Mattel is not controlling your children - at least not with this patent. Before I get into the technical details, I'd like to point out that filing for a patent is the dumbest thing a shadowy group that conspires to control people could do - voluntarily publish their plans. If you wanted to do something like this, would you publish your plans as a matter of public record, or would you keep them secret? I'd keep them secret.

The second thing you should know about patents is that they don't have to be effective or even have to work. A patent is a form of intellectual property that allows the owner of the patent to profit from their invention by licensing it to others.

That first patent is like the Emotiv headset. It doesn't control your mind - you've gotten the mechanism backwards. Your mind is the input to the controller. It's like a terrible mouse that you wear on your forehead that continuously misinterprets your facial movements as double-clicks.

If you're worried about your children being controlled, you should be more concerned about television advertisements than toys.
