As his reign was ending, King David testified to the people how it was God's will to establish David over the house of Judah,
fulfilling the word of Nathan the prophet.
1 Chronicles 28:4 However the Lord God of Israel chose me above all
the house of my father to be king over Israel forever, for He has chosen
Judah to be the ruler. And of the house of Judah, the house of my father,
and among the sons of my father, He was pleased with me to make me
king over all Israel.

Most people know that Israel was divided into two nations, and the northern
kingdom was carried away captive first. I have rarely heard it acknowledged
that the kingdom was divided at the beginning of David's reign, as he ruled
over Judah only for seven years at Hebron.

2 Samuel 2:
4 And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king
over the house of Judah.
11 And the time that David was king in Hebron over the house of
Judah was seven years and six months.

Saul's son Ishbosheth ascended to the throne of Israel for a short-
lived reign as king of Israel.
The reality that this was all by the will of God is acknowledged
in the chronicles.

1 Chronicles 5:
1 Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel—he was indeed
the firstborn, but because he defiled his father’s bed, his birthright
was given to the sons of Joseph, the son of Israel, so that the
genealogy is not listed according to the birthright;
2 yet Judah prevailed over his brothers, and from him came a ruler,
although the birthright was Joseph’s—

When the Lord's throne is established, the house of Israel will be
reconciled to the house of Judah, the house of David.

Jeremiah 3:
17 At that time Jerusalem shall be called The Throne of the Lord,
and all the nations shall be gathered to it, to the name of the Lord,
to Jerusalem. No more shall they follow the dictates of their evil hearts.
18 In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel,
and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that
I have given as an inheritance to your fathers.

A Branch of Righteousness will rise up
for the house of Judah and Israel.

Jeremiah 33:
14 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will perform that good
thing which I have promised unto the house of Israel
and to the house of Judah.
15 In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness
to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness
in the land.
16 In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely:
and this is the name wherewith she shall be called,
The Lord our righteousness.

The house of Judah, and a righteous remnant.
2 Kings 19:
30 And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah
shall yet again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.
31 For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape
out of mount Zion: the zeal of the Lord of hosts shall do this.

The Remnant of the House of Judah
Zephaniah 2:
4 For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon desolate. They shall drive out
Ashdod at noonday, and Ekron shall be uprooted.
5 Woe to the inhabitants of the seacoast, the nation of the Cherethites!
The word of the Lord is against you, O Canaan, land of the Philistines:
I will destroy you; so there shall be no inhabitant.
6 The seacoast shall be pastures, with shelters for shepherds
and folds for flocks.

7 The coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah.
They shall feed their flocks there; in the houses of Ashkelon they shall
lie down in the evening. For the Lord their God will intervene for them,
and return their captives.

The remnant of Judah will inherit Gaza, for the house of David
includes the multitudes of Gentile believers.

Two houses reconciled

Zechariah 10:
6 And I will strengthen the house of Judah, and I will save
the house of Joseph, and I will bring them again to place them;
for I have mercy upon them: and they shall be as though I had
not cast them off: for I am the Lord their God, and will hear them.

The house of Judah, preserved by Christ for the
throne of righteousness to be established in Jerusalem.

Isaiah 37:
31 And the remnant who have escaped in the house of Judah shall
again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.
32 For out of Jerusalem shall go a remnant, and those who escape
from Mount Zion. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

Judah must be saved first.
Zechariah 12:7 The Lord will save the tents of Judah first, so that
the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of
Jerusalem shall not become greater than that of Judah.

And the children of Israel will seek after David as king.
Hosea 3:5 Afterward the children of Israel shall return
and seek the Lord their God and David their king.
They shall fear the Lord and His goodness in the latter days.

1 Samuel 17:12 And David [was a] son of an Ephrathite man; this one [was] from Beth-lehem Judah, and [the] name to him [was] Jesse, and to him [were] eight sons.

'Ephrathiy = patrial form ''Ephraath':--Ephraimite, Ephrathite.

Micah 5:2 And you, Beth-lehem, of the house of Ephratah, are very few being among thousands of Judah; from out of you to Me shall come forth the one being for ruler of Israel; and His goings forth [were] from [the] beginning, from eon of days.ABP

Psalms 132:1-18 Lord, remember David, and all his meekness:[2] how he sware to the Lord, and vowed to the God of Jacob, saying,[3] I will not go into the tabernacle of my house; I will not go up to the couch of my bed;[4] I will not give sleep to mine eyes, nor slumber to mine eyelids, nor rest to my temples,[5] until I find a place for the Lord, a tabernacle for the God of Jacob.[6] Behold, we heard of it in Ephratha; we found it in the fields of the wood.[7] Let us enter into his tabernacles: let us worship at the place where his feet stood.LXX

Ruth and Boaz, raised up a son for Ruth's dead husband... making Obed and Jesse legally the sons of Mahalon, son of Elimelech the Ephrathite. Boaz was next-in-line for an Ephraimite/Ephrathite levirite marriage, and for the redemption of property.

Ruth 1:1-5 And it came to pass when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land: and a man went from Bethleem Juda to sojourn in the land of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.[2] And the man’s name was Elimelech, and his wife’s name Noemin, and the names of his two sons Maalon and Chelaion, Ephrathites of Bethleem of Juda: and they came to the land of Moab, and remained there.LXX

Ruth 2:1-20 And Noemin had [a friend] an acquaintance of her husband, and the man [was] a mighty man of the kindred of Elimelech, and his name [was] Booz.[19] And Ruth told her mother-in-law where she [had] wrought, and said, The name of the man with whom I wrought to-day [is] Booz.[20] And Noemin said to her daughter-in-law, Blessed is he of the Lord, because he has not failed in his mercy with the living and with the dead: and Noemin said to her The man is near akin to us, he is one of our relations.LXX

Ruth 4:9-10 And Booz said to the elders and to all the people, Ye [are] this day witnesses, that I have bought all that was Elimelech’s, and all that belonged to Chelaion and Maalon, of the hand of Noemin.[10] Moreover I have bought for myself for a wife Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Maalon, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance; so the name of the dead shall not be destroyed from among his brethren and from the tribe of his people: ye [are] this day witnesses.LXX

Jeremiah 31:7-9 For thus saith the Lord to Jacob: Rejoice ye, and exult over the head of the nations, make proclamation and praise ye, say: The Lord has delivered His people: the remnant of Israel.[8] Behold, I bring them from the north and will gather them from the end of the earth to the feast of the passover. And the people shall beget a great multitude, and they shall return hither.[9] They went forth with weeping, and I will bring them back with consolation, causing them to lodge by the channels of waters in a straight way, and they shall not err in it: for I am become a father to Israel, and Ephraim is My first-born.LXX

When the Lord's throne is established, the house of Israel will be

This is fulfilled prophecy:

Isaiah 37:31-33 Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning the king of the Assyrians, He shall not enter into this city, nor cast a weapon against it, nor bring a shield against it, nor make a rampart round it.LXX

This is not completely fulfilled, yet:

Isaiah 65:8-16 [8] Thus saith the Lord, As a grape-stone shall be found in the cluster, and they shall say, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for the sake of Him that serves Me, for His sake I will not destroy them all.[9] And I will lead forth the Seed that came of Jacob and of Juda, and they shall inherit My holy mountain: and Mine elect and My servants shall inherit it and shall dwell there ...[11] But ye are they that have left Me, and forget My holy mountain, and prepare a table for the devil and fill up the drink-offering to Fortune.LXX
