Her attitude and lifestyle were the love life killers, not the fact that she's still a virgin. Men see a woman who put everything else before family; her career, her fame, her wealth, her success. Everything material and fleeting has been more important to her than finding a husband and having children. All the while broadcasting her virginity, for whatever reason. Now she's middle aged and getting desperate, and that's equally unattractive.

Being a virgin at 40 isn't the problem. It's how she's chosen to live her life WHILE being a virgin. Men find virtue appealing on its own, but the whole package needs to be equally appealing, inside and out.

Yep. I am highly suspicious that the men who value virginity were invisible to her, or that she could not be troubled to look where they gather, or develop what they want in a partner.

Okay, I'm curious. She said having sex makes one a better athlete (she specifies female athlete). Anyone know what the thinking is on that?
Yeah, I was gonna post her quote on that & say how ridiculous & flat-out wrong that is. Makes everything else the article says she said comes across as fake. It probably 'boosts testosterone levels', my guess, but you can get that from exercising (something an athlete already is doing).

Also, I think some posters here are too quick to say men are dismissing her or she's dismissing them too easy. She likely is dating men, just hasn't found the right one yet. She's not willing to appease them (or her) & is staying strong. I don't thnk she's coming across as desperate AT ALL. She's coming across as wise & admirable other than that one quote which makes everything else seem like a lie.

How does she know if she hasn't had sex assuming she hasn't had it since she's a virgin?

I'm no expert so that makes sense to me. I mean, my mind goes to the movie Bull Durham where the assumption was if he had sex it would adversely affect his pitching. So, yeah, my sources are not scientific in this matter. Lol

Many have reported the benefits in sports from not doing it. Mike Tyson went 5 years completely abstinent and he says it changed his game in the ring so much and it was during his dominant time.

In regards to the story, I think she has, in fact, been ignoring the guys who would cherish her as she is likely looking for that perfect 10 guy who somehow shares that same virtue in himself (they really don't exist I'd bet)

Being as she is an Olympic-tier athlete in two sports, her own career is a testament against that statement. I also don't know how one would test that scientifically; if any advantage is observed, how can you separate that from just getting better from continuous athletic training?

Let's take her at her word and say the men she has dated all want sex before marriage, and that was the dealbreaker.

That means she has a type of man that she is into, which coincidentally also wants to have sex before marriage. Otherwise, she would have found men in the church who value waiting for marriage themselves, and virginity in partners. She hasn't dated those men, by her own admission. Which means that she has either turned those men down, or never pursued them.

Now, if we don't take her at her word and consider that other dealbreakers exist, then the men in the church who value virginity might have detected them in her life just from getting to know her casually. Maybe she's committed to something that is incompatible with their vision of being a good wife and mother. That's possible. Maybe she's got a personality issue or character flaw that comes out, and they don't ask her because of that. That's also possible.

That's a good point. How would one test for that? There's too many variables. I imagine she heard something to the effect that sex helps and assumed it was true. As mentioned by others, the usual myth is that sex is detrimental to athletic performance. I found a couple links (Psychology Today) that try to address that assumption, but she's an example of the contrary.

To be fair, I don't think we can rightly compare male athletes to female athletes in this particular area. Different parts, different implications. Also, different sports will have different demands.

Yeah, I suppose. I don't know if having sex or not having sex has anything to do with athletic performance whether male or female. It all sounds like presumption to me, but I don't know. She's a top tier athlete. Maybe she knows something. Then there are all the superstitions athletes can engender. Don't do x (eat chicken on Thursdays) or your batting average will suffer. That's baseball but maybe it's similar in other sports.

Looks like I have a lot to look forward too

Why do you say this? There's no way her experience is the norm that can be extended across the board. I'm resisting the temptation to say she has unrealistic expectations for what makes for a good relationship, but it's a possibility. Whatever the case, she has a very specific context to which few could relate.
