We are told Jesus is our example and Jesus told us He kept all the commandments of His Father, John 15:10 which includes the 4th commandment.
This is what Jesus did on the Sabbath day...
Luke 4:16 So He (Jesus) came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. 17 And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
20 Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” 22 So all bore witness to Him, and marveled at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth.
Going to church and reading God's Word seems like a very good example Jesus left for us. On the New Heaven and New Earth the Sabbath will continue to be God's chosen day of worship Isaiah 66:23
We are also told we are blessed for keeping the Sabbath holy
Isaiah 58:13 “If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath,
From doing your pleasure on My holy day,
And call the Sabbath a delight,
The holy day of the Lord honorable,
And shall honor Him, not doing your own ways,
Nor finding your own pleasure,
Nor speaking your own words,
14 Then you shall delight yourself in the Lord;
And I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth,
And feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father.
The mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
I love Sabbath, its my favorite day. I know growing up it was difficult and I looked at it all the things you couldn't do instead of spending special time with God on the day He blessed, sanctified and made holy.
For the Sabbath keepers- how do you spend your Sabbaths?
