There's an Australian TV series called "Mr. Inbetween", that deals with bullies. The main character, a guy named Ray Shoesmith, is out with his little daughter getting ice cream, when some punks jostle them and she loses her treat. When Ray objects to their behavior, they get ugly with him, and he smiles and backs off. Ray puts his daughter in the car and promises to get her some more ice cream, then goes around the corner, finds the punks, and proceeds to beat the living snot out of them. As a result of this, he ends up in a court-mandated anger management program, in which the following exchange takes place (I have G-rated the language, just so you're aware). If you are a bully - who do you attack?
The meek and mild.
So attacking or criticizing Muslims is a no go.
Bullies are cowards.
THERAPIST: So, why did you attack them, Ray? You like beating people?
RAY: Well, they were being morons.
THERAPIST: You do know the world is filled with morons, don't you, Ray?
RAY: Yeah....and you know why?
THERAPIST: Why?
RAY (grinning): Because people let them get away with it.
It's a simple, universal rule: people who refuse to be victimized usually aren't attacked by thugs. If a bully or a criminal or a foreign dictator knows fully well they're liable to get the daylights beaten out of them if they mess with certain individuals, then they prudently leave those individuals alone. Now, some may say that retaliating when attacked by a bully is wrong, stop and remember that the main reason that cities have police departments and nations have armies is because the human race, unfortunately, is prone to aggression, and that energy must be diverted or contained, for the greater good of everyone.
And that's why Gretch the Wretch will never dare to offend the Muslims. If she did, they'd put a fatwa on her head while burning what's left of Detroit to the ground. But Catholics? Most of us will simply roll over and take it. I don't know if that's right or wrong, but that's the way it is.
