I saw a comment about Reiki in another thread. I thought I'd finally share my heart on the matter. If you don't want to read the story, then skip down to the Reiki 101 section. It makes references to the story though. I'm sure my lunch will get eaten up and it'll get chewed up and thrown back in my face in someway, as typically happens, but here goes:
The Story:
My youngest daughter has a "weak eye". It turns in on occasion as she focuses on things near and far, but only for a second then it straightens up. She wears glasses to help strengthen it, but sometimes we have to patch her good eye to force her to use the bad one (that's a horrible experience for a parent mind you). Well, last November my mom-in-law called her friend out in California for some help with my girl's eye. She (the friend) is a Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) and works in holistic medicine, natural remedies, eats only all natural health foods, etc. A couple years ago my wife was really into getting this Doctor's approval before she did or used or ate anything. It was a VERY trying time for me, but God saw me through it. Now my wife trusts much more in God, and actually believes the scriptures she reads, and finds value in my words.
At any rate, there was this new treatment that was supposed to work great, we only had to fly out there and let her treat our girl (who's 3 btw). My wife was happy, I was not. I remembered sometime back that this lady was trained in Reiki, whatever that was. I didn't know why, but my spirit was deeply troubled by this lady, and this treatment. I put my foot down, "No. She's not going." My wife was upset, my in-laws would pay for it. "No, I don't want her going, but thanks for caring that much." So, I started doing a little research into what Reiki was, shared it with my wife - who's jaw dropped - which was enough for me, and she then backed me up and told her parent that we were in no way sending our girl out there.
Then it happened - dad-in-law is retiring 2 months later. All the family and friends are coming down, including this D.O. which my MIL took the liberty of volunteering our home for them to stay in. My wife was furious, but trying to be the trusting, loving, Godly parents we are, we agreed. MIL said, "It'll be good, that way she can treat your daughter in the evenings." WHAT!?!?!? We've been hood-winked!! It's saba-toogie I tell ya! The clock ticks down to the day they arive. My wife got hands on training in Spiritual Warfare that weekend. I got to crucify my flesh on many occasions. We were individually attacked by this Doctor -verbally -but came out with Christ shining from within. the IL's entire family who was down was in shock and awe at this Doctor and what she was doing/saying. I annointed my house, property, bedrooms and everything I could think of and prayed over it constantly while they were there. I rebuked anything that came in with them, as well as any confrontation. I had the opportunity to tell the Doctor, one on one the second morning they stayed, outside by the street, that I was refusing the treatment. She kindly and quietly said, "OK. I don't understand. NOBODY ever refuses treatment. But that's ok." She went in, got her husband up, and got out. Apparently she sobbed and cried the whole way to the in-law's and they left early saying they'd send me a check for letting them stay with us. My wife was glad they were gone - you could feel the heavy spiritual oppression that Doctor was under.
That afternoon my in-laws and their family that was down commended me at how I remained calm and loving while this lady blew up in my face every time we were in the same room. I told them I would write something up explaining why I said no, and why this Doctor was so angry with me. This stuff is called Spiritual Warfare and it's real, and I gained a whole new respect from my wife and her family because of it. This Doctor kept claiming that Reiki is Biblical - see my response below.
