person. Example...someone reconcils with spouse after an affair and the other person is not around. The marriage even through counseling just can't make it. Then the spouse that had the affair finds and marrys the other person and turns his life around for christ. Is this something that GOd forgives or will they always being living in sin? Also if you can recommend any positive books on this subject it will be appreciated.

Divorce and remarriage is not the unforgivable sin. So yes if one has repented and Christ lives in them they are forgiven not by acts that they do but by Grace through Faith in the only one that came to become sin for us so that we may become the righteousness of Him. When we come to God in repentance and ask forgiveness we are forgiven. He does not hold sin against us. He cleanses us from all unrighteousness.. I don't know of a book other than the scriptures on this subject but I am sure there is some out there..

Hi there,

Just entering this forum and saw this thread...

I think the emphasis has to be on true repentance - I'm sure it doesn't just give licence to anyone to do this sort of thing and then hope that G_d will forgive them. Grace is only ever poured out to cover repented sin and a repentant sinner; it has never been meant to cover a free for all, in any sense.

God can forgive any sin that we commit...Christ covered them all but one.

and in the context that that sin is shown, it can not even be done yet...but by the witnessing elect in the very end days...if they refuse to allow God to speak through them, the cloven tongue. luke21

divorse and adultery are forgivable...say sorry, repent and go on with life...one does not have to leave the new spouse

There is NO sin that is too great for God's forgiveness. The only thing He can not forgive is that in which one refuses to reconciled. You can not have true repentence and remain in sin.

Jesus counciled a five time divorcee who was currently co-habitating with number 6. And of all things . . . He gives her an invitation into the kingdom . . . even makes her an evangelist of sorts. So much for that whole "I've been divorced, can't be in the ministry" thing. I suppose that's one of the things I love about Jesus . . . He just kept inviting the strangest and most unlikely people in -- and they came -- and are still coming.

Bottom line -- God will, can, does, forgive.

Yes it reminds one of the powerful ministry of Dr. Stanley.

Has Charles Stanley remarried?

Where I have a problem reconciling divorce & remarriage is in Paul's teaching that only death separates an original couple in the sight of God.

jesus forgave (obviously) the woman at the well who'd been married 5 times. sure, he said go and sin no more, which I think is also what Paul was advocating. It's not the proper choice. (note he didn't say "go find your first hubby and beg him to take you back, etc.)

Neither did he tell her to continue living with her current "husband". He said that she had no husband...

In Mark 10:11–12, Jesus says only, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another, commits adultery against her; and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery." Likewise, Luke 16:18 says, "Every one who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery."
