I think that perhaps you are applying the wrong definition of "light" as it is used in the verse. This is not the light of the sun, nor is it the artificial light that comes from a light bulb. It is the light of the gospel of Christ. Those who believe the gospel of Christ and live by it are said to be walking in the light. As Christ walks in the light of His own glory, we walk in the light of His glory by believing and trusting in the gospel not only for our salvation, but for the rest of our Christian walk until we meet Him face to face.

Are you asking if it is a sin to stay up late? Why on earth would it be?
Jesus prayed through the night on at least one occasion and when he walked on water we are told it was the 4th watch of the night, Mark 6:48. William Barclay says that the 4th watch of the night was between 3 and 6 a.m.

If we are his children we are to walk in the light. It has nothing to do with natural light or night time.

Not understanding what? It is plain and simple. If staying up late at night was a sin, nobody would have a pass to work the so-called "graveyard shift" or have 24-hour rotatiing work schedules.

The "children of light" does not refer to the time one goes to bed. Just as the "arm of the Lord" does not refer to one of two appendages belonging to God. Should one go to bed early? I do, but then again I get up early. Some things are simply a matter of what is fitting or appropriate. I don't want the night-shift police officer napping, nor the cook at the lunch counter. Each in their own time.

It's not a SIN to stay up late.

Some, as mentioned earlier by another member, work all kinds of shifts (i've been there...believe me, it wasn't my preference) and some have insomnia and/or have sleep cycles that are off-kilter, or sometimes too much caffeine effects our sleep patterns.

It's part of the fallibility of being a fallen human being. We have all KINDS of Idiosyncrasies and quirks and struggles. Elijah got so depressed that he wanted to die. Did God condemn him? No, He sent a raven to feed him and then told him to go to sleep, because he was physically and spiritually and mentally "spent". God "ministered" to Elijah.

Let's pray for each other and for all our brothers and sisters in Christ who struggle with this. For there are many. We ALL have our struggles and issues.

Saying that some have jobs that force them to stay up late...... does not make this not a sin. Neither are the following solid arguments: "I go to bed early therefore going late is a sin," or " I have to stay up late because of my job, therefore it isn't a sin" or "people do good things late, therefore it isnt a sin"

When searching for truth, one cannot assume that the position they are in is automatically safe. This is the position taken only by those who wish to find fault in others.....not one desiring truth.

poor night owls. lol. i used to be one. but now i go to bed when it's dark. yet sometimes i wake up in wee hours and can't get back to sleep.
