We should applaud political theater just because a child is involved?
To support the child and put political differences aside? I’m just rambling now. We must work together.

Too much word salad from me, me thinks.

If I could dump ice water over people's heads, I wouldn't talk like this... but unfortunately, this is an internet forum.

I'll take a hit for this kid. Don't care.

The boy has a very large MAGA family, no issues. We don't need the negativity in our lives when there's love and joy and happiness and a little hope for a future for all of our children that's bright.

This is the American dream, and we will live it together with plenty of hugs to go around, especially for our babies, who aren't so babish anymore.

It's been just the opposite of retribution. You don't see Republican state courts going after Democrat leaders. There is no manufacturing or twisting of laws to "get" Democratic Party individuals, nor do you hear rhetoric supporting such tactics.
Tell that to convicted felon Bob Melendez.

Not one Democrat stood and supported this courageous child battling cancer - their hatred for one man is so great - they couldn't help a sick child.

What's sad is using a child who survived cancer as a political prop after cutting funds for cancer research that can save the lives of children.

You can still support the child, without supporting a political agenda.

That's true, but I find it interesting that there is so much outrage directed towards the Democrats for not standing during what was an obvious political stunt by Trump, but none for the Trump administration wanting to cut funding for life-saving cancer research.

Are you familiar with the South San Francisco Biotech Hub? The South San Francisco biotech hub has an economic output of $133.5 billion, which supports over 250,000 jobs. biotechnology is a key part of cancer research and treatment.

...Sooo, why do we need the government involving itself with cancer research, when one city alone is invested so deeply..? Especially considering the Boston/Cambridge area has an even larger biotech hub?

The South San Francisco biotech hub has it's own bus system, for scientists.... They literally live in condo's built just for scientists, and their laboratories have restaurants, and wotlrkout areas as well as sleep areas, so they can literally live at the laboratory if they want to. Or they can take a private bus home in their own little city. It's really amazoling to see... They also own a large chunk of Bayfront property, that is gorgeously maintained.

...What they have going on is much more than the government could ever match or begin to provide. It's really, almost too much!

It's just theater. Good for the kid for beating cancer - that's amazing. But what purpose is there to doing this during a political address other than scoring political points?

It's like pictures of cute kittens thrown in just to make us distracted from the unspeakable nonsense and lies that Trump was spewing the rest of the time.

One (showy) good deed cannot put away a man's sins.

He is publicly honoring the young man and his family. Why does it look like you don't appreciate that?

It's just theater.

Why does he need public honor by the president? Many kids survive cancer due to modern medicine. Many more will die without it. Yet the current GOP gloats over cutting cancer research and Medicaid for precisely the most vulnerable citizens in our society, who through no fault of their own, were born into poor families.

Please tell us how many children's lives were saved by that particular research. You see, there is waste in many programs, and the administration is finding the most efficient use of money. Is it going to top scientists or DEI hires? Throwing money at something does not mean it is a worthwhile venture.

The government has inspectors general to look for fraud, waste and abuse.

My father worked as an inspector general in the US Air Force. People that work for the government work hard and are underpaid compared to what they get in the civilian sector. They do what they do out of a sense of national service, not because the pay is enriching them.

Just providing my personal experience. I've encountered outstanding people in the government, but there is a predominant corrupt establishment. I've spoken with whistleblowers and WAY too often no one is held accountable, particularly at the higher levels.

It's not a perfect system, but the notion that there is widespread fraud, as defined in legal terms (misappropriated monies) in the US government simply isn't credible.

I can say there is a lot of dishonesty and people protecting each other or their organization.

It's called decorum. The very thing democrats complain about Trump not having. The least they could have done was clap for this young man's inspirational story.

If the roles were reversed and it was republicans not clapping for a cancer survivor, would you have a problem with them saying it was because it was political theater?

Throwing out hypothetical scenarios is just a distraction from the perverse absurdity of Trump suppossedly celebrating a cancer survivor despite the fact the GOP's spending bill in Congress cuts research into childhood cancers.
