Yes, I've been asked some of these very same questions over the years of my relationship with Jesus, mostly from neighbors and even some family members.

I take the opportunity to give testimony of my own life with Jesus. Honestly, the unsaved person cannot receive or understand the things that are of the Spirit.

1 Corinthians 2:14 "The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned."

Let this scripture comfort you when people ask you these things. God is in control and only He can open their understanding to Himself. Also, keep with your testimony even if they don't listen or receive it. Bearing witness to the truth has nothing to do with US winning someone over. We may never win someone over, but if you are being obedient to the Truth (which is Jesus), then you are already the victor! We bear witness to the truth and yes, there will be some that will never hear. But, our job is to be faithful with the Trust we have been given, despite their questionings and the persecution that comes with it.

Just remember to stand on what you know you have with Jesus, whether they receive it or not. Their lack of receiving it does not change what you have with Jesus, brother, so do not lose heart! Remember, apart from the Spirit, they WILL NOT understand. If Jesus chooses to open their hearts to believe, THEN they will.

Acts 16:14 says, "One of those listening was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul's message."

So, continue in your testimony and wait on the Lord to open hearts.

blessings!

The reason why folks ask so many questions is to distract themselves from having to deal with Christ and His claims. The questions are nothing but walls they throw up to hide behind in order to keep from being forced to do busniess with Christ. Press them with the claims of Christ and don't even bother with their questions. They aren't really looking for answers they are just hiding behind them.

The vast majority of the time this is exactly the case. Any distraction from the crux of the matter is a relief because personal inadequacy doesn't have to be dealt with and it is then directed somewhere else, anywhere else.

I don't see "Why don't Christians have a sense of humor?" on the list! ^_^

In all seriousness, I think most of those questions are based on either total ignorance, or complete sarcasm so as to nitpick about the imperfections in the world of Christianity. Some of them are stereotypes that people of the world like to put on Christians. They mistakenly see us as all alike when the truth of the matter is that we are all different in many ways. All in an effort to make fools of us.

But in the end, the joke is on them. Yes, I'm kidding.... but on the square.

11. If there is a God why does He let people do bad things?

I can't possibly count how many times I've heard this one (and other similar questions). I try to tell "those inquiring minds" that it is not God's fault that people make wrong choices. I usually don't have a response after that (although I'm still not sure if I really got through to them, or not).

I can honestly say that I've never heard #6 before. People really say that? Yikes.

Why does it frustrate you to be able to explain the misconceived premise that forms the very basis of each one of those arguments?

It would seem to be a great opportunity to share the way Christ has worked in your life with someone.
Yep, and more importantly, it's an opportunity to share the Gospel.

The reason why folks ask so many questions is to distract themselves from having to deal with Christ and His claims. The questions are nothing but walls they throw up to hide behind in order to keep from being forced to do busniess with Christ. Exactly. This is how Christ handled such opposition. He got right to the heart of the matter and would not be side-tracked. Important for us to remember IRL and on forums.

I agree with the person who said these questions are just a smoke screen.

Sometimes, when I preach out in the park, people want to ask questions and the one question I get without fail is "But what about the pygmies in Bora Bora who have never heard of Jesus". I just explain to them that before we can address those who haven't heard the Gospel, that we first need to address those who have heard the Gospel, such as themselves.

But, because I have too much free time...

1. What happens when you get bored in heaven?

Why would we ever be bored in Heaven? Heaven is a place of infinite opportunities and fellowship. The popular misconception is that we'll be sitting on clouds playing harps all day, but nothing could be further from the truth. We will judge angels, we will reign with Christ, we will have endless creative possibilities, we will have fellowship with God, Himself.

2. So… only Christians will be saved?

Yes, as long as we understand that it isn't Christianity that saves, but that Christ's atonement saves and Christianity is our response to our salvation.

3. There’s no sex in heaven?

No. Why would there be? Don't get me wrong, sex between a man and wife is a terrific thing, but in the Bible, sex is only an illustration of the intimacy we will have with Christ. Why do we need something to tell us about the intimacy we will have when we will already have that intimacy?

4. Did you know Adolph Hitler was a Christian?

No he wasn't.

First of all, all politicians pander to whatever group they're speaking to. Hitler was no different. If he was speaking to Christians, then he used imagery that appealed to Christians. If he was speaking to Socialists, then he used imagery that appealed to Socialsists. And so on.

So we have one or two quotes that Hitler made that, at face value, would make it appear that Hitler was, at the very least, sympathetic to Christianity.

However, we have far more quotes that show that Hitler was not a Christian, hated Christianity, and, in fact, was a pagan who believed in occultic religious practices.

