Normally, doctors won't just give you the fertility pills just because you ask for them. You first have to try for a year (sometimes longer) and see what happens. If you are unsuccessful after one year, your gynocologist will probably send you to a fertility specialist. Then, after an assessment of your health and your spouse's health he/she will determine what the next step should be. I am going through this myself. I visited a recommended fertility clinic in March and I will most likely be taking fertility drugs in a few months, but first I must lose some weight and also get my PCOS under control. I will also have to take some very invasive tests (as will my husband, poor guy). It's quite a process. The doctors must first take into consideration the health of your spouse and yourself.

So, to answer your poll, yes I believe in fertility drugs as I will be taking them in the next few months.

My OB prescribed clomid as soon as I was diagnosed with PCOS. That was 10 years ago. If they can pinpoint a probem right away such as PCOS or endo, or other possible problems, you can bypass all the intensive testing. But there has to be a reason before they will prescribe them.

We'd been TTC for 11 months. If we hadn't gotten pregnant we we're going to start clomid. My underlying problem is Ovarian cysts. My GYN was going to give me a script for it. Feritilty clinics I we're told for those who have more serious problems or those who've been trying for more than 2 years.

According to my doctors regarding other health matters I should try to be done with having kids by 25, 27 at the latest so we may use clomid right away with #2, to lower the changes of once again trying for almost a year.

Over here you usually have to be trying for two years before they look into it. Having said that i guess that if there is a specific problem then they may deal with it straight away.

My sister had a baby and then couldn't get pregnent again - she went to the doctors and they told her to go away until they'd been trying for 2 years as they wouldn't do anything. She ended up going to see a homeopath and was given some tablets to take which helped her.

Someone who has studied and is a Dr of Homeopathic medicine.

which is basically natural medicen. Some of it i don't agree with but i don't think it hurts to go see one. I'd rather have a natural way of dealing with intertility before trying with regular medicen

I have been ttc for 4 yrs now, i was dx PCOS 3 yrs ago after trying for 1 year my gyn referred me to an RE. I also have a thyroid problem (hypo) and pretty much have no metabolism. I was on met for 18 months but I have liver and kidney problmes as well as lactic acidosis. I did 5 cycles of clomid which not only didnt work but made me evil:mad: for 10 months. I did 3 cycles of follistim (injectables) and had more success with ovulating and less symptoms, but all bfn. I have taken 1 year off from the meds to get health back from the side effects of the meds (I am very sensitive to meds, kinda like a freak sensitive). I am going to do 1 cycle of IVF and then move on to foster adoption if it doesnt work. I am taking natural remedies to deal with health issues and increase fertility, so far metabolism is still slugish. :sigh:

I am on thyroid meds, started on syntriod 88 and had problems with it and went to levothyroxine also had problems with it and now on levoxil and so far not really having problems and it was upped 6 weeks ago to 100 and my levels were 3.6 before the up, I have not had them checked again yet dr wants to give it a few more weeks before testing again. Between the thyroid and the insulin resistance i put on alot of weight and the weight and insulin problemsand Im sure a small amount of the thyroid are why no metabolism. I cant take the insulin meds so I have to deal with it naturally, controled diet and cinnamon help. I also think alergies have slowed me down too to not have as much energy. I am trying to make sure I get plenty of quality sleep and eat right. I just need enough energy to exercixe so the metabolism can get a bit better but dont even have that yet.

I have never taken any fertility drugs, right now we are just waiting for hubby and I to lose weight. After we get the weight off, or a significant amount of the weight off, we will then move on to seeing what my GYN recomends. I know she will first have hubby tested, an probably some more blood work done on me.

Most Drs recomend waiting 1 year, if you are having normal cycles, etc. They jump it down to 6 months, if you are over 35, or have had a history of infertility, or other problems (such as PCOS, etc).

We are over the 1 yr mark, but I need to lose about 90 lbs to get down to my goal weight, and I know any dr would want me to lose 50 or so before really trying anything, so I'm working on that before going to my Dr.

I don't see any problem with fertility treatments. I haven't done any of that yet, but if I find out that I need to, I will. I would just much rather conceive on my own without having to take any medication. I've been trying for almost two years, so I suppose if I wanted to start medication, they would probably not see a problem with it.
