• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi all,

An idea- if you are looking for work you may want to consider getting into the truck-driving industry! This is a sweet deal in alot of ways! The starting salary for a driver is around $144,000/year and it does not require a college degree, all you have to do is drive! You can be your own boss, see the country, pull over for breakfast, lunch, and dinner whenever you feel like it, and you can do anything you want as long as you deliver your payload on-time! There is a huge shortage of drivers in the country right now so this means if you apply they will probably take you, they will give you a shot. Driving is boring and monotonous but for that kind of money it is worth it!

Apparently there are alot of people with mental illness that have jobs in the trucking industry, it is an easy job and low-stress, you also work alone, I have met several people with SZ that are truck drivers.

My pastor is president of the Association of Christian Truckers, they have a truck stop out in Illinois that ministers to truckers, it is very nice. They have bible studies for truckers that stop in as well as worship services and they also have a buffet for the truckers, snacks, and free showers.

You present the glory of driving ....But there are some pitfalls that one must be cautious of ......Do your research....very important.
Yeah there are pros and cons like anything, apparently loneliness is a huge problem with drivers, some drivers get so lonely on the road they are ready to end it all! You work alone and might be 3000 miles from home!

I drove for many years. There is a lack of an external boss however there are responsibilities. You have to be self reliant and boss yourself.
It is a very good way of life. I recommend it to anyone.
It can be as lonely, boring and stressful as anything else. It just depends on whether a person likes the life.
The companies can be hard to work for. Do research the companies, where and how they operate as there is a huge driver turnover in the industry due to disatisfaction with one company and looking for greener pastures. Some companies suit some drivers, such as dedicated routes, getting home every few days. Then there are over the road jobs that involve living in the truck and literally being on the road 24/7. There are benefits to driving for big company and other benefits for small company driver friendly choices.
It is huge industry and many options exist. Lonely? Try team driving or take your spouse. Lots of options.
And it is Fun!
