We are having a discussion about the word DAY in Genesis chapter one at the beginning of the Bible. The first five Hebrew words in the Bible are: "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth" According to the law of first mention all of the Bible is an explaination of the word Beginning because we are told: God declares the end from the beginning. The beginning of Creation was far less than a trillionth of a second. So let us just say everything began in a moment. What began: "Heaven and Earth". We currently believe that Heaven or the universe is 13.8 trillion years old. The earth is said to be 4.5 billion years old. If you use these numbers the first day was 9.3 billion years.

Then we are told God divided night and day, light and darkness. We are also told that God is light and there is no darkness in Him. I wonder about black holes and event horizons but that is another story. Here we see God said, God saw, God divided and God called.

What does said, saw, divided and called have to do with the first day? I think we need to examine this if we are going to decide if a day is 24 hours or 8 or 9 billion years.

3And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

  • The creation account in Genesis describes six distinct creative periods, each marked by God’s spoken word bringing forth specific elements (light, sky, land, plants, animals, and humans).
  • The Hebrew word used for “day” in Genesis is “yom” (יוֹם), which can have multiple meanings. It can refer to a 24-hour day, an indefinite period, or a specific era.
  • Many scholars and theologians interpret the “days” in Genesis as symbolic or metaphorical, representing epochs or stages of creation rather than literal 24-hour days.

9.3 billion years ago, the universe was in a state of rapid expansion. During this period, a remarkable event called cosmic inflation occurred. In a fraction of a second (about a billionth of a trillionth of a trillionth of a second), the universe expanded by a factor of 10^26, which is comparable to a single bacterium expanding to the size of the Milky Way. This inflation projected infinitesimal quantum fluctuations in the young universe into cosmic scales, leading to variations in matter distribution across different regions of space1. This process laid the groundwork for the formation of galaxies, stars, and other cosmic structures that we observe today.

We are told the universe began in an astonishingly brief moment.

Bro, check out this cool data about our universe about what happened 9.3 billion years ago: 9.3 billion years ago - Wolfram|Alpha

Our universe was only 5.77 billion light years across (you will have to click more, to see the diameter data)

The first day was 8 billion years,
second day was 4 billion years,
third day was 2 billion years,
fourth day was 1 billion,
fifth day was 500 million and he
sixth day was 150 million.

Day one light
Day two sky
Day three land
Day four plants
Day five animals
Day six humans
