Jan Hus was a Czech theologian, one of the first reformers and a key figure for protestantism.

He no longer put his trust in an indecisive king, a hostile pope or an ineffective council. On 18 October 1412, he appealed to Jesus Christ as the supreme judge. By appealing directly to the highest Christian authority, Christ himself, he bypassed the laws and structures of the medieval Church. For the Bohemian Reformation, this step was as significant as the 95 theses posted in Wittenberg by Martin Luther in 1517.

He was imprisoned and later (6. 7. 1415) burned at stake.

After Hus was executed, the followers of his religious teachings (known as Hussites) refused to elect another Catholic monarch and defeated five consecutive papal crusades between 1420 and 1431 in what became known as the Hussite Wars.

Yes he was a great reformer,a hero to Martin Luther and a great influential preacher.

What should not also be forgotten was that he was urged by King's prince's, bishops etc to go to the council ofconstantine with the promise of a safe conduct.
This was ignored, he was arrested, imprison and told to recant, on his appealing to Jesus as the only just judge.
He was stripped of his priest,y robe/offices and burnt at the stake.
