In the OT if a man had intercourse with a woman he wasn’t married to he was required to pay a fine, marry her, and never divorce her.
In the NT Paul writes:
I Corinthians 7:8-9
8 To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single as I am. 9 But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.
They key is, if you cannot exercise self-control with a woman you’re partial to, you should consider marriage.
Christians are bound by the law of love. Love God with all our heart, mind, and strength, and … love our neighbor (others). This girlfriend of yours, do you “love” her? I mean, really love her? If you can easily have intercourse with her without any social commitment, you should seek to love her more. As you grow in love, you’ll become closer. Also, you’ll begin to draw lines where they must be drawn out of love and respect for one another. Also, if you truly love her, you’ll begin wanting to marry her. If you can’t grow into true love with this girl, you’re just using her. That’s sin.
Seek to love. Seek to love God more also. If you truly love God, surely you’ll consider God’s admonitions to purity and to be holy as he is holy. Your desire to please Him will increase with time.
In all things, be motivated by love.
That’s what Christian living is about. If you desire to become a Christian, a true Christian, you’ll realize life is about loving God and others with as much as you can. To become a Christian, believe that Jesus was God in flesh, repent of your sin (confess it and try to do better), be baptized in the name of the Lord, and seek the infilling of God’s Spirit. Then love God and others with all of your being in all that you do.
And please, forgive me if I appear a bit judgmental. I'm a sinner too. In fact, we're all sinners. We've all failed God. We've all gotten tangled up in messes that take time to rectify. But we're trying to follow after God's Spirit and show love towards all, especially those we cherish in our lives. You're not the first couple to have premaritial sex. You'll not be the last. But, the question is what will become of your relationship? A beautiful love story of humanity, forgiveness, and grace? Or another tragic story of two people using and abusing one another?
If you choose to become a Christian, walk after the Spirit and seek love. Turn your lives around and make something beautiful out of this situation that testifies to the power of the love and grace only found in Christ.
God bless.
Heavenly Father, I pray that you draw this poster and his girlfriend closer to you. I pray that you fill them with your Spirit and that they might experience the joy and power of being one spirit with you. I pray that you fill their heart with boundless love towards you and others in their lives. Father, I pray that you make something beautiful out of this relationship. That this couple grows in love for you and in love for each other, a love that will bring wholeness and holiness. I pray that should their being together be your will, that you will lead them, guide them, and mold them into the couple you desire them to be, that they might show forth the wonders of your handiwork. I pray that if it be your will, Lord, that you will fashion them into the family you desire them to be, a family with a godly and grace filled legacy. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
