Isn't it true Keystone Pipeline had problems with oil leaks. Wouldn't those oil leaks contaminate the surface? Isn't there enough contamination in the land?

What of the native Indians who live in the areas along the route of the pipeline. Who would want an oil pipeline running close to their place of abode or on their land, risking the possibilities of oil leaks, pipes burst and corrode. Maybe if one was being paid millions - it wouldn't matter to them - not thinking of the future generations.

What are some of the effects on land that has been contaminated with oil?

There will always be those who are for the pipeline - it's not affecting them and no fashion.

Actually the Keystone Pipeline is in operation today. Biden didn’t shut it down as is wrongly claimed here. Biden did stop construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline. About 85% of the shale oil it would have carried would have been shipped to China.

The Keystone XL pipeline might lessen energy shortages in NATO nations. China might be getting oil from Russia as the U.S. does not want any Russian oil.

Doubtful. The pipeline would have carried Canadian shale oil, which is very dirty.

No dirtier than buying a Tesla and plugging into coal generated electricity because there are not enough windmills, solar cells and whole house batteries in West Virginia.

In your earlier post you were talking about Europe using it, which is what I was replying to. Now you are talking about West Virginia. Which is it?

Germany is mining lignite. What do you think that is?

Oh, now you are back to Europe and a different fuel source. Pick a place and a fuel type and we will discuss this. Don’t keep jumping around the globe and changing what you are discussing.

Hi @dqhall

The issue with 'dirty' crude from Canada produced by shale fracking is really in the additional costs of processing. WTI (West Texas Intermediate) crude is considered what is called 'sweet' crude. It is from deep under the earth's dirt where it is held in pockets that hold it as a relatively 'clean' commodity rather than being extracted from shale which leaves a lot of impurities mixed in the crude. The greatest of which are sulphur compounds.

It takes more effort, and thus costs more, to process 'sour' crude into the finished products of gas, diesel, kerosene, etc. I say all of this just to say that the term 'dirty' with crude oil isn't referring to the same environmental damaging effects of 'dirty' coal.

God bless,
Ted
