Kathie Lee Gifford, with the help of Matt Lauer, put the musical which she has “been writing for going on 13 years” in the national spotlight when she announced on the Today show that “Scandalous” will hit Broadway this fall.

The musical, which is about the life of Aimee Semple McPherson, an early 20th century evangelist, debuted at the Virginia Signature Theater in 2007, and more recently ran in Seattle under the title “Saving Aimee” last year to mixed reviews.

Carolee Carmello stars as Aimee, two time Tony Award nominee, and the show is directed by David Armstrong. The music is by Giffords, David Pomeranz and David Friedman. Preview performances will begin October 13 at the Neil Simon Theater, and opening night will be November 15, Giffords said on Today.

The New York Times reports that the producers of “Scandalous” would not discuss the capitalization amount, though the paper said it is believed to be in the high seven figures, and it is unknown as to whether Gifford’s put in any of her own money.
