"A Short History of the Catholic Church" is the only Hans Kung book I own. I'm in if we read that one. I own it -- and it's short (Living up to it's billing). Anything else, probably not interested. Too many other books to read and/or try to acquire.

I would suggest "The Church," which does bear an imprimatur and a nihil obstat, but it is a bit dry. "The Council, Reform, and Reunion" which bears an imprimi potest is a much easier read, but, alas! is hard to find.

I'm actually working on "the Church" at the moment. Flying internationally and spending a day in a New Jersey airport gave me plenty of time to digest those godawful German-to-English sentences that are a paragraph long. I considered reading it in German, but.... at least this way, all the verbs aren't stacked up at the end of the page.
