I saw a comment about Reiki in another thread. I thought I'd finally share my heart on the matter. If you don't want to read the story, then skip down to the Reiki 101 section. It makes references to the story though. I'm sure my lunch will get eaten up and it'll get chewed up and thrown back in my face in someway, as typically happens, but here goes:

The Story:

My youngest daughter has a "weak eye". It turns in on occasion as she focuses on things near and far, but only for a second then it straightens up. She wears glasses to help strengthen it, but sometimes we have to patch her good eye to force her to use the bad one (that's a horrible experience for a parent mind you). Well, last November my mom-in-law called her friend out in California for some help with my girl's eye. She (the friend) is a Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) and works in holistic medicine, natural remedies, eats only all natural health foods, etc. A couple years ago my wife was really into getting this Doctor's approval before she did or used or ate anything. It was a VERY trying time for me, but God saw me through it. Now my wife trusts much more in God, and actually believes the scriptures she reads, and finds value in my words.

At any rate, there was this new treatment that was supposed to work great, we only had to fly out there and let her treat our girl (who's 3 btw). My wife was happy, I was not. I remembered sometime back that this lady was trained in Reiki, whatever that was. I didn't know why, but my spirit was deeply troubled by this lady, and this treatment. I put my foot down, "No. She's not going." My wife was upset, my in-laws would pay for it. "No, I don't want her going, but thanks for caring that much." So, I started doing a little research into what Reiki was, shared it with my wife - who's jaw dropped - which was enough for me, and she then backed me up and told her parent that we were in no way sending our girl out there.

Then it happened - dad-in-law is retiring 2 months later. All the family and friends are coming down, including this D.O. which my MIL took the liberty of volunteering our home for them to stay in. My wife was furious, but trying to be the trusting, loving, Godly parents we are, we agreed. MIL said, "It'll be good, that way she can treat your daughter in the evenings." WHAT!?!?!? We've been hood-winked!! It's saba-toogie I tell ya! The clock ticks down to the day they arive. My wife got hands on training in Spiritual Warfare that weekend. I got to crucify my flesh on many occasions. We were individually attacked by this Doctor -verbally -but came out with Christ shining from within. the IL's entire family who was down was in shock and awe at this Doctor and what she was doing/saying. I annointed my house, property, bedrooms and everything I could think of and prayed over it constantly while they were there. I rebuked anything that came in with them, as well as any confrontation. I had the opportunity to tell the Doctor, one on one the second morning they stayed, outside by the street, that I was refusing the treatment. She kindly and quietly said, "OK. I don't understand. NOBODY ever refuses treatment. But that's ok." She went in, got her husband up, and got out. Apparently she sobbed and cried the whole way to the in-law's and they left early saying they'd send me a check for letting them stay with us. My wife was glad they were gone - you could feel the heavy spiritual oppression that Doctor was under.

That afternoon my in-laws and their family that was down commended me at how I remained calm and loving while this lady blew up in my face every time we were in the same room. I told them I would write something up explaining why I said no, and why this Doctor was so angry with me. This stuff is called Spiritual Warfare and it's real, and I gained a whole new respect from my wife and her family because of it. This Doctor kept claiming that Reiki is Biblical - see my response below.

Reiki 101

(names removed for anonymity)

Hey everyone! In light of this weekend’s events, I felt it would be only fair to give an explanation to why *my wife* and I chose to not allow *my daughter* to receive treatment for her eye. I am God’s appointed authority in my home, and I make decisions that effect this home, after seeking the advise and help of my God given partner (that’d be *my wife*). However, because of my position, if I am in fact wrong, then I alone will stand before God one day and answer for this. If you feel offended by decision, then allow God to pass the judgment, and be at peace.

In an attempt to shed some light on my own personal feelings towards Reiki, I am going to pull from a couple websites and various web-based resources.

First, let me start by stating that the founder of Reiki is Mikao Usui, a Tendai Buddhist. That understood, I will begin describing why Reiki is not a Christian Biblical practice and actually contradicts the Bible. Again, I’m not trying to prove or judge Buddhists, but to show the scriptural discrepancies in the claim that Reiki is Biblical.

As you read on, please do so with an open mind. Be willing to read it all thoroughly, and to check all scripture references. Also, please do respond. I enjoy discussing what God has done in my life, my family’s life, and in the lives of those around me. I try to remain humbly teachable. If I cannot be taught, I cannot grow.

