A Double Homicide and 170 Years in Prison at Age 13

Rondald Sandford was 13 when him and older child were arrested for a double homicide. The older person threw Ronald under the table and got five years. Now Ronald had a know father a non existent mother who at the times was adict. Sending children to life is illegal, 175yrs is life. He has spent over 30 years in prison, rapist, child molesters, and other killers are out in less time than that. Most are allowed to be parrolled after 10 or 20 years. His first parol will be in his 80's or 90's I think. He is black and it was 1989 Indiana I believe. If he had been a middle or upper class white kid he would have probably gotten juvi time and councling. I have know dount his skin color had somthing to do with the sentence. Now it is possible the older person did the killing. It was a horrible crime but a 13 year old is young enough to be rehabilitated and by all account he has changed his life as much possible for a person a prison. I have been contacting Governor Holcomb of Indiana, If anyone thinks this guys has been punished enough I invite you to contact Govenor Holcomb of Indiana

As time has gone on, laws have changed in Indiana. If this happened later, both would be serving the same sentences. Along with the Supreme Court rulings regarding life without parole for minors has made it to where they can now get their sentences reduced. According to information on mycase.in.gov (a website folks can use to find Indiana court case information), it does look like Sanford is in the process of appealing it. He's doing what needs to be done. Now we wait.

I was following along until you started the racist junk. Let me tell you how racist the system is. A certain person I know, has a daughter that works in Memphis, TN. She was working for a company owned by 5 white Jewish brothers. Long story short, a black dude with a gun came into the building and shot them. Cold blooded murder in the first degree. Thankfully the woman survived because she had just walked out the door about a minute before the black guy walked in.

And did that black guy get life? Take a guess.

He did some time, (I forget exactly how long).

He is now free. They let him out of prison. How is that for racial equality? Maybe if the guys he killed were not Jews, he would have got life.

So this isn't a case of systemic racism keeping the black man down. It's just an unfair, corrupt, and stupid justice system that can be manipulated if you have the right money or the right connections.

Dude 1989 inner city indianapolis or any U.S. City. If a black person was accused of rape murder they almost always were found guilty. Since the introduction of DNA evidence hundreds if not thousands who were serving life and on death row and have been exonorated. Nearly every one of them has fallen into two catagories, Poor, Black, or both. And I was not talking about grown adults...I WAS TALKING ABOUT CHILDREN!!! 13 years old is a child, Should he have been punished yes, but the punishment should have been several years in juvinile getting counciling and help into becoming a meaningful memeber of society. It is a proven fact the mind of 13 year old and an adult are different. The 13 year old was was suseptable to being led around by adult or older teen. !3 year olds do not think of concequences. Fact is if he had a father or a mother who did there job he probably would not be in the situation he is. I know people of all color commit violent crimes and in inner city it is normal black on black crimes. I also know befor the introduction of DNA evidence if you live in south and went to court for rape or murder almost every time they were found guilty. Anyone with a little search google can find hundreds of cases like that. What I took from your comment...is a black person did something bad and in your oppinion racism and bigotry is not an issue for blacks...it is, you like many others myself included are so sick of the complaining and whining and acting like a victim when there not, that most people now just do not care when you hear about a legit issue of racism or bigotry.

For all I know, so were his victims.

Maybe that's too light for them. Kids that age can be evil.

Yeah if he was born a sociopath that is not evil that is just a lack emotion as for sociopath who commit murder and such, there very rare. Now in reality we had 13 year child in the ghetto whith know parental care, being led around buy a older teen who was actually the killer and he sold out the kid to get less time. The police just need someone to punish. But again most murders and rapist have parole in the first 10/20 years he has been there for over 30. This was not about Justice...it was about revenge...two very different things. And most children with proper care can rehabilitated.

If I assume all of these are correct, we still have to ask:

Has he actually been rehabilitated?

If he hasn't been, then it would be releasing an unrehabilitated accessory to murder into a world that he doesn't know how to live in.

That's bad for him, and bad for everyone else.

Well lets see by all account's he has been, he got himself eductated he talks with young people before they end in his posistion. Another fact there are alot off people who are willing to help him get his on feet, would he need alot of help yeah. Here is a interview with Trevor McDonald he did a documentary about death row in a maximum security prison and that is were he met mr sandford

The intervie with Mr. Sandford starts at 17:50

I've seen that documentary. It said he recently was found to be beyond rehabilitation.

If he gets out, he's going to need all those people, because helping ex-cons out can be very draining, and bridges are often burned. I've seen that first hand with a former roommate of mine, who tried to help his friend out when he got out of jail but was still on a tether. That friend of his was actually staying elsewhere and was no longer welcome there, and wore out his welcome at our place after couple of months. And he hadn't killed anybody.

They said he was beyond rehabilitation as a 13 year old child. What happend was the 15 year made a deal putting all the blame on the 13 year old. Dude rehabilitation is beyond difficult in this country. I saw a documentary in sweeden and denmark. They treat their inmates like human beings, the give them schooling and counciling, very few people are beyond saving, and they make sure they have a job when they get out. You see their being in prison is the punishment...that does not mean you have to treat them like animals. There system is working so well that there closing prison's down. Here he would have very difficult time getting a job or a place..because in the country your punished after you served your time. Add to the fact he was a child and was sentenced to adult prison at 15 we all know what he probably endured at first. I see someone who feels guilt over the crime, I see someon who has to tried to educate himself. And yeah if he is released he will need alot of help. That does not mean he does not deserve a shot at it.

The documentary said "this year" and it was released in 2018.

I would also be surprised if they didn't put him through a psych-eval after his arrest but before his trial.

All of which doesn't make release sound like a good idea.

We know how he can act for a camera and for a visitor. But can he act civilized continuously, all day? Or only in short bursts?

You know what your right he could be faking he could be faking for the shrinks. So he does not deserve a chance...the fact the 13 year old CHILD!!! Was tried and sentence and adult does not seem to offend you keep in prison it is not like he has no paid his dues, rapist and child molesters get less than he has been in prison, even murderers today normally are eligiable for parole after 20 years

Know what that says to me? That the rapists and the child molesters and the other murderers should get more time.

How many people who had served their sentences after being convicted of a felony do you have personal experience with, out of curiosity?

Uncle, involentary manslaughter he was out on parole in 8 years. He did his time and the system still was punishing after he was released. If was nor for friends and family who had his back he would ended up back in prison...AND AGAIN THE FACT YOU ARE NOT OFFENDED THAT 13 YEAR OLD CHILD WAS CARGED AS ADULT AND SENT TO AN ADULT PRISON AT 15 SAYS MORE THAN ENOUGH ABOUT YOU!!!!
