I find it incredibly difficult to pray in tongues for longer than a minute or two honestly. Though I do pray in tongues often throughout the day.

Am I alone in this? Not that I'm asking you to brag about your prayer habit, but are there any who have prayed for several minutes, perhaps even hours in tongues? That'd be cool to know and hear about :)

Thank you Holy Spirit for your gift in us!

Years ago I did it every morning for two hours with a prayer group, but also in Dutch, not only tongues, otherwise you don't know what you pray for. I used to lead it and since I dunno how to pray the Dutch was not so much and then in tongues.
But now, pffffff, some weeks ago I was so dull I put up some worship music and asked the Lord to just fill me, I just couldn't pray and then it started again after half an hour or so and I prayed for almost an hour, with worship music. God gives me something to pray for and then I concentrate on that. Hey I'll try that again. It was so easy when we had a prayer group too to do it also on your own.

If you push in, the Spirit will begin to pour it out of you. I often find at the 40 minute mark that I get a quickening of the Spirit within me. That being said, I have recently pressed in a great deal since I'm not currently working. The last 2 weeks I've averaged 3+ hours a day. I believe it was Monday I prayed in tongues for over 5 hours, and prayed with my mind an additional hour.

I usually go about an hour at a time and then take a bit of a break. Also, I'm multi-tasking. When praying for edification you can do other things like read or listen to the Bible, clean the house, whatever... I've been walking the treadmill, listening to the Bible, and praying in tongues for an hour a day for the last few weeks.

Pressing in this deeply stirs up the power of God, as well. I've been getting a lot of words of knowledge, prophetic dreams and visions, and the power of the Holy Spirit has been pouring out of me a great deal.

I walked into Hardees last night with my wife and as I approached the counter the woman started coughing up a demon. She had to walk away to compose herself and get someone else to take our order.

You should see me on the treadmill. The first 15 minutes everything seems fine. 40-60 minutes in and everyone on my side of the row of treadmills clears out. It's very consistent and astonishing to watch. I would chalk it up to the conviction of the Holy Spirit, praise God.

I would like to clarify, none of this is because I'm special or anything. It's all by His grace. We just need to incline our hearts and step out in faith. The Holy Spirit does the real heavy lifting.

Anyone can, and should, press into their praying in the Spirit like this as I believ ethe 1st century church did so. I believe Paul meant praying in the Spirit when he said to pray without ceasing. I am beginning to see the benefits of such prayer.

I thought sarcasm was the regional accent of all people from the N.E. People from the south just don't get us northerner's humor…
For years I thought being a smart as* was a gift….. who knew?? :D:wave:
interesting...what would be the psych reason behind habitual sarcasm?

I try to pray in the spirit an hour a day. often it goes longer. I I don't get to it every day like I want to, but maybe 4-5 days out of the week i do.

I agree with whats been said, you have to press in. At first, I would pray for ten minutes and it seemed like an hour. Now, the time passes quickly and I look forward to it. The Bible says he who prays in tongues edifies, or charges himself up. Its a wonderful gift of the spirit and it is a great way to build yourself up on your most holy faith!

I never really timed my prayers, but I do know I have often hit a flow in prayer and spent more time in the Spirit than I thought I did.

I think the longest was somewhere around 5 or 6 hours. Not 100% sure

I find it incredibly difficult to pray in tongues for longer than a minute or two honestly.

Sometimes it's like intercession, although I'm no expert on that.

But if you pray in the Spirit until you feel something has happened in the Spirit, a release.

My family and I, when we left the RCC met in a charismatic home fellowship with other believers. They used to operate like that, pray or praise until they sensed something had happened in the Spirit or saw that something had happened.

'Until' is a good length to pray!

:)

Oh goodness, I have no idea what is the longest. I don't use a stop watch or generally think about the time. I would estimate longer than a minute or two, but an hour? Probably not that long.

The point of my question wasn't to see who was timing their prayers and not. It was to see if I was/am the only one who finds it incredibly difficult to pray in tongues for longer than a minute or two at a time.

Once, someone asked Smith Wigglesworth how long he prayed. He said, "Never longer than ten minutes. And never longer than ten minutes without praying." Good advice!

I love this quote. One of my favorite's on prayer. I try to remind myself of this so I don't fall into condemnation over my prayer life when facing the "I have to pray for hours and hours on end" part of religiousity....