Pretty much from here out all hyper-links will be active, and will require an internet connection to view. I will make comments in RED and BLUE and various other colors as needed. If you don’t feel like clicking on the scripture links, grab a Bible. There are lots on scripture in here.

This is from a site that is designed to explain to Christians why Reiki is accepted and Biblical. http://www.christianreiki.org/ .

Pulling from the FAQ there let’s start:
Q. How do we know that healing is appropriate for Christians to do?
A. In I Corinthians 14:1 Paul tell us to eagerly desire spiritual gifts. In I Corinthians 12: 28 Paul says that healing is one of the gifts. Paul also says that each of the gifts is best expressed with love. Also, Jesus is quoted in John 14:12 as saying, "I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I go to the Father." We know that Jesus practiced laying on hands type healing, therefore, it is scriptural for Christian to practice healing by laying on hands.
This is true, Paul tells us to eagerly desire Spiritual Gifts (but even moreso to prophesy). However, because healing is a Gift, that does not mean that this gifting is for everyone. We read in 1 Cor 12:11 that the Holy Spirit determines who receives certain gifts. It is true, we may desire to be gifted, but we must recognize that if you read 1 Cor 12:27-31 that Paul is in fact talking about appointed Giftings and Offices for the Church itself. Also, I’d like to point out that Jesus is the Healer ( Isa 53:5 , 1 Peter 2:24 ). So yes, God can use His children to heal people, according to His will. There is no secret formula, and not everyone who desires physical healing is physically healed. God heals in MANY ways, and in His own time.

Q. What is the best way for a Christian to practice Reiki?
A.. Reiki provides a very wonderful way for Christians to make use of God's power. When giving or receiving Reiki attunements or treatments, call on God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit to work directly through you and do the healing for you. This can be done through prayer before Reiki sessions, attunements or classes etc. Christians have also found praying for additional healing power from Archangel Michael, Gabriel and the other angels of God to be very effective. In this way your connection with God's love can become very powerful and act as a source of guidance, healing and love that will always be available to you.
We don’t use God’s power, He uses us to perform His will. What good is praying for additional healing power from angels do? Angels don’t heal. No where in the Bible does it ever say an angel healed someone, or even carried “healing power” to someone. That’s simply not Biblical, as I understand it.

Q.. Why is the Reiki attunement necessary? How does it work?

A. The attunement is a process that turns on your healing energy. During this process God is able to connect you more strongly to his power which strengthens the healing energy coming from your hands. While everyone has some healing ability we know from experience that those who receive a Reiki attunement have noticeably stronger healing energies coming from their hands and are able to help others in a more effective way with their Reiki treatments. As a Christian it is recommended that you say a prayer at the beginning of the attunement process asking that God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit will perform the attunement through the Reiki master. Christians have found this to be a very valuable and uplifting experience that strengthens their connection to God and increases their healing ability

As mentioned above, we can do no such turning on of this ethereal “healing energy”. The power and presence of God is what heals, and as I’ve already shown the Gift of Healing is given to people as the Holy Spirit determines – not us. Also, if you are a Christian, I too recommend that you pray, to rightly divide the truth, and to discern what is and what is not of God, so that in all things and in every breath we may give Glory and Honor to Him.

Q. How do we know that Reiki comes from God? I've heard some people say Reiki comes from Satan. How can I know the truth?

A. Our understanding about Satan comes from the Bible. No where in the Bible do we find an instance where Satan healed someone. Satan tempts people to sin but Satan does not heal people. Furthermore, in Luke 6:44, Jesus says, "Each tree is recognized by its own fruit." Which is to say that if something is beneficial and helps people, and those results are long lasting such as the healing people receive from Reiki, then it must be good and come from God.

An arguable point here. However the Bible says that Satan is the great deceiver, the father of lies – a manipulator. Satan does tempt people (rather his cohorts do – let’s not give him too much credit). I, however, believe it would be no stretch of the imagination for Satan to inflict sickness and disease on someone, use another to remove it, so that God receives no Glory from it, distorting and perverting the truth. Such is the case with witch doctors who poison then “heal” people. All praise the witch doctor!! (various online stories attribute to this as well)

Q. I understand Reiki uses symbols. I've been told that Christians shouldn't be involved with anything that uses symbols.
A. Keep in mind that symbols are part of Christianity. The fish and the cross are Christian symbols. Note also that Catholics make the sign of the cross over their chests for protection and to become empowered with Christ. Symbols are used in Reiki to connect with different kinds of Reiki energy and since Reiki healing energies all come from God, the symbols are a way to connect with God. However, if a person doesn't like the idea of symbols, they are not necessary to use with Reiki as in Reiki I there are no symbols.
Yes! The symbol of the Cross is on every Christian’s heart, for it is because of it we can receive the redemptive work of salvation. Let’s take a small detour and explore Reiki symbols or drawings, what they are used for, and how they work. Lot’s of them are here: http://www.reiki-for-holistic-health.com/reikisymbols.html but I’m going to pull out a couple.

