I should cancel some of my book orders, there's still time to cancel any of these. Help me to decide which ones!

I'm unsure of titles such as:
Catholic Practicum: Learn to Use Logos Bible Software - Logos Bible Software $130.
Justpeace Ethics: A Guide to Restorative Justice and Peacebuilding - Logos Bible Software $11
The Messages of the Books - Logos Bible Software $0 (I don't want worthless books to clutter my library.
Worship in the Early Church: An Anthology of Historical Sources (4 vols.) - Logos Bible Software $100

I'm also a bit unsure about most books, such as:
At Long Last! Ceslas Spicq's “The Epistle to the Hebrews” Will Be Translated | Logos Talk: The Logos Bible Software Blog $40
The Bible Promise Book - Catholic Edition - Vyrso $4½.

See below image for complete list. There's only a week, until April 11. 2013 to cancel the 4 at the top:
1004.profile-and-pre_2D00_pub.png

... ask if You want links to discussions about any of these books!
(My Logos profile: Unix.)

Keep, and read, them all, if you can afford them. You cannot have too much reading material. :) :)

I still want advice on which books to cancel! Today I have to make up my mind about the Bible Promise Book - Catholic Edition. I don't think it has much of a particular denominational spin, it looks like the difference to the regular (protestant) Edition is that the verses quoted are from Roman Catholic or Catholic Edition Bible versions. There's 4 verses from Sirach and 4 from Wis and none from the rest of the Apocrypha.
EDIT: I'm trying to return the Bible Promise Book, today the last day to do that:
I voted for you to cancel the books which seem, to me, to have a denominational spin and, therefore, likely to be the least helpful toward a better understanding of what Orthodox Christianity was and has become.

I suggest, to help you to better decide for yourself which books to cancel, that you consider the background of the author (their religious affiliation, if known) and the publisher ("follow the money").

OK I decided to go to that university city (to where the ticket costs quite much), I'm on my way by train. I have never been there so it's exciting to see the city. I'm arriving 6 pm and staying one night, and then taking a night bus back (if I would have taken train back I would have needed to change train several times in the middle of the night).
I have lived in that (much smaller) city to which the train ticket costs $9½ so that would not have been as much to see as a tourist.

Tomorrow 9 am - 5 pm there's a seminar there to learn to use a Bible study software (I'm buying a used copy of the UBS (Translator's) Handbook New Testament to it for $90, plus New English Translation of the Septuagint). They had the seminar in the small city this past Monday to where it costs $9½ to travel but I missed it (and it was a good thing that I worked instead, I work in an elementary school):
I'm considering visiting a university city this Friday. The ticket would cost quite much. But excluding some authors they seem to have 97 books under the search words "gnostic early christianity" from 1997 or newer. That's only a little less than the closer one has (104) (the one to which the ticket costs $9½ valid two hours):
If the info you seek isn't online, then it's likely available or orderable via public or university libraries.

Sidenote: I'm at the seminar and it and the browsing in the library is going well. However, I have to broaden my search phrase:
I'm considering visiting a university city this Friday.
... EDIT sidenote: I found a couple of interesting books in the library.

Opinions still welcome on which books to cancel! :)

I'll probably be getting rid of many Roman-Catholic books today.

I wanted to give a few books to someone who is living on a disability income and has only $7 left each month. First the customer service said it was possible to transfer books as I thought. Then after I had paid the licence transfer fee they said that the minimum would be that I transfer much more books (a different person took care of the payment, than who takes care of the order). I guess I'll be doing that. Many of these books are very old, that's one problem. The recipient is happy about the books.

