GENESIS 21

2 For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.

GOD'S PERFECT TIMING

What a wonderful God we have... Amen

Abraham was already over 100 and Sarah was outside normal child bearing age, but the promise made by God finally came true.

There were many times Abraham thought that this wouldn't happen and indeed Sarah laughed at God, but at the time set by God, the baby arrived.

God is the perfect timekeeper; everything happens to his timetable... not ours. Remember the God had said to Abraham, that he would have a son in his old age, but he didn't tell him how old he would be.

Many of you are waiting on God to bring some promise to come to pass in your lives, remember God is always faithful and always delivers on his promises, despite our unbelief. He abideth faithful; he cannot deny himself...Amen

May you rest and trust on the faithful promises of God.

God Bless You,

Genesis 45:7 and 50:20
Seeing God’s Plan – Looking Beyond the Immediate
Genesis 45:7 – And God sent me before you to preserve a posterity for you in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.
Genesis 50:20 – But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for god, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.
Joseph, the son of Jacob, speaks in the above verses to his brothers. They first wanted to kill him, but decided to sell him. They were jealous of him because he had 2 dreams where his family bowed to him and angry with their father because Joseph was his favourite, Genesis 37:12-30. Joseph ended up in Egypt, hundreds of miles from home, Genesis 37:36 at 17 years old, Genesis 37:2. Joseph was sold to Potiphar, the captain of the guard, Genesis 39:1. Joseph was made overseer of his entire house. He was faithful but Potiphar’s wife lusted after him and demanded he sleep with her, but he refused. She accused him of rape and Joseph was put in jail, Genesis 39. No matter where he was though, “the LORD was with Joseph,” Genesis 39:2, 3, 5, 21, 23.

While in jail, Joseph was given the responsibility to oversee all that occurred there and by God’s leading he interpreted dreams of 2 servants of Pharaoh correctly and asked one to remember him, Genesis 40. 2 years later, Pharaoh had 2 dreams and Joseph was called to interpret them, which he did. He was placed as 2nd in command of the most powerful nation on earth, Genesis 41. An abundance of crops was in the land of Egypt for 7 years, then 7 years of great famine hit, as Joseph said. Nearly 2 years into the famine, Genesis 45:6, Joseph’s father sent 10 of his brothers to Egypt to buy food. They did not recognize him and through a series of events the brothers returned and Joseph told them who he was. During this time, they thought they were suffering because of what they did to their brother over 20 years ago, Genesis 42:21, 44:16, 50:15-18. But Joseph assured them God was at work.

Joseph’s family was dysfunctional, he was hated and sold by his brothers, accused of a crime he didn’t commit, put in jail for over 2 years yet faithful to God. We read nothing of bitterness. I’m sure he cried, was hurt, confused and maybe got angry, but we are not told. We are told Joseph had a perspective many of us, including myself, lack the majority of the time. We don’t see beyond the immediate to God’s plan beyond our circumstances or ourselves. God gave Joseph 2 dreams as a promise He would place him in a position of authority. Joseph held on to that. He trusted God during, and looked beyond the immediate situations in his life to God’s plan. Will we be faithful during those tough times? God was working on Joseph’s character and preparing him through pain to exalt him one day. This didn’t lesson the pain of loss or question of “why,” but it gave him hope to persevere no matter what happened.

By God’s grace, Joseph didn’t hold on to what his brothers did, but forgave them and told them that God was involved in everything. They were accountable for their actions, but Joseph chose by faith to see God’s plan and look beyond the immediate. You may say, “He hasn’t given me 2 dreams.” God gave Joseph His word, and He has given that word to us too. Do we focus on our immediate circumstances or failures? Do we blame our past or others for the problems in our life? Will we look beyond ourselves and beyond the immediate to God’s plan, by faith like Joseph?