HON SHA ZE SHO NEN

Pronunciation: Hanh-shah-zay-show-nen

Alias: The Distance Symbol
photo%20(1)%20copy%20(8).jpg

Meaning: The God ( The Buddha, the Christ,..) in Me Greets the God in You to Promote Enlightenment and Piece

This is the Distant Healing Symbol and it is used to send Reiki over distance and time (past, present, future), to anyone and anything.

It is also drawn when sending a distant attunement.

My personal favorite:

THE REIKI MASTER SYMBOL

DAI KO MYO

Pronunciation: dye-ko-me-o

Alias: The Master Symbol

photo%20(1)%20copy%20(12).jpg

It is the most powerful symbol in the Reiki group. It can be used only by Reiki Masters.

This symbol is used to heal the soul. Since it deals with the soul and our spiritual self it heals disease and illness from the original source in the aura/energy fields.

It helps to provide enlightenment and piece. It also allows to become more intuitive and psychic.

With practice this symbol brings profound life changes.

This powerful symbol, performed only by a master has the power to… what? HEAL THE SOUL. Wow! And here I thought that the only way a soul could be saved or healed was through the healing and redemptive power of the cross, by the blood of God’s very own Son, Jesus Christ, who is the author and finisher of our faith, the Creator, Prince of Peace, Lord of lords and King of kings. That is amazing that a Reiki Master can do this too. Salvation, is mentioned in the New Testament by the words : Soteria and Sozo. This describes exactly how Jesus provided healing for our souls through His salvation work, which cannot be done by anyone else, Reiki Masters included.

There’s more symbols and drawings, but I’d rather not get too far into it. I’ve mentioned a couple, just to make a point – in Reiki, symbols are used to provide power and to open “spiritual channels” and for healing and protection. In Christianity, Jesus Christ provides power (He is the baptizer of the Holy Spirit – who brings God’s power into our lives Matthew 3:11), our healer, and our protector. The cross symbol is a reminder of what Christ did for us and brings no physical or mental power, but strengthens our spirits in the remembrance of Him.
From here: http://www.reiki.org/FAQ/Questions&Answers.html

Q. I have heard that Reiki can be sent to others at a distance. How does this work?
A Yes, in Reiki II, you are given three Reiki symbols. These symbols are empowered by the Reiki II attunement. One of these symbols is for distant healing. By using a picture of the person you would like to send Reiki to or by writing the person’s name on a piece of paper or simply by thinking of the person and also activating the distant symbol, you can send Reiki to them no matter where they are. They could be hundreds of miles away, but it makes no difference. The Reiki energy will go to them and treat them. You can also send Reiki to crisis situations or world leaders and the Reiki energy will help them too.
Jesus never used any symbols to bestow healing, nor did the Apostles, or anyone else in the Bible for that matter. Healing is done in various ways in the Bible, but never with the practice of symbols and drawings. Symbols in the bible and in religious history are used to denote a people, a time, or an event, never to channel and use spiritual power.

Now let’s shift gears a little. Let’s look at a website created to inform curious people about Reiki. This is found here: http://reiki.org

Pulling from the FAQ :

Reiki energy is a subtle energy. It is different than electricity or chemical energy or other kinds of physical energy. Reiki energy comes from the Higher Power, which exists on a higher dimension than the physical world we are familiar with. When viewed clairvoyantly, Reiki energy appears to come down from above and to enter the top of the practitioners head after which if flows through the body and out the hands. It appears to flow this way because of our perspective. However, the true source of Reiki energy is within ourselves. This does not mean that we use our personal energy when we do Reiki, but that the energy is coming from a transcendental part of ourselves that is connected to an infinite supply of healing energy.

The Bible is clear on where healing power comes from. This statement merely credits it as coming from a transcendental part of ourselves. Any power that can be viewed “clairvoyantly” is not of God. 1 Cor 2:14 explains this. If this power can be viewed psychically then it proves to reason that it is not of God. Clairvoyancy is a psychic ability, which uses the human soul (or mind) to see things. God is a Spiritual being. We are ourselves triune beings consisting of a spirit, soul, and body. (Heb 4:12) If our minds cannot understand the things which are spiritually discerned, then why would we use our minds to see this power? We wouldn’t.