I'll be getting rid of the Catechism too. It's not possible for me to buy the Catechism again, they don't sell it outside the U.S. anymore. However the recipient wants it.
You cannot have too much reading material. :) :)
  • As I'm probably giving away the following books from the RC Logos 5 base-package:
A Catholic Commentary on Holy Scripture (even though this one was recommended by the professor in the Old Testament studies class which I'm going to take, although Catholic Study Bible, 2nd ed. and the commentaries I have should replace it).
Co-Workers of the Truth: Meditations for Every Day of the Year, by Ratzinger and Grassl
Jesus of Nazareth: Holy Week; From the Entrance into Jerusalem to the Resurrection, by Ratzinger
The Major Works of Anselm of Canterbury (4 vols.)
The Divine Armory of Holy Scripture, by Vaughan
The Book of Saints, by Benedictine monks of st. Augustine's Abbey
Ecclesiastical Dictionary: Containing, in Concise Form, Information upon Ecclesiastical, Biblical, Archæological, and Historical Subjects
    Catholic Pocket Dictionary and Cyclopedia
A Catholic Dictionary, by Addis and Arnold
Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers Second Series (Catholic Edition) (14 vols.)
The reverse interlinear part of the Revised Standard Version, Catholic Edition New Testament
    [...]

On Friday April 5. I placed a community pricing order, $40 on: The James Orr Collection (21 vols.). Here's information about the author (he is also on Wikipedia): CP: The James Orr Collection (21 vols.) - Logos Bible Software Forums
What do You think about it, would it be worth the $40? Notice that it contains some pages on the Gospel of Peter!:
... I'll probably also be canceling the Orr -collection, since Soulgazer didn't like that I asked him today whether to buy that collection.

Now I canceled the James Orr collection, which would have been $40, Catholic Study Bible, 2nd ed. $29.95 (I no longer have the licence for the NABRE anyway, which it requires, I have the NABRE still on 1-2 computers but can't load future books if I want to keep the NABRE), and The Messages of the Books $0.

I would be glad if someone pops in an encourages me to cancel for example these:
International Critical Commentary Upgrade Collection (6 vols.)
Reverse Interlinear Revised Standard Version New Testament
$49.95 (that's just the Gk data, the English would not go away if canceling)
Justpeace Ethics $10.95
The Works of Aristotle (12 vols.) $40
Then broaden your reading horizon (and your mind :)) by reading/researching not only the works of influential and popular Orthodox Christian writers:
I still want advice on which books to cancel!
Yesterday I placed a pre-pub order, $150, on: International Critical Commentary Upgrade Collection (6 vols.)
...
The volumes typically cost $55 a piece in Logos.
...
I placed a community pricing order, $40 on:

(I have canceled The Epistle to the Hebrews (2 vols.) $39.95 two weeks ago.)

I'm a bit unwilling to cancel Catholic Practicum and Worship in the Early Church: An Anthology of Historical Sources (4 vols.), but if some more people would bother to convince me to give up on them, I'm all ears!

Cancel Worship in the Early Early Church
Cancel Bible Promise Book!
Cancel Messages of the Books!
Cancel Steve Ray collection
Cancel Catholic Practicum DVD!

Steve Ray has some great books unix. I would not cancel them.

I also wouldn't cancel worship of the early church as an understanding of the apostolic fathers is very critical for us to understand the teachings that the apostles passed down to their students who they ordained and made responsible to pass down the teachings to the early church fathers after them.

Cancel Catholic Practicum DVD I would not cancel either as I always wanted a bible with an authoritative interpretation and commentary to go along with it.

The rest I dont know much about Unix so I can't comment on them.
Hope this helps my friend :)
God bless

I have a 1937 RC translation and commentary with introductions of 1 Clem as printed matter, it's really good and I recommend it in the thread: http://www.christianforums.com/t7541241 ... where everyone may post btw!

See my twitter: http://twitter.com/mcyklist I just ordered volume 1 as printed matter for £0.17 + postage ~£4, from the U.S.! I'll be able to see if it's good enough to have in the Bible Study Software also! I do that sometimes - duplicate the resource so that I can read it wherever (for example in the commuter traffic) and make sure it shows up in searches:

Regarding Steve Ray, the most important work in that collection seems to be the Jn commentary. I have 3 commentaries on Jn already, among them a great commentary by Pheme Perkins who has studied both the RCC and Gnosticism.

