Utah students can no longer bring personal copies of banned books to school [Lucky thing SLC reversed its ban on the Bible]

Learning valid subjects. Unless genderqueerology is on SATs these days, it's pretty useless.
I dont think schools should be "teaching gay" per se.

I just think that wherever hetero stuff happens to show up in the normal course of education, gay stuff ought to be allowed too.

Huh. Well, points for consistency. I disagree. I think weshould error on the side of more information rather then less.
It's not like a school library is a kid's only resource these days. As far as curriculum goes they should be plenty busy enough with standard courses. If their regular standard classes leave them with a lot of free time, they're not being taught enough.

Gay stuff has been made 100 times more complex than plain ol homosexuality. Therefore I think schools should just stick to teaching biology and reproduction.

Even at the risk it turns people gay?

Would that also include classics such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and To Kill a Mockingbird (which is often required to read in high school)?
What obscenity is in either of those books?

Did Atticus have a boy friend, or Tom and Huck have sex?

I don't see why that means we should limit the amount of books available. School, at least to my mind, should be were we are teaching kids to pursue information they are interested in and to think about it in a critical fashion. Not to artificially limit what they are allowed to view. That speaks to control and fear, not education.

That's not gong to convince most parents to allow homoerotica genderqueer et al books in school libraries. I know some people are determined for kids to be immersed in LGBTQQIP2SAA+ 'we're here we're queer, we're coming for your children' and all that, But tough noogies, it's not gonna happen. The drag queens need to be booted out too and stick to night clubs. Enough is enough.

Somehow I'm not finding the "Fear The Gays!!!" rhetoric a convincing reason to limit school libraries.

Do you really think most parents want eortica written for children in school libraries?
I think most Americans have no clue what is in school libraries. Especially those trying to ban certain books claiming they are "erotica". This is well evidenced by the groups who attempted to ban books in libraries in which the books were not present.

The biggest issue over books being banned right now is the banning of books like "All Boys Aren't Blue" and "Gender Queer" and similar which contain erotica written for children.

That aside do you expect school libraries to contain every book that's ever been written? Do you think they're all as big as the Library of Congress? Of the 239829825982598215 books in existence, a school library can only hold a very small percentage of that.

Which next gets us to, “well, who gets to decide?”, and we’re back to local politics again.

Government can’t be used to “fix society”, a lesson that both sides need to remember.
Yes. I agree.

The n-word, and the rape trial in To Kill a Mockingbird, are controversial.
God forbid schoolgirls should know anything about rape. Until it happens to them, of course.