Reiki is a very simple technique to learn and is not dependent on one having any prior experience with healing, meditation or any other kind of training. (and you don’t have to be a Christian) It has be successfully learned by over one million people from all walks of life, both young an old. The reason it is so easy to learn that it is not taught in the usual way something is taught. The ability to do Reiki is simply transferred from the teacher to the student (remember Jesus baptizes us in the Spirit, and the Spirit determines who receives what Gift) through a process called an attunement that takes place during a Reiki class. As soon as one receives an attunement, they have the ability to do Reiki and after that whenever one places their hands on themselves or on another person with the intention of doing Reiki, the healing energy will automatically begin flowing.

This reminds me of Simon:

Acts 8:9-24

9 Now for some time a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great, 10 and all the people, both high and low, gave him their attention and exclaimed, "This man is the divine power known as the Great Power." 11 They followed him because he had amazed them for a long time with his magic. 12 But when they believed Philip as he preached the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. 13 Simon himself believed and was baptized. And he followed Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles he saw.
14 When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. 15 When they arrived, they prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, 16because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them; they had simply been baptized into[a] the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
18 When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money 19and said, "Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit."
20 Peter answered: "May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money! 21 You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God. 22 Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. 23 For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin."
24 Then Simon answered, "Pray to the Lord for me so that nothing you have said may happen to me."
Wow! What a powerful statement! “you thought you could buy the gift of God with money”. Here we see that to be trained and attuned (to be able to share this healing power) it only costs you one weekend and $300 to nearly $900, depending on how far into it you want to go. Another site here states that one Reiki Master requires others to charge $10,000 for the teachings and attunements to become a Reiki Master!!! If the gift of God cannot be purchased with money, and you must purchase this gift, it stands to reason that this “gift” is not of God.

A Reiki treatment usually will cost between $25.00 and $100.00 depending on the area of the country. However, some practitioners offer treatments free of charge or for a donation.

God doesn’t charge people to heal them. Doing so would be to do so with the wrong heart, to which Jesus states: Matt 7:22,23 22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

There are many more discrepancies with Reiki and the Word of God than those I have pointed out. My goal is not to embarrass or offend, but to hopefully share what the Bible tells me about this practice called Reiki. Call it what you will, but don’t call it a gift of God. This is why we didn’t want *my daughter* to be treated this weekend. Regardless if Reiki was used on her, I didn’t want someone who has allowed this type of “art” in their lives to be practicing anything on my family. If it is not of God, it is more of a witchcraft or sorcery than anything. I will not allow any random person to pray over me for this very reason – you cannot know the condition of that person’s soul. Innocent intentions don’t provide Spiritual protection. Ignorance is not an excuse that God accepts. As for me and my family, we will not allow such a thing to penetrate our spirits.

May God’s mercy and grace abound in your lives, and may you allow the Holy Spirit to assist you in rightly dividing the truth in your daily walk with Him. Selah.

Thanks CL! I credit my upbringing. My parents poured everything they could into me and my sisters - and because of that firm foundation I was able to stand strong. They did not keep the things of God from me, but greatly desired us to allow God to use us, and to understand them. All I could think of was my dad saying, "You don't let just anyone lay hands on and pray for you." That ran through my head so many times that weekend she visited. I was able to share this with my parents and thank them for all they've done for their children.

It's terrifying how these anti-Christian philosophies and powers have infiltrated the Church masquerading as gifts of God.
You did a good job with your family, well done, and that's good research that you sent the doctor, presented with respect. God bless you.

Praise God that you were able to see through the deceptiveness of Reiki. I was once a Reiki practitioner. It was the foundation of every more advanced technique I used. Even glancing at the symbols gave me a horrible sense of spiritual violation. There is great darkness in Reiki. Its best to refuse the touch of anyone who practices it.

You did the right thing.

Great op and posts, one of my sisters asked me about yoga last nite, she was a little freaked when I gave her the 'real scoop'. You know, she said in her heart/spirit, she knew it was 'off'.........

Thanks for posting this, great info and resource as well as wisdom.

Hi Leadership, I've seen it all before, and as sad as it is, the power of healing of Reiki is no different to the Kundalini spirit.

