What is wrong with that?
Again, nothing at all. Just pointing out that most of the Vatican is gated and off limits to you and I.

The Vatican is the Pope’s home.
And he can have doors and have locks on the doors if he wants to. That’s OK. It’s also OK for the USA.

And? It has open borders. Having an ancient wall doesn't change that.
Try taking advantage of that ‘open border’ to visit the Vatican Gardens’. Just try it.

Just so you can see how open the Vatican borders really are.
And? It is factual. The Vatican welcomes all to come in and visit. People are free to walk around any unrestricted areas. Homan's remark just reveals his ignorance.

Just try and walk around the Vatican and see how ignorant Mr. Homan is. Sure, you can get into the Vatican Museum with an expensive ticket after passing through a metal detector. Sure you can get into St. Peter's if you get your ticket and go through security. Sure you can get into the square after you pass through security. You might be able to get to the Vatican Post Office. But step out of bounds and see what happens. Your remarks only show your ignorance. You can go and visit some parts of the Vatican. For the rest, you will be caught. All sorts of people with tourist visas can come to the USA and go to 99.9% of this country. We are less restrictive in that than the Vatican. But here we have functionally open borders and the pope telling us how evil walls and gates are when he has walls and gates and the security to back them up. It's a double standard.

He didn't say that walls are evil. They are objects not capable of being evil.

He was talking about people. "a person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian. This is not in the Gospel."

It's not as much about what you do but why you do it. "Thinking" reveals why a person does something, to God.

Building walls to defend against invasion, as the Catholic Church did, is not about keeping people out because the Church opened its gates when the threat of invasion was over.

The evil that Pope Francis was speaking about was in thinking "only" about keeping people out, instead of opening things up for people in need. This is not the Gospel.

Interesting read though I disagree that the Pope has been inconsistent in how he has treated each administration.

Huh?

Pope Francis has been VERY inconsistent in how he has treated Joe Biden and Donald Trump. For Biden it was 'keep up the good work' with the most abortion friendly president we have ever had. With Trump the pontification was actually quoted by you two posts up.

That reply certainly doesn't surprise me. One has to listen, open to the Spirit, to understand the nuances of how spiritual people, such as Pope Francis, speak on matters of Christian mercy.

Hah! Walls aren't evil because they are mere objects. Right.
He was talking about people. "a person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian. This is not in the Gospel."
So if you don't think about building walls you are OK? Here pope Francis basically said Trump is not a Christian. I don't know whether he is or not, but the pope seems to know.

Whatever. The Vatican has walls and if you would climb over one you would be in a heap of trouble. Pope Francis needs to 'think about' the walls he has around him and how inconsistent he is when he chides others who want to build a wall.

That's too much nuance for me. A 'nuanced' position that turns a blind eye to Biden's abortion position but jumps on those who want to actually have border security in their country. I'm just not 'spiritual' enough for that.

It’s just a load of malarkey we both know that. The nonsense has to be ignored at some point.