5. If God loves everyone how come He'll be sending some people to hell?

Because love isn't God's only trait. God is loving, yes, but He is also holy and righteous and just.

6. You do know Judas Iscariot and Cain became vampires right?

I don't even know what that means.

7. Why are Christians so obsessed with the bible?

Two reasons. The first is that when you love someone, you have a desire to communicate with them and hear from them.

The second is that the Bible contains our instructions from God.

8. Did you know God murdered children during the Flood and at
Sodom/Gomorrah?

Murder is man assuming God's perogative to take life so, by definition, God cannot murder, since God owns our lives and can give or take them as He pleases.

9. Did you know Jesus truly had a sexual relationship with Mary
Magdalene?

The only "evidence" for this comes from extra-Biblical sources of dubious origin, long after the events allegedly took place. What makes this so ironic, of course, is that this is the same argument they use to try to disprove the Bible but they use it themselves, when it suits thier agenda.

10. If God is perfect why did He make Adam and Eve sin?

I would simply point out James 1:13-14, which says: "Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed"

11. If there is a God why does He let people do bad things?

Because people have free will.

12. If God is perfect why does He contradict Himself in the bible?

Give me your top three contradictions.

13. So… how do you know for certain Jesus wasn’t an ordinary man?

When was the last time you saw an ordinary man do the things Jesus did? When was the last time an ordinary man raised the dead or was raised from the dead?

14. You do know only human beings wrote the bible right?

Of course.

15. The bible has good stories… but you do know it’s old fashioned right?

Since when does "old fashioned" mean wrong or bad?

16. Did you know women can’t preach in church?

Yes.

17. Did you know women can’t wear pants in church?

Of course women can wear pants. We just ask that they're modest.

18. God does know that men have to practice with sex before marriage right?

Why do men have to do this?

19. You do know that people who read the bible are easy targets?

Easy targets for what?

20. Did you know that some preachers are pedophiles?

Yep.

21. My family member believes in Christ and he was still mean. [no
question but still…]

First of all, believing in Christ doesn't make one a Christian.

Second, some people are mean. Even Christians.

22. How come Christians only dress nice on Easter?

Good question. I've brought this one up here many times and have been called every name in the book for suggesting that Christians should honor God by the way they dress.

23. How come Christians don’t write any more new stories in the bible?

Because the canon is closed.

24. Did you know Christians have committed the most persecutions in history?

No, actually, Communism is responsible for far more persecution that Christians ever dreamed of.

25. Why are Christians so strict? [my personal favorite :( ]

I don't think Christians are all that strict.

I must be doing something wrong, most of these I have never heard before. I have heard 2,4,5,8, and 11. And, I am totally bewildered by #6. The rest of them, I have never encountered from unbelievers.

Good morning Dave,

You asked some very appropriate questions, however, I wonder, do you talk about your faith to others? The reason I ask, is that most of us who evangelize have come across these questions dozens of times, but we also understand why they are asked. You see, the Scriptures are clear that for those who are perishing, they don't understand. They ask, what seem to us to be silly questions, just as a child might ask what would seem like silly questions to an engineer who has studied all of his career to understand how to build bridges or tall structures. I'm guessing that you may be young, certainly in your faith, and so let me see if I can give you understanding of the questions that you ask.

You wrote:

1. What happens when you get bored in heaven?

Boredom is a sign of lost soul. We, in this life, feel that we must fill every minute of every hour with some 'fun' or 'enjoyment'. First thing to understand is that we are not going to live our eternal existence in heaven. Read the final two chapters of the Revelation. After God has poured out His wrath upon all of the unbelieving unrepentent people of the earth there will be a day of judgment. After that, those who have lived as God has asked us to live, will populate a new earth. We will live daily lives with others who believe just as we believe and worship and praise the God who created each of us. The earth will be just like it was in the beginning before sin entered in.

2. So… only Christians will be saved?

There will be a great number of even Christians who won't be saved. Only those who have been 'born again' will receive the promise of eternal life.
3. There’s no sex in heaven?

Again, we will not live in heaven. We will live on a new earth. I'm not sure that there won't be sexual relations in heaven, but I honestly don't see why there would be. However, it will not be something that we miss. Again, the ones who ask such a question think that sexual relations are most important to their happiness, but I'm faily confident that where we find our happiness in the eternal life, will not be the same as it is this life.

4. Did you know Adolph Hitler was a Christian?

Adolph Hitler was raised in a 'Christian' structure, but he was obviously not a 'born again' believer. This is a problem that many unbelievers are unable to understand, the fact that people go to a worship service regularly doesn't make them 'born again' believers.