In fact many Christians have gone and studied Reiki, and then they put "Christian" onto the label and it makes it all rosy, squeeky clean, and harmless as they believe.

It's same as many such other religion practices that have infiltrated the Body of Christ by making the name an oxymoron by adding "Christian" to it.

As I've many times you can change the name of an orange tree to a lemon tree, but the fruit is still an orange, and will NEVER be a lemon.

This is where the enemy gains a foothold in most churches through the spiritual gullibility through signs and wonders, and manifestations. Prayer soaking has been another entry point of the Kundalini spirit, yoga is another point, and martial arts is another point. There is also Christian Wicca. It's never-ending, all unbiblical and all of the enemy.

Bless you for being very discerning and for your wife to be submitted to the Headship of your family.

I have experience those things, because I went to Reiki myself, many years ago, and the scorpion's bite take a long time to wear away.

Be blessed in Jesus' Name.

This reminds me of a recent documentary I saw on Discov channel (or was it Nat Geo? one of those.)

The docu was about John of God and the healing 'powers' he had and the techniques he used. Hundreds of people (many of them Caucasians) flock to him every year for healing. They stay there for as long as it takes to get totally healed.

The documentary, of course, also focused on the lives of some the people/couples who were there for healing -- what sickness they had and why they had come to John of God.

I couldn't help but feel very sorry for them, not because they had sought a non-biblical/Christian way to be healed, but because their condition had no cure -- medical science could do little or nothing for them.

So I really didn't blame them at all, for going to such a "quack" or "fake" as some of us might call John of God.

At the same time, I was a little angry that the church could not offer something better or more genuine -- well at least not to them. Why are these people going to John of God, Reiki or some other new age technique rather than Jesus the Healer of healers? Maybe it's becos we've not really been preaching a God who heals, at best a God who MAY or MAY NOT heal.

While we the church may be quick to criticise and point such healers out as of the devil, do we have something better to offer such people? If not, maybe we should shut up.

As it is, we argue non-stop on these forums as to whether it is God's will to heal or not.

When will the church come on par with its early glory days, where the sick from all over readily flock to the church to get healed?

I totally agree, but when even thoise of us who believe God wants us well find we're unable to receive our healing or even to find anyone in the body of Christ locally who can help us with that, how can people like us help the world to see Jesus our Healer God? :help:

I will post this here and risk the repurcussions...Some may not agree or think I'm a goof. This is real.

Two years ago I was given a gift certificate for a massage and a Reiki session while on vacation in Virginia Beach. it was at the Edgar Casey Institute...again I was uninformed at the time. At the time I didn't know what it was.
The massage was relaxing and lovely. The Reiki session was calming but strangely "cosmic" feeling. Other wordly, I guess. After it was over the Reiki master wanted me to sit up and she would tell me the things that were wrong with me physically and spiritually. When I sat up I began crying uncontrollably, for no reason. Everything she said, I believed immediately without question. Later that day, while sitting on the beach, my mind began opening up and thoughts that I could not have had on my own began flooding in. I stared out at the ocean and was bombed by the "understanding" of energy, God as energy, the connection of people in their spirits and energy. Tapping into the universal flow of energy. Huge quantum physics thoughts began. Now, I'm NOT anything but a regular ol' woman. I thought God was telling me these things to understand Him. I thought it was God speaking to me. WRONG!

Months later I was craving another Reiki session like a drug addict craved a drug. I looked for a master in my area, was willing to drive 5 hours back to the same place...anything! I desired it so strongly. I admitted all this to a Christian friend and thankfully she knew what was going on and through prayer and fasting and repentance I was released from that need. I was released from that spirit.

Looking back on it, two years later, I see what I was opened up to and what attached to me. And, it was not God.

Friends, warn your friends, family and anyone you can of the extreme danger of this.

Thank you for sharing this Lead. This testimony shows what an impact one who knows the Word can have. You are blessed to have been raised in a faith filled christian home, and a WOF environment.

In fact, what this brings home to me more than anything else is how important it is to know the Word, I mean really know the Word. You didn't need to have read a bunch of books talking about the evils of Reiki, to almost instantly understand that it did not line up with what you knew about the Word.

This is a lesson we all can learn from, and flies in the face of those who want to focus all of our attention on what is wrong with this person and that thing. We shouldn't be focusing on what is wrong with everyone else, we should be focused on learning and applying the Word in our lives. Then when wrong things come along, we will know, we will have our senses excercised to discern both good and evil.

Peace...
