I think all piercings are gross. Same goes for tattoos. Basically, those kinds of superficial adornments are done for the purpose of gaining attention by doing things that are superficial and easy. Changing your personality to become a more interesting and happy person is much more difficult than jamming a metal spike through your tongue. Plus, metal crap hanging out of your your skin looks "tough" and "mean" to some people, which is a look that some people are going for. Which means that they're posers, since you could always change your personality to become a genuinely more tough and mean person, but, again, that takes much more effort.
Gee maybe some should put their effort into not judging and to not generalize all people who get piercings and tattoos. Maybe some should get a clue and think outside the box. That might help. Especially for you and your personality.

Gee, I'm sorry. I take back everything I said and now my opinion completely matches yours. Thinking for myself and having my own opinions is bad!

Didn't say that.

Judging people by their looks I think is bad. You obviously have no problem doing that. (along with bunches of other people). Following the herd like a bunch of other people and judging someone for their piercings/tattoos is not thinking for yourself.

Wow wow wow! A thread about tongue piercings got hostile very fast. People shouldn't take things so personally. It's like this - when I wear my pentagram necklace out in public, sure, it would be nice if parents wouldn't snatch their kids up and walk away or stare at me or tell me to my face I'm wearing "the devil's symbol". That would be nice, but it isn't reality. I have to know when and where it is appropriate to wear such jewelry. Appropriate - to the local Pagan book shop. Not appropriate - to my husband's family reunion where I would be surrounded by devout Foot Washin' Baptists. In similar surroundings (like in the Pagan book shop) obviously I'm in good company. Everywhere else it's open season. Some people respond positively. Others assume I'm a devil worshiper and don't even bother to ask me what the pentagram means. That's just the way life is. If someone said, "I think pentagrams are tacky", well, that's their call. I always try and be the bigger person by not letting it get to me. Have I ever been angered or hurt by someone's careless judgment? Of course! But, I had to realize that everyone is going to associate different things with certain character traits.

Some people assume that tongue piercings and tattoos go hand-in-hand with a "loose morality" sort of lifestyle - and that's okay. They can think that way. I can't really accuse them of being narrow-minded because, perhaps, those same people are more open to something that I'm closed-minded about. No need for anyone here to get indignant about the issue. It's a piece of metal that goes through your tongue. If you have one and you like it, great. Wear it and accept the stigma that comes along with it. If you think they're gross, then great. Don't get one. It's really that simple.

Neither do you, you just have different criteria. You like piercings and tattoos. Rad. I don't like them. Rad. No one said we had to like the same things.

I got my tongue pierced several years ago. I don't remember why I wanted it, but I did. Now, I wouldn't want to take it out because when I did a few months ago (my jewelry broke) I felt weird and couldn't speak properly. I'm used to it now and I will probably have it when I'm an old lady.

Well actually this may sound weird but I don't judge people on their looks because I could care less about looks (hair, clothes, piercings/no piercings etc--and yes I am human :p ) honestly. It is possible even though some have stated its not. I hang out and talk to people from all different kinds of groups of people.

It's funny how we get used to things like that, huh?

Mine is tilted towards the back of my mouth so most of the time no one even sees iii which is particularly handy at my kid's soccer practice. ^_^

It does sound weird because I think everyone is a visual person. Don't you think some boys are cuter than others? I know you're trying to be charitable and kind toward other people, but there's nothing wrong with admitting that you like the way some people look!

Just wondering who has a tongue piercing, how do you feel about it?

Don't have my tongue pierced, and would never do something like getting my tongue pierced, getting a tattoo, etc. It seems like everyone and their mother has a tattoo or an abnormal piercing these days.

Can't someone do something more original like branding?