The ICC upgrade is a bit expensive, despite that it's on a sale and that it's cheaper than buying the volumes individually (btw it can take at worst years before these volumes become available for purchase individually). This is really a rare occasion, as ICC upgrade collections come very rarely, many-many years in between. That doesn't make it less important to cancel it. I just really wonder what's the best thing to do. I would need a couple of the volumes for sure, and as I don't know when Logos breaks up the collection for individual purchase of the volumes, it's hard to estimate whether I have enough time on me to wait for that (and how much time I have is measured in how many years it takes before I have Gk knowledge):

I'm getting some advices at: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/41057/484278.aspx#484278
I'm describing my book purchase situation a little bit in: http://www.christianforums.com/t7740448-post62948372/#post62948372 ... read it, it's succinct!

dumpsterdiver45, You seem to be a bit unaware that this is a fairly common exercise, look at Logos User Forums: Logos Forums. My best friend keeps pointing out that I buy too many books. So that's true, or what's true is that I've already spent much of my savings during little more than a year when the purchasing has been intense, so it's kind of a little late to do much about this now. I admit now that I've sort of become my own librarian. The bigger question is whether there is any really point in the amount of studies the books can be used to, and years in college learning languages just to be able to use the most technical books that I have such as ICC, Hermeneia and Continental Commentaries + the NT and LXX:
So, is this not-so-carefully designed spam? Who in the realm of normally funcationing humans is so indecisive that he has to ask others to help decide which book orders to cancel?

I found this quote: "“DON’T build a library and NOT read the books.” (many business will do stuff – just to do stuff – without ever looking at WHY they are doing it. Yes, having a library full of great books ‘could’ make a difference in a company – but not if there isn’t a commitment and/or plan to read them)"

Occasionally I get to borrow my brother's internet. At other times I use the computers in public libraries to discuss and email. I don't want internet - among my reasons are these: that it would be extremely expensive where I live, and that everyone who has internet or a computer or a smartphone or a TV has to pay a TV-license (which goes to public service TV and radio). I hide my laptops. I have never had a TV in my own home and won't desire one:
then how are you reading these words?:
I've explained already that I don't have internet...

As I've ordered a very cheap copy of the first volume that includes Apostolic Fathers and Origen in Worship in the Early Church: An Anthology of Historical Sources (4 vols.), I've started to think that I'll cancel it.
I'm however more worried about the cost for the ICC Upgrade and whether I'll ever be able to use it.

Here are some more of my reflections, it's in the same thread that I've already linked to: Outdated and expensive.

Opinions welcome regarding whether to cancel the orders, when it comes to all the book orders I haven't already canceled! (And it's too late to return Greek Apocryphal Gospels Fragments and Agrapha, and Falling in Love with Jesus: Studies in the Book of Luke, and
List of Septuagint Words Sharing Common Elements. In the OP I said I had until April 11. 2013 to cancel/return them.)
But I will most probably not cancel New Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible (5 vols.). I recommend that resource and more "bidders" are needed to get it into production! The software is freeware. In case You are interested in a base-package: PM me and I'll give You the name of a direct sales representative!
I will stop bumping this thread now but will read and take into consideration new posts!

Here's more about how I select commentaries: Outdated and expensive - Logos Bible Software Forums ... today6:34 AM (PST):
I would be glad if someone pops in an encourages me to cancel for example these:
International Critical Commentary Upgrade Collection (6 vols.)

EDIT: Here's the new screencapture:
2235.open.orders.may.4.2013.png

EDIT2: I'm probably canceling The Works of Aristotle, Words Remembered, Texts Renewed: Essays in Honour of John F. A. Sawyer, Classic Commentaries and Studies on the Biblical Apocrypha/Deuterocanon (42 vols.), Justpeace Ethics, Worship in the Early Church: An Anthology of Historical Sources (4 vols.) and International Critical Commentary Upgrade Collection (6 vols.).

EDIT3: I cancelled Justpeace Ethics. Another point: here's a post about how much I am willing to pay for books in Logos compared to printed matter: New on PrePub - Doug Moo on Galatians - BECNT. Yet another point: I found out that the Jn 1-4 volume in the International Critical Commentary Upgrade Collection (6 vols.) is cheap as printed matter. But I would still not buy it as printed matter as it's a language resource and therefore works much better in Logos. I'm again leaning towards keeping the 6-volume ICC Upgrade Collection order.
