain, and have facial hair, so I am a guy. I could pay to get my chromosomes analyzed, and it would probably be XY with 99% certainty. Faith and biology can go hand in hand for myself, but you make a point. But hey, if my Republican friend is voting Democrat this year, maybe I should bite my tongue and vote Democrat. Once this Trump mess is over in 2028 (if he passes away, or is in jail), then maybe I can vote 3rd party (Solidarity party, a centrist party) or for some center-right candidate until the woke stuff is over.
