Music of the Spheres, Heavenly Sphere and Earthly Sphere...

Q. What Music does the Salvation Army utilize, that which is Godly and Heavenly, or that which is of the devil and worldly? How is anyone to know the difference?

As a for instance see - [Link]

Q. What do you think, Scripturally? Is the music played building up in Christ, enobling, salvational, spiritual, or is it destructive, tearing down, noisy confusion, and carnal?

I do know that William Booth said that the devil wasn't going to have all the best music, and proceeded to 'appropriate' many popular, secular tunes and added new words to them (eg Champagne Charlie)

The Army has always been very flexible in it's approach to getting across the message of Salvation, which obviously includes music.

Catherine Booth (the founders wife and 'Army Mother') spoke of the great principle of adaptation'.

She said that the menu never changes...we serve up the Gospel. But, she said, we'll serve it up on any dish we like if it gets them to eat it.

So we will utilise (in the UK we don't share the American obsession with the letter z) any kind of music that will get the message across.

Brass band, Songsters, modern music...it's all fair game.

I'll admit we are a bit late to the party with the more modern stuff, and other churches are WAY ahead of us, but we are slowly getting there
