Last month on National Women's Day, President Trump declared himself to be the "fertilization president". Here are a few proposals being discussed:

- reserve 30 percent of scholarships for the Fulbright program, the prestigious, government-backed international fellowship, for applicants who are married or have children.

-give a $5,000 cash “baby bonus” to every American mother after delivery.

-fund programs that educate women on their menstrual cycles — in part so they can better understand when they are ovulating and able to conceive.

Aren't Fullbright Scholarships meant for Americans to study abroad?
To me, someone who is married or have children are kind of the least likely to apply.
Never mind the problem of a group who disdain "set asides" for specific groups enacting "set asides".

I suggest the president look at reasons 5 and 6 in this Forbes article.

I certainly look at the world, and our country, as being on a precipice now, and how will children fare?

$5,000 isn't the quick fix the current president thinks it is. For many young people, only his exit from the national stage, accompanied by his Project 2025 staffers, will make the future hopeful again.

5. ‘I Just Don’t Feel Financially Stable Enough’

It’s nearly impossible to discuss delaying parenthood without mentioning money; even individuals who want kids may feel like they simply can’t afford them. The cost of housing, healthcare, education and everyday childcare continues to rise — and for people already living paycheck to paycheck, the mere thought of adding a dependent can be terrifying.

“The cost of raising a child, as perceived by potential parents, is sometimes greater than their current financial capabilities,” the authors note.

Again, this is more than just a self-absorbed concern; it’s both warranted and necessary. In today’s day and age, all prospective parents should give thought to the kind of life they’re capable of giving to a child. In doing so, a greater question often naturally follows: What if I can’t give them what they need? What if they suffer because I wasn’t financially ready?

6. ‘Is This Even The Right World To Bring A Child Into?’

Finally, there’s the question that more and more people are asking: Would it even be ethical to bring a child into this world?

Climate change, war, political polarization, total economic collapse — the general unpredictability of the future can all weigh heavily on people who are thinking about becoming parents.

Considering the state of global headlines in the last few weeks, it’s only natural to worry about what kind of world your child-to-be would inherit. No matter how much you’d like to have a child, it can still feel wildly unfair to leave them — and the rest of their generation — to cope with the aftermath of it all.

The researchers acknowledge these fears, too. “There are also themes of the uncertainty and instability of the current political situation, the threat of war and climate change,” they explain. “This may show the role of values related to responsibility for the safety and health of offspring.”

Perhaps Trump could speed up the one year wait or more on fiancé visas to the USA. There are other immigration policies too that prevent births. If one marries a U.S. citizen there should be easier ways to arrive or stay in the country.

Maybe we can give moms a little medal if they produce at least 4 healthy Americans.

Classes

  • 1st class, Gold Cross: eligible mothers with eight or more children
  • 2nd class, Silver Cross: eligible mothers with six or seven children
  • 3rd class, Bronze Cross: eligible mothers with four or five children

Marriage is no guarantee of fertility or intention to reproduce, clearly confirmed pregnancy should be the standard. The domestic supply of infants must be maintained!

Instead of listening to women about what would incentivize starting or growing a family they come up with a bunch of ideas that don’t address their concerns.

"...fund programs that educate women on their menstrual cycles — in part so they can better understand when they are ovulating and able to conceive": While I'm all for good sex education, I think most of us understand our menstrual cycles pretty well already. Many people use this knowledge to help avoid conception, in fact.

I think one possibility for increasing family size could be a cultural shift, to a culture in which men take on as much of the work of parenting as women. Pregnancy itself can't be delegated to fathers, but the rest of the work could be shared: daily child care, fussy sleepless nights, doctors' appointments, groceries and cooking, housecleaning, driving to soccer matches and piano lessons, etc. Parenthood is extra-hard if one of the parents has to do most of the work. I'm not surprised that many women are saying "no".

I doubt that a cultural shift like this can be mandated through an executive order or through tax legislation, however. There are limits to what the government can do.

You can even get an app to track your cycle. But women are afraid to use it because they fear the government might ascertain an early miscarriage as something else and bring the morality police to their door.
And that fear of being charged of crimes when nature has taken its course has also driven med students away from OB/GYN. Another problem for Trump's plan.

I was going to suggest that, instead of a bronze oak leaf cluster for each subsequent award, you get a bronze diaper. You could get a C device for a cesarean and a V device for… the normal way.

But then I clicked your link and … oh boy.

In any specific individual you are right, but in the total group is is very clear that immigration helps total fertility, and the replacement rate for population in the USA. Here is the group evidence.

Total fertility rates among U.S. immigrants are slightly higher the total for the non-immigrants. The Impact of Immigration on U.S. Fertility
Total fertility rates are also higher in non-married versus married within the USA. Some Good News About Married Fertility in the U.S.
"...the beneficiary (foreigner) median age was 30" for both married and engaged USA visa recipients.
So yes, unless the patterns changed, immigrants would add to the total fertility rate. Age Difference/Age Gap - RapidVisa®
In fact the only reason us replacement rate of people has not declined more rapidly is due to immigration. Fertility in the United States Is Below Replacement

Clearly we need to modify the set up Gambia has going but with male foreigners. Can’t be blocking fertility!

Gambia has only about 25k immigrating each year to the USA. Likely most of those are family members, I doubt very many are coming on fiancé visas. If you wanted higher fertility rates, Trump could fast track those of child bearing age within a marriage or fiance visa category.

There’s a trend of older English women traveling there for sex with the local men. Like I said, need to something like that but gender swapped and sans contraception. Fertility!

Not to mention couples struggling with infertility or the woman had multiple miscarriages through no fault of her own. It isn’t so black and white, eh?

All about fertilization, all things standing in the way must be removed. Populate or perish!

I am so confused on what is going on. Will these older English women have no rewards since they are probably past menopause? Someone enlighten me.
