Glory to God in the highest,
and, peace to his people on earth.

Lord God, heavenly King,
almighty God and Father,
we worship you, we give you thanks,
we praise you for your glory.

Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father,
Lord God, Lamb of God,
you take away the sin of the world:
have mercy on us;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father:
receive our prayer.

For you alone are the Holy One,
you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High,
Jesus Christ,
with the Holy Spirit,
in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

With the above prayer the Liturgy moves from the Penitential forgiveness of sins to the contemplation of the sacred scripture readings of the day. It seems such a fitting way to pray just as one is about to read the scriptures and receive from the Lord the life he has to give in the words read.

What do you do in your liturgy when you are about to read the scriptures?

We sing the Gloria in Excelsis or sing the liturgical hymn This is the Feast ...

R.This is the feast
of victory for our God.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Worthy is Christ,
the Lamb who was slain,
whose blood set us free
to be people of God.

Refrain

Power, riches, wisdom,
and strength,
and honor, blessing,
and glory are his.

Refrain

Sing with all
the people of God,
and join in the hymn
of all creation.

Blessing, honor,
glory, and might
be to God and
the Lamb forever. Amen.

Refrain

For the Lamb
who was slain
has begun his reign.
Alleluia!

This is the feast
of victory for our God.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

As do we, however we follow the ancient practice of omitting the Gloria in Excelsis during the penitential seasons of both Lent and Advent.

We use the Dignus est Agnus only during the season of Easter; such is in line with the rubrics of the old Common Service, which is based on the pre-Trent Mass.

What do you do in your liturgy when you are about to read the scriptures?
We spend about 45 minutes in praise and "high" worship.
Enter His gates with thanksgiving, enter His courts with praise.
Then during the service we often will start singing spontaneously,
as we're overwhelmed with the beauty that is our God.

:)

We do this also. It has been the practice for many centuries.

Ditto for we Anglicans.

Yup, I know:thumbsup:;).

I like the traditional-language versions better for all of these. Seems more appropriate for a prayer of praise. Dumbed-down language works better for parts of the liturgy where we are not speaking to God.

In our tradition, the celebrant chants the first line of the Gloria, and the congregation responds.

I'm with Albion, we have numerous settings that we use; one, Divine Service III in Lutheran Service Book in which we retain the KJ English Translation.

This wording is also available ...
Glory to God in the highest.
And on earth peace to men of good will.
We praise You. We bless You. We adore you. We glorify You.
We give You thanks for Your great glory.
O Lord God, heavenly King, God the Father almighty.
O Lord Jesus Christ, the Only-begotten Son.
O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father: you Who take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
You Who take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer.
You Who sit at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.
For you alone are holy.
You alone are the Lord.
You alone, O Jesus Christ, are most high.
Together with the Holy Spirit in the glory of God the Father.
Amen.