5. If God loves everyone how come He'll be sending some people to hell?
Because the unrepentent sinner cannot live with the Holy. You see, my friend, the life lived where sinners and saints all get to live together is the life that we are living now.

6. You do know Judas Iscariot and Cain became vampires right?
I'd ask anyone that posed this question to me to provide some reason for such a belief.

7. Why are Christians so obsessed with the bible?

Because the Scriptures are the revelation that God has given to all mankind to know him. Outside of the Scriptures, there is no way for man to know God. He can, as Paul wrote to the Romans, surely have some conviction that there is a God just by looking at the creation, but he can't know that God without knowing Him through the Scriptures. Secondly, without the Scriptures we cannot know who Jesus is. There is no natural thinking of anyone's mind that would lead them to believe that salvation comes through God's Son, without the Scriptures.

8. Did you know God murdered children during the Flood and at
Sodom/Gomorrah?

I wouldn't say murdered, but if that is what they choose to call it, then they may do that. God poured out His wrath upon the wickedness of those whom He had created and destroyed, murdered, killed all living things that moved about the ground. He has and will continue to do this until the day of judgment.

9. Did you know Jesus truly had a sexual relationship with Mary
Magdalene?

No, and again, I would ask for any Scriptural reference of such an idea. This question has come about because of the recent movie accusing of such.

10. If God is perfect why did He make Adam and Eve sin?

He didn't 'make' Adam and Eve sin. He allowed that there was a choice that they had to make.

11. If there is a God why does He let people do bad things?
The Scriptures give a very good answer to this. In the parable of the wheat and tares we are told how the righteous and the wicked are presently being allowed to grow and live together. Peter then tells us why this is so. Because God is being patient with mankind and His patience will allow some to repent and believe.

12. If God is perfect why does He contradict Himself in the bible?
Again, I'd have to ask for verification that God says any contradictions. Are there accounts of things that people do that may be contradicted, perhaps, but God, as far as I am aware, never speaks any contradiction.

13. So… how do you know for certain Jesus wasn’t an ordinary man?

Faith.

14. You do know only human beings wrote the bible right?
God used the pens of men to write His revelation of Himself through His Holy Spirit.

15. The bible has good stories… but you do know it’s old fashioned right?

Well, if by 'old fashioned' you mean that it is old, surely! If, by 'old fashioned' you mean that it no longer applies, then you'd have to take that up with God. One also needs to understand the change of the plan from the OT to the NT. Not everything written in the OT applies to the 'born again' believers life today.

16. Did you know women can’t preach in church?

Yes, Paul instructs that women should not teach in the church.

17. Did you know women can’t wear pants in church?

No, that's a manmade concept. The only instruction of clothing for any believer, male or female, is that it be modest.

18. God does know that men have to practice with sex before marriage right?

No, God does not know this and any half-wit can see the multitude of problems that arise from such a belief.

19. You do know that people who read the bible are easy targets?

Easy targets for what?

20. Did you know that some preachers are pedophiles?

All preachers are sinners, just as everyone else. The Scriptures do account that God holds them to a higher standard and He will visit justice upon those who defame His name.

21. My family member believes in Christ and he was still mean. [no
question but still…]

One would have to find out what the family member understands as 'believing' in Christ. As I have previously pointed out, going to worship service doesn't get one's name written in the 'Lamb's Book of Life'.

22. How come Christians only dress nice on Easter?

Quite frankly, this is also a sign of a false piety. As for myself, rarely ever 'dress up' for worship. I'm a jeans and t-shirt kind of guy.

23. How come Christians don’t write any more new stories in the bible?
The 'revelation' is complete. God has said all that He needs to say to mankind. It is now the time of God's patience.

24. Did you know Christians have committed the most persecutions in history?

Again, one needs to separate a 'Christian' from a 'born again' believer. While it is true that there were a couple of periods in the history of Europe in which people of the world claim that 'Christians' were persecuting them, I'm absolutely confident that these were not 'born again' believers, but pretenders who were then and have continued to defame the work of our Lord.

25. Why are Christians so strict? [my personal favorite ]

I don't know that 'Christians' are so strict. 'Born again' believers know that God has called them to live apart from those who are lost. Peter writes about it in his first letter:

Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin. As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do--living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry. They think it strange that you do not plunge with them into the same flood of dissipation, and they heap abuse on you. But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

Just as Peter writes, the lost, think it strange that the 'born again' believer doesn't plunge headlong into the flood of sin that is so rampant. For this, we are called 'strict'.

Hope this adds to your aresenal of answers.

God bless you.
In Christ, Ted.
